Ok, I’ll share the story. My friends and I were sitting in the library/computer lab at one of the high schools I attended typing up a research paper for my freshman English class. Now this was before I had a computer of my own so my typing skills were pretty awful. One of my friends was furiously typing away while I was in my hunt and peck mode. One of my friends made a crack about me being slow and I retorted back that we couldn’t all be speedy typers like my friend. Said friend then responded that there was one place I was speedy, the bathroom. They both laughed at that for several minutes and at lunch they proceeded to tell our entire group of friends, so from that day on I was Speedy.
With that kinda origin, the nickname coulda been much, much worse.
Speedy’s a fine name.
And that’s how real callsigns get assigned.
That video was hilarious and it had a younger Janeane Garofalo (whom I adore), but I don’t know where my grandfather got the term house apes. They could be similar for all I know. I think it probably had to with us kids spending a lot of time in the house while we were there for visits, probably because they always had a satellite dish when I was younger and had way more stations than we did at home.
Very true but all of my friends were rather tame since we were all band geeks. I think I was the only one of the group in an extracurricular that kept me from being completely labeled as a band geek by the entire school. Playing basketball was the only thing that enabled me to be friends with the cool kids as well as all my band geek friends. The craziest thing we ever did was see how many lifesavers they could get to stick to my face. Nothing is more uncomfortable than having your friends lick a bunch of lifesavers and then stick them to your face.
I will admit that I like that one far better than the nickname my best friend from childhood gave me. She just decided to shorten my name and call me Leash. Nothing cool about being called that, always felt like I should have a dog attached to me when she called me that.
I think a dogtag will be my gift to myself when I hit 100 posts. I’m fielding all offers and suggestions wrt what it should be - by 100 posts, maybe people will actually know who I am! \o/

You’re right. I need to get to know you more.
Chi-buck
Chi-chick

You make me feel greedy (not in a bad way though). I wanted a dogtag almost straight away and now I feel that maybe I should have waited until I had become more integrated or maybe discussed it some more.
P.S. My callsign basically means I am English.
Sadly, almost nobody in America says “Cool beans” any more… though they should.
Nobody in England really does either…apart from me. I didn’t even know it was a once popular phrase when I started to use it. For people who know me, it’s now almost become a catchphrase and in speech it comes out almost instinctively (doesn’t really happen when I type though, I have to force it and I don’t want to do that).
Does anyone want to suggest a callsign for me?
Here are a few suggestions:
M.C.heala
Herald
Usher
Since it is bad luck to begin a GWC Podcast without Michaela’s intro.
How about Sean’s Muse ? Ya know, 'cuz he loves your voice (as do we all).
Here’s my suggestion:
DISCOBALL
Wouldn’t that look awesome on a dog tag?
“Intro”
890
“Intro” is awesome. Unique in many regards. Is Cackleberry Macayla (sp?)?
Oh, she’s the Australian girl? Well, it shouldn’t be too hard to come up with some stereotypical down under dog tag, should it?
