Star Wars Blu-rays

Blu-Ray Release Trailer

It’s kinda cool to see all 6 movies intercut in a trailer.

Even with the prequels and Special Edition stuff, that looks pretty good.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Star Wars in three distinct sets to meet the needs of every Star Wars fan:

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films)
Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III)
Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)

Depending on the edition(s) included, that may make quite a few ppl happy.

$89 doesn’t seem like a bad price. I’m going to buy this when it comes out and it will be my excuse to move to Blu-Ray.

Although, I can already hear my wife. “Another copy of Star Wars?!?” Hahah

Repost from Random News:

This will hold me until they release the 5th anniversary of the Blu-ray release with 80 hours of bonus footage. They have enough footage to squeeze more money out of us for decades to come.

Looking at the Amazon page, I noticed the table in the middle. None of the sets have the original theatrical version… Knowing that Lucas plans to release 3D versions within a few years, I’m thinking of delaying my purchase now. The 40 hours of bonus footage is tempting, but I only plan to own one Blu-ray set (this time).

There’s no real excuse not to have the original version on Blu-ray really. Silly me for thinking “Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI)” meant “Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI) w/ Theatrical version.”

Found a few SW Blu-Ray preview clips. Don’t worry about them being in German. The picture is what counts. Am I only noticing it now, or did the Techno-Union ships crack open like in the clip for AOTC also in the previous released versions??

Recently, I opened up my copy of what’s-known-as the Limited Edition DVD version of Star Wars. That’s the version transferred from Laserdisc to DVD in December 2006. I found a site where someone created an AVS script to convert to anamorphic. I think I’ve worked all the kinks out and finally have an anamorphic 16:9 version of the original film.

Problem is, I’ve seen Adywan’s Star Wars Revisited. The picture and sound quality is so crisp and clean, it makes the savage geek dwelling within foam at the mouth. As impressed as I was with Adywan’s version, it left me with the same impression as the Special Edition version Lucas released. Why are you changing it so much? Can I just get a cleaned up version of the damn Original film?

Le sigh.

I should be excited about this Blu-Ray release but to be honest I’m apathetic. The first movie I tapped off TV, using a VCR, was Star Wars. I bought my first DVD player to watch Phantom Menace. I was expecting to buy my first Blu-Ray player to enjoy Star Wars. Alas, I won’t.

That being said, I ain’t being a hater. I will not grab a pitchfork and torch to protest at the local BuyMore or storm Skywalker Ranch. Maybe I am getting old. I just don’t understand. They’ve (meaning Lucas and Adywan) already got a cleaned version which they’ve added stuff to. What is the big problem with just releasing the cleaned up version? Even if it’s on iTunes and download-able. You don’t have to package all them DVDs, etc. I don’t need no fancy menus. I just want the dang film.

Alright. I’ll just go back to my own private corner in my padded cell. Thanks for listening.

ETA: Hmmm, it appears there is a PURISTS edition of Adywan’s version. downloading now

Any further impressions on that?

OK. The Purist version is the one I wanted. I’m not sure why it was so difficult to find. Adywan removed all the fancy changes and left the best parts in.

The picture looks amazing. The sound is great.
Vader has blinky lights.
No re-edit of Obi-wan and Luke in Ben’s hovel.
Lightsaber colors fixed.
Han shoots first.
No Imperial March.
No re-edit or added music with Obi-wan and Vader fight.
No added music in the Death Star battle.

I’m still going to fiddle with my copy but I’m really happy to have the Adywan’s Purist version.

Some hardcore fans are pushing back on Blu Ray release

What a shocker that Lucas continues to meddle with his films. I will wait to purchase when I can get the three real films, Lucas gets no more money from me for the wasted opportunity and horrifying monstrosity that those three prequels were. He needs to reboot those. Now. And let someone else direct. And write. Example of his tinkering:

“Prequels are the path to the dark side. Prequels lead to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to me forever bitching about the ABOMINATION that the sequels are”

People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society.

In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.

Attention should be paid to this question of our soul, and not simply to accounting procedures. Attention should be paid to the interest of those who are yet unborn, who should be able to see this generation as it saw itself, and the past generation as it saw itself.

Talos, I dunno if that’s real or not, but you are just asking for trouble for yourself and this site. d:

It’s telnet…text…ASCII characters. What trouble could it cause for us?!

Oh…

The original post had a site (wasn’t a link). I ignored the protocol and imagined the worse. d:
