Voyager discussion

yeah, i remembered it’s spelt dabo after i sent… but i always thought of it as double tho :stuck_out_tongue:

Nemesis is indeed the Chakotay episode (the one where he’s indoctrinated in an alien military camp), very good.

Definitely one of the best holodeck episodes - for the first 5 minutes I was like, huh that’s not Chakotay!

it’s so great to see someone enjoying Voyager. it’s what got me watching Star Trek again. Because when B5 was on, I kind of refused to watch the new Treks… so I have a special feeling about it.

it definitely had its moments, especially the seasons you are on right now. it’s a fun ride.

Every time I watch Worst Case Scenario, I kept thinking they killed off Seska too soon, and paired her up with the first bad guys was too rushed. She is such a great villain, that even after she died she is giving the crew a good *sorrybarb kicking…

Having got a bit further into the season, I am really liking Seven’s character. I am also less distracted by her physical endowments - but that’s because the camera work has changed. In her first few episodes, there were a number of low angle shots, which emphasized her bust. However in the episodes I’m on (just watched Year of Hell, part 1… hello Red Foreman! foot in sorrybarb! :D), the camera work is much more careful about framing her, so her bust isn’t so obviously front and center. Now this could change in later episodes, but it’s better now. Besides which she’s getting much more character development, which is always good

Obviously, I don’t mind looking at Seven. But all that aside, I agree with you. Seven is very interesting character—and, moments with Seven and Janeway are always interesting. There’s also a very touching–even heartbreaking episode where the Doctor teaches Seven to sing.
I love the contrast of Seven being such a strong, staggeringly smart and fearless women, but at the same time so lost and vulnerable when it comes to her attempts to gain back her lost humanity.

haha, yeah, i loved those two episodes. Especially after loving That 70s Show, that episode takes on a whole new meaning :stuck_out_tongue:

I recently watched the mid-season 5 episode “Dark Frontier,” which I have found myself thinking of as “the Voyager movie.” An excellent piece of work, I guess this is when the Borg queen was introduced?

Seven is a fabulous character! Season four was great, but I’m really digging what I’ve seen in season five so far (up through Dark Frontier). It’s a bit odd because I feel like most of the other characters have kind of been shunted to the side (in that there aren’t many stories focusing on, say, B’Elanna or Chakotay) but I think it works.

I like Janeway’s hair sooooo much better now. Ex-nay on the oll-ray!

Onward as ever, boldly viewing…

No. The Borg Queen was introduced in Star Trek: First Contact making robot-eyes at Data.

I always thot Seven and Jeri Ryan (the actress playing her) were great. People would joke that I was just blinded by her attributes and at times I had to question myself. But she really brings so much to the story. As you stated, many characters suffered from her introduction. Yet IMO, Voyager was the worst series for character development in the Trek universe.

Go Cas! Go Cas!

Actually just started watching the series from square one again. I actually thought it was pretty underrated.

Ah I wasn’t sure about the chronology… but looking at IMDB I see the dates

so… first borg queen on TV?

Yes. There were two different actresses to play the Borg Queen. Alice Krige was amazing, she played the Borg Queen in the movie and series finale of Voyager. Susanna Thompson played the Borg Queen in Dark Frontier and Unimatrix Zero.

no no no no no… first Borg Queen was first contact - that was nov of 1996.

Voyager encountered 7of 9 in the season finale may 1997

I thought Susanna Thompson did great playing the borg queen as well. I can’t even imagine the suffering of being in the Borg Queen makeup and costume. Being in those and do it on a TV schedule must have been hell. But she pulls it off.

since Casilda is in mid Season 5, how do you feel about “Timeless”?

I’ve now seen through “Think Tank.”

I squeed when LeVar Burton’s name came up in the credits.

I thought it was interesting, but it wasn’t like wow the best episode ever or anything. It did a nice job of furthering Harry’s characterization, and the situation itself was neat. But I didn’t find is particularly memorable.

I read now that it is a fan favorite?

I don’t know. It was an “event” show, 100th episode. Got hyped-up and delivered. At the time, I remember everyone liking gritty Harry Kim. Voyager’s characterization is a tragedy and I think the fanbase was happy to see some kinda change.

Voyager gets slagged off but it’s a fun show. I can watch it with my kids.

To be honest when I first saw the episode it left me very MEH. But I think that was cuz of being disappointed with the direction and production of Star Trek at the time. Since then I have re-visited the series. I can now enjoy it for what it is/was. Back then I think I put too much on the show to be what I wanted.

yeah, in the countless “reset button episodes” of Voyager, that one is probably the only one done right.

there are a lot to love in Season 5 tho… “In the Flesh”, “Nothing Human”, “Latent Image” (probably not a lot of people liked these two, but i like philosophical stories), “Course: Oblivion” are all my favorites of Voyager.

hmm did you enjoy “Living Witness” from season 4? I thought that was a blast.

I loved “Course: Oblivion,” it had me all teary.

I liked the issues “Living Witness” brought up (interestingly very close to some of my dissertation work), but I don’t get the mechanics of how the Doctor was able to be there - especially because he’s still on Voyager? It didn’t make sense. Kind of like the way that the episode where Seven recuperates memories of a supposed physical assault that are “proven” to be wrong doesn’t convince me (as may be indicated by the quotation marks, I’m dissatisfied with the evidence presented to clear the guy’s name that everyone takes to be true. Innocent until proven guilty and all, but it didn’t flow well and given the physical violation of a person bit, um, well, yeah I didn’t like that bit. at all.).

It was a backup copy of the Doctor. It was mentioned in the episode, very quickly though.

‘Retrospect’. Wasn’t that a creepy episode? I sided with Seven on that. Glad Kovin bought it. Creep.

which in itself could be debated by fans, because Kim mentioned they can’t backup the doctor, so if the EMH corrupts they will have no doctor.

But it could be they eventually figured out a way to have a backup. Especially after Future’s End, with the inspiration of the mobile emitter.

Voyager was badly damaged during the Kyrians ambush and somehow lost the backup module to the Kyrians.

I just finished up season 5 this weekend… season 4 was great, but I think that season 5 has been the strongest so far. still boldly going
