Apparently BOINC does not like XP, the crashes have gotten more frequent. I tried reinstalling it after defragging my drive but that only made it worse. It stopped recognizing my Graphics Cards in retaliation to my efforts.
It was almost enough to make me give up trying… So installed it on my Vista partition, now it never crashes. It also refused to recognize my GPU’s though so I scoured the message boards to see if there was a solution. I finally found one, I updated the drivers on my graphics cards and the ornery program finally recognized them. Now I can rejoin the team after a long absence.
I installed new drivers on the XP partition and the spastic software is now recognizing my GPU’s but it still crashs… So I ordered BOINC to no longer accept new tasks, I will run them down while using XP for my normal work and once they are finished I will switch over to using Vista only.
Now that I figured out how to disable the UAC Vista is no longer so damned annoying. Those blasted ‘permission needed’ windows drove me crazy… Once I can scrape the money together for Windows 7 I will be able to finally make use of all that RAM I invested in earlier this year!
EDIT: BOINC just crashed Vista last night, I guess no OS I own is safe from its wrath…
