wait till they get going!
¡Espera hasta que comienzen!
Is it just me, or did this week’s episode of V, the last till March, kinda suck? Were they trying too hard to be like BSG, only, well, failing miserably? This show, for me, has gone from pretty cool, to “huh” to “you’ve got to be kidding me” in just four weeks. I’m not hopeful for its future.
Loving the fact that this show has nothing whatsoever to do with BSG in any way. And I loved this week’s ep. It’s such a great update of the original! So many storylines feel much more natural in this version.
Really looking forward to the show’s return in March.
I see a lot of complaints about how the threat of V currently feels forced. I guess it is true that it hasn’t generated the kind of urgency like BSG’s 33, but then again, 33 is urgent because their world got wiped out and they are on the run.
Right now the main characters are the only one that sees the threat of Vs. And their inability to do much with that knowledge and knowing that something really bad for the human race is on its way is the urgency. They need to find a way to turn the tide around.
But I think they need to find out what the plan is soon. The main characters can’t do trial and error in front of the TV audience. They need a plan to bring down the V, even if that plan fails at the end of this season, it’s fine. But if they keep doing small scale stuff without knowing what the goal is, it will kill the show, think Heroes, SGU.
I am still fine with the show. Though the pace doesn’t quiet flow at intense situations yet. If they work that out. Give the audience a sense that the main characters are going somewhere, then it will be fine.
Just you. I keed. I keed.
I liked it. And with all the other shows I like dropping like flies (Virtuality, Defying Gravity, Dollhouse), I’m hoping this succeeds. I can understand what you’re saying, though. I was hoping for something more from the mini-series but I was pleased with the direction they’re headed.
To be honest, we don’t know if the V are a threat. Sure there is all the omnious music and undertones but it’s still unclear. Yeah, I know there is an armada of ships heading our way, they’ve done experiments on us, and have been around spying on us for a while…ahem yeah it’s not gonna be good for humanity. But what I’m trying to say is we just have this Fifth column people telling us there is a threat. What the frak is the Fifth column and who is John May?
I was waiting for a huge reveal at the end, instead we got nekkid Anna doing the Borg Queen thing. We are all connected. We are all ONE. We are of Peace. Not what I was expecting but it was still a great scene.
Also, I caught something interesting. I was wondering why Tyler was so important. At first I thot it was cuz his mom was FBI and the V’s were trying to use that. Nope. Lisa is after Tyler for something else. IYKWIM. Anna approves. He is part of their plan and what could that be? They want a hybrid baby. Then I thot, there are all these sleeper agents. Surely, some of them have copulated. Finally we are shown that Ryan and Valerie are pregnant as well!
So, what am I getting at? The old series was about using humans for food. What if this new series is about assimilation? To what end? I have figured that out yet. Maybe there is an interstellar war going on and they need soldiers and resources. I don’t know. I just thot the whole pregnancy and Tyler being the one thing were interesting.
Knowing that there are only a few episodes, I’ve been trying to pace myself. I’ve watched episodes 1+2 and intend to watch episodes 3+4 by the week-end. And then we have to wait until March?
I’m enjoying it so far.
I like it. Got just enough suspense to keep you interested and enough character development to make you cuious.
And Anna…naked…I felt bliss myself.
After that scene, I am sure the Fifth Column must be firefly haters.
I don’t know, Chuck. This week’s episode felt like the writers of “V” were trying really hard to write an episode of BSG…and failing miserably. Even the score sounded like a second rate immitation of Bear’s!
But, but, but…if the v’s
have such a massive fleet, why go through the years of sowing seeds of discontent through sleeper agents and what not, then show up with just 29 ships pretending to be all lovey-dubby only to spring the trap at some undetermined time in the future? Why not, you know, show up with your entire armada and destroy all humans?
It’s unearned tension, which is the mark of a lazy writer. I was sorely disappointed after a very promising start to this series.
She shows more skin in the Firefly pilot (and she had better lines in that, too)!
I’m not trying to be a hater, I really am not. I thought the first two episodes started out very strong and the last two just sucked the life out of the series for me. I’ll rejoin the plot in March, just to see if they can breathe new life into the proceedings, but I’m not thrilled with where this is going. (Has everyone got that yet?)
i agree. and i don’t think what the V wants in the old show will work for the new show. i hope they have figure at least what the V wants.
agreed!!
But thats just no fun. blowin shit up is only cool for a certian amount of time, it must get old after a while
I’m not familiar with the old series, but I was under the impression that there was something the V need from humans that they can’t get by simply exterminating them or threatening them to hand over. Also, I get the feeling that fleet is not in concert with Anna.
I’ve not been overly impressed so far, but it’s not bad. I’m willing to give it more of a chance. Unlike Flashforward, which I’m nearly ready to quit. On the other hand, I gave up on Fringe early on and right now it’s one of my favorite shows. Then again, I stuck with Heroes into the second season and realized I’d wasted a lot of my time. Then again…
Then you’d better make sure that the 29 ships are ALL they have; or that there’s some twist like the v’s DO turn out to be peaceful after all (though at this point that would require some SERIOUS ret-conning) or something, cause, really, with how superior their technology is supposed to be ONE ship would be enough for them to say “surrender or we deep fry you into obivion, which we’ll do anyway. So let’s do this the easy way or the hard way” let alone 29 (let alone the myriad ships they showed at the end of last week).
It’s not about “blowing shit up,” Boxy, it’s about suspension of disbelief and obeying the rules of the world the writers have created.
now if the Vs are vampires it’d be a lot easier. they want to turn earth in to a pub, and let the party begin. if they just bombed us in to oblivion, then they can’t get their delicious cocktails…
or what if in order for Anna to maintain control and force the Vs to stay connected, she needs something from the humans, say blood that would also explain why they decided to turn it into industrial scale.
I still have my fingers crossed that this show will be a keeper.
You heard that too?! Yes, there was a part where there was a slow melody from a bell/marimba/xylophone kinda thing, that was used in BSG. I even wondered if they were using the actual track itself, but I think the tune was different. I won’t say Bear McCreary invented that sound on BSG, but it’s the only show I associate it with.
I’m a scifi junkie, so I’ll continue watching if this large break doesn’t kill interest for me (and millions of others).
One technical bone I have to pick is why do the V’s not have frakkin’ video cameras anywhere but in their suits?? That’s absurd and its asking us to suspend too much belief.
