A week and a half ago, my brother asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I said either the LotR Extended Edition Blu-ray set or the Star Wars Blu-ray set. After I heard about Vader, I text him saying just the LotR set. d:

I still want the Bonus stuff though. And, I think I’ve yet to get the prequels in any incarnation. We’ll see what happens for the 3D release I guess.

Spike is showing all 6 movies (not in a row) today, Sunday, and Monday. Episode I started 15 minutes ago.

Edit: Oh, they are showing Lucasarts stuff between breaks.

When they arrive on Netflix, you can rent them and check out the extras.

Netflix? They are so expensive now. d:

Besides, I’m sure they’d send the crappy no frills discs with just the movies.

I think I saw the brownies in the movie Your Highness; they was a brief cameo in the tavern scene, with them in it.

The marketing hype is strong with this one…

My wife is going to be getting the complete Saga for my Birthday/Christmas present. My wife is very awesome. I know I have seen all but Empire and Star Wars in the theater, and I am ok with what GL has done with his movies. I do miss the Yub-Nub music but I am ok with it. I know there are many haters of changes, but as a person who is working on my own animation, I can see why he would want to fix what he sees as flaws in his works. I envy you who got to see Star Wars in the theater and hold that version as the only true version.

I hear ya. I’ve said this before, GL can change anything he wants yet I still think he should offer the original films in pristine quality also. That’s all I’m asking for. I think if he did that, there would be no haters.

I am pretty sure GL would not go back to the originals. I think the only way that could happen is by having someone with the unopened VHS or “if its on laserdisc” transferred to a digital media and not have the Lucasfilms laywers destroy the project.

What would be the point of transferring VHS to Digital? VHS is approximately 300X480 resolution compared to 720X480 DVD and 1920X1080 Blu-Ray. GL has the source negatives which have been cleaned and transferred to digital archive at ahem I can’t be sure but I think they are probably archived at 4K (4096X2160). He just refuses to release the original films. That is the douchebaggery of it. To be honest, with the fun things you can do with Blu-ray, I thot GL was going to release a “multi-angle” version of Star Wars. You could watch the original, with the '97 Special Edition changes in another window, with the '04 DVD changes in another window, etc. That would have been interesting and fun. I would have paid for that. Having another changed version on another format…not interersted.

That being said, I’ve seen the commercials and my heart races. The picture looks amazing and the spoiled child in me cries, “I want it. I want it. I want it.” But the mature adult in me knows, I’m only going to be hurt. Mind you, it is very…and I stress here…VERY rare that I listen to the my mature adult side.

Yeah, GL has access to the masters, but he’s being a censored about it and only released the crappy dvd stereo audio version of the originals.

I think we’ll have to wait for his death before we get decent high definition release of the originals.

Unless the original GL somehow resurfaces from where ever he is being held. d:

This is where I’m at. Do I go now and get the set or do I wait for the 3D in a few years? Right now I don’t have a 3D set or player. And TBH I’m not sure I want to at this point. As much as I enjoy 3D in the theaters. For home I’m not just that compelled. More then likely then I’ll be getting the 2D for now. 3D maybe later some day. This reminds me of that scene in MIB. When Tommy Lee says to Will Smith “Looks like I’m gonna have to buy the White album again.”.

My set should be arriving on Monday. I’m of the mind now where I am used to George messing with the movies and while I may not be happy with all of it, I don’t let it spoil my enjoyment of the saga. The movies are still 98% of what I experienced as a kid and I plan to share that with my kids. Oddly enough, my daughter was watching the series with me and seemed to lose interest when we got to the original trilogy. Kids! I firmly believe that some day we will get the pristine, unaltered version of these films. It may not be until George has passed on, but I really think that it will happen. Now you have Steven Speilberg, one of George’s good friends, speaking about what a mistake it was to alter E.T… I think he will see the light of reason and release them for posterity’s sake, it just might take a while to get in through all the flannel

Picked up my copy of the Saga from Costco. Now we just need to buy the Blu-ray player.

Hehe. I used to be like that. I had my first cassette, LP, CD, and DVD before I had the players. My Blu-ray player was the first hardware I bought before having the media. d:
