Don’t mean to turn this thread into a Lost discussion but if you seriously believe they all died in episode 1 you definitely misunderstood what Christian said in the finale.
Seconded. I didn’t want to be ‘that guy’ and post about this earlier, but I’m w/ Starbuckbuckbuckbuck on this one. They didn’t die in the first ep, they all died eventually. Hurley even makes a mention about how he had years and years of adventures w/ Ben after the show was over.
Some of the people there died during the series, some died 50 years later.
I’m still pretty happy with Terra Nova. I feel like they’ve created a good sense of mystery around the Sixers and what their agenda might me.
My only concern is what happens when the dinosaurs die. Isn’t the main theory that a comet came I messed up the atmosphere? How will humans survive the extinction of the dinosaurs? Unless the portal really does go two ways…
From what I understand, they have 20 mil years before the comet/asteroid hits. The common theory for the impact event is 65 million years and they went back 85 million. Of course that’s just from the pilot since I keep forgetting to watch new episodes.
I enjoyed this past episode. Almost no dinosaurs at all, the episode focused on the Terra Nova and Sixers relationship. If it makes it to a second season I hope they get a bump in the budget so they can do a bit more with the dinosaurs. I suspect that the effects budget is what limits their inclusion the most. I’m hoping at some point someone jumps onto a dinosaur and we get some awesome Dino-Riders action. Even with the dinos’ taking a backseat, I really like the Mad Max feel of the Sixers and their battle with Terra Nova.
I like that- Mad Max feel- that is a perfect description. What I’m enjoying now is that I don’t quite know who’s right- Taylor or the Sixers- perhaps they both are, but I will enjoy finding out.
Honestly don’t care if Taylor is a “Bad guy” cause Stephen Lang is a badass
Yes, it’s quite obvious that Taylor is trying to hide the writings at the waterfall, whether it’s for nefarious reasons, or he’s trying to protect Terra Nova is the question. I’ve watched enough TV to guess that he’s trying to do the right thing, at least in his eyes, but in the exact wrong way. His goal is to protect his people from whatever information the writing has, possibly to prevent mass panic, or he fears knowing whatever there is to know will cause a massive defection to the Sixers. I do agree that whichever “side” the Taylor character ends up on, it will be a pretty fun to watch unravel.
My big question at this point is what happened with the sixth pilgrimage? Why did they defect? My bet right now is that the sixth pilgrimage was planted right from the beginning. This would explain why there’s still a communication link between the Sixers and future, one that can be used to smuggle equipment or even people. It’d have to be a well developed network working on the other side to be able to move people into Terra Nova through the gate.
Im willing to bet the writing is his son’s and that it says that the world is the same timeline. That or it’s a way to go back(TO THE FUTURE!)
And they have Nerf guns!
Two of the other guns are nerf guns as well http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Talk:Terra_Nova_(TV_Series)

My cousin actually has both of the ones Default Prophet posted.
I guess I’m going to Toys 'R Us tomorrow. I want to be prepared for when the cloned dinosaurs break free and I have to stop them.
I figured the same thing. I suspect that the season finale will start in the future showing someone discovering the site of Terra Nova on the ocean floor or something.
I’m liking the show more and more with each passing episode. At first I was hoping the dinosaurs would eat a few of the characters but now I’m warming to them a bit more and the plot is starting to drag me in.
I like what’s going on in this show. I enjoyed this week’s ep, I thought there was some good plot and character developments. The one thing that really bugs me is that there’s almost no dinosaur action. The first ep was great for the dinosaurs, there was big predators chasing cars, and a couple people got eviscerated by them. This episode all we got was a “prehistoric turkey” running around in the grass.
I’m still going to stick by it. I’ll use Deep Space 9 as an example. The first half of the series was decent, especially being in the shadow of TNG. Then, the awesome dominion war story arc hit boiling point and the show really stood out as something great. When the Sixers and Terra Nova finally hit breaking point, and they’re battling it out with lasers mounted to dinosaurs, this show is really going to be something special, until then, it’s just good enough to keep me watching.
Great ep this week. Good mix of drama and action and there was finally some big dinosaur stuff, though it was pretty brief.
Still watching this show, but so far I think it has only been OK. Most of the characters just haven’t been all that interesting. Taylor is cool, Jim is cool when he is with Taylor. Wash is pretty cool. Elizabeth hasn’t really done much besides be the go-to character for science. The kids just seem like they will be forever in annoying subplots.
One other thing I would address is all the hoopla about the budget and effects. The effects are good, they’ve had a good amount of them and all that. Those buggys they drive around in probably ain’t cheap. But honestly, Stargate Universe, and even Atlantis regularly did way more impressive things, and that was on cable. So did Caprica. So while I have no problem with the visuals, I don’t see what all the hype was about this looking like a blockbuster movie every week.
My hoopla with budget and effects is that they’ve made a very deliberate decision to set the show in the era of dinosaurs, then don’t have very many. Why let such an ambitious show suffer right out of the gate, why not save it for a time when you can afford it? In the pilot episode they had dinosaurs right at the fence eating leaves out of the gardens and stuff, but since that episode the world feels completely dead outside of the two human factions and the odd encounter.
Apparently the ratings had a solid jump this week and I hope that trend continues. This is the kind of show where all the annoying kid subplots and generic story arcs are forgivable when there’s a good action scene, I just need more frequent actions scenes to balance out everything else that’s happening.
I really enjoy Terra Nova. The pace is moving steady enough to keep me interested, unlike SGU which moved too slowly for me to care. I think the numbers and formula is about manipulating the portal as a two-way, versus the one-way they insist it is. Obviously you can’t have the entire population go back at once, but surely that has to be someone’s goal if the planet is dying. My other guess is that Taylor’s son has figured out how to choose the era the portal goes to. They can’t expect humanity to last through an ice age without major technology.
I could stand a bit more dino action, but I always enjoy the human drama more. I hope the show makes it. It certainly hasn’t had the instant cult/blockbuster success that LOST had almost right out of the gate.
I finally got around to watching the most recent episode, and I thought it was a huge step up from the previous bunch. Pacing was the word for that one I think. It moved at a place usually reserved for action movies, rather than the slow plot most of the episodes have had so far.
I also think we need to start doing Chuck Norris style facts about Commander Taylor, who has become a major bad ass at this point.
-Commander Taylor is the reason the Dinosaurs went extinct.
-Once, one of the buggys ran out of power. After punching it for 10 minutes it began to run again. He has never had to charge them since.
-After the extinction event, all that will be left is 5 cockroaches and Commander Taylor.
Etc…
