Stargate Universe

THAT makes this even odder. What if it is all in Eli’s head? What if he fell asleep playing a video game and Dr. Rush is actually a Microsoft Xbox team employee?

Pick from this list of her other acting exploits, then: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1365460/

Personally I’d recommend Masters of Horror ;D

I did like Elli’s pseudonym to talk to his mom.

Another thing which has bothered me about this series is that no one has brought up the idea of using the ring to go to THE OTHER SHIP!

If there are gates on these worlds they are visiting, that means there must be a ship flying ahead of them seeding gates on these worlds… DUH!?!

A season 2 discovery, perhaps?

Maybe that’s where that one shuttle that departed during the credits a few episodes ago went.

Ok, maybe they are dolts for not thinking of the idea, but they really don’t have control over when and where the ship drops out of FTL (except when they waste energy). Plus, the next ship could be in worse shape than Destiny.

We might see an encounter by season 2 though by my guess. Or, February sweeps if they get desperate.

They’re drone ships, I’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned in the show

Farscape had quite a few survival episodes as they were often running out of supplies, but they mixed it with interactions with alien species. I would not be mad if they made SGU more like Farscape. Heck, any show would benefit from being more like Farscape.

yes…

take the more realistic Voyager reference for example, well yes it is more realistic now in that the ship is falling apart and they are running out of supplies even though it can run through suns to collect energy and drop them to planets where they can find supplies. but what about interacting with new species part of voyager?

or say if BSG is all about the fleet trying to find Earth, but the Cylons didn’t bother coming after them. And 4 seasons are just them wondering, looking for supplies, and having their ship falling part, without any interaction with anyone outside the RTF.

It might still be a good show, because RTF still is an impressive humanity, but it definitely won’t be as engaging…

alright… it feels like no one is watching SGU anymore, at least they are not talking about it…

after watching the last episode, I hope they do an episode with someone attempting to escape on earth with help of loved ones, after using the communication stones to transport into someone else’s body. And the entire airforce ends up chasing after the person.

But if they do this, they need to do with with someone we care about, with a reason that we can feel for, instead of some slime that we don’t care if he lives or dies.

The show is still show. Especially show on making the viewers care about the people and identifiying with them. Voyager wasn’t the best show ever, but I started caring about the characters after 2 episodes.

Right now the only person mildly likable is Eli. And the only person I really have strong feelings for is Rush… that being I hate his guts… which isn’t helping me like this show.

Um all they gotta do it cut the power at the stone base. That’s what Telford’s phone call was about.

i guess the only way to achieve it would be to create a situation where if they cut the connection it would result in death on both sides.

I was on the official Stargate podcast cum source of all inside info that even its’ own crew and cast check out the site: http://www.gateworld.net/

Anyway, did ya know there are actually two ships in SG:U. One is used for seeding gates; the other, I forgot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, for the lack of response, one must wonder if the ship that they’re on has A PLAN? Maybe, if they asked the ship nicely to send them home? Mind their P’s & Q’s? heheh…

I’m still watching too Hansioux. I just keep waiting for an event to happen that makes my half-closed eyelids open. I really don’t want to give up on SGU, but given that I have so many seasons of awesome SG-1 to catch up on, I may be doing so soon. Aside from Rush, whom I don’t even like but is at least interesting to watch, there’s nothing else that’s grabbing me here. Each week I hope beyond hope that this episode will be the one and my mind’ll be slightly blown enough by something to keep me invested. Sadly, hasn’t happened yet.

But…still watching.

I just watched episode 8 and I really enjoyed it. Virulent disease, deadly alien creatures, some great crew interaction. I understand if people don’t like character dramas, but that’s what this show is; character drama with a scifi backdrop. They are tackling some serious issues, granted they don’t have to do with aliens, but the issues are important. That’s what scifi is about imo, asking questions about human motivation and action in a way that removes it from everyday life. The more episodes I watch, the more it all unfolds, the more I enjoy it (certainly more than a similar show -FlashForward- which is entertaining but already starting to drag while SGU is picking up)

good point, i am a sucker for character dramas which made me think why SGU’s character drama fails to resonate with me.

At first, I was thinking maybe what the characters are going through is too unusual to be relatable, but then I thought about BSG where the situation is completely surreal and yet i have immense connections with the characters and what they are going through.

So I am at a lost here. Perhaps so far the story is more plot driven and not actually character driven. At the same time there are actually very little going on with the plot of each episode. I dunno, I just haven’t connected with any character.

I really enjoy Young’s clash with Rush, especially their difference in ideology. Where Rush thinks ends justifies the means, and Young just can’t stand Rush’s cavalier attitude towards human life, suffering or condition.

Maybe if every episode can have a theme, and a A plot and B plot that connects at the theme, like a theme about the difference between Rush and Young’s take on human life, it’d be more character driven. Right now everything feels very reactionary…

I agree. I hope Im not just looking at it through rose colored glasses because I see the potential. Not to mention, after recently rewatching Sg1 season 1, I realized how bleh the first season was. Entertaining, but I’m not sure I would have stuck with it if it had aired post BSG. Fortunately season 2-6 have been awesome, I think SGU will definitely be a lot more kickass, its just going through some first season bumbling.

I think if a show is going to be a character drama with a scifi backdrop then it needs to have really interesting characters, or, failing that, a pretty damn interesting scifi backdrop. This show has neither really.
The Baltar-esque character of Rush has just been done all wrong I think. Eventually they’ll probably do an episode that reveals him to be an ol’ softy (because this show likes cliches) but it won’t do enough. Baltar was as easy to hate as he was to love and even pity from the miniseries onwards. Rush just isn’t that.

You’re right about that Rush hasn’t been written like that. I doubt they ever will. I don’t think he will be an old softy. But I think we will find out why he puts up the facade of being so non caring. We may have been given a glimpse of it back in the pilot when he was looking at the picture.

My bigger question is when is Young going to let Eli in the throne room to check on if Rush is telling all there. Young knows he can trust in Eli implicitly. Granted he does get side tracked easily. He also keeps Rush honest. Now we all know this will be an important part to be used in the show. Just a matter of where and when. In next week mid season or later in the finale.
