Hrmm, I have to check on how I can keep it going when I am not there. I can probably lock the computer but stay logged in which will work.
Oops. Yes, you need to be logged in to the computer (rather than the internet) for he process to run.
That would work, just don’t jeopardize your job!

We frakking kick arse. Well done to everyone! We are getting to the territory where we are going to start going head to head with established teams that have been around far longer than us. Time to double down.
We are also up to 55 members! I have been downplaying soliciting this due to focusing on the Podcast Awards. If others can step in to help rally membership I would greatly appreciate it.
Woot! Go Team GWC!
For anyone who hasn’t joined, come on in the water’s fine. Just download, join GWC’s team and let it run. Once you get it set up you can just let it run in the background and pretty much ignore it if you want.
If anyone is doing BOINC work units for any of the following projects, I’ve created ‘Galactic Watercooler’ teams for each of them as well:
Climate Prediction
PrimeGrid
QMC@Home
Rosetta@Home
World Community Grid

P.S. Not sure if this has been brought up in this thread, but I use http://www.boincstats.com/ to manage all my machines via a single interface. Works pretty well, too.
The continual awesomeness of the podcast convinced me to search for extra-terrestrial life with you guys…
(In as Dave Gwynn in seti@home…)
Just to say, if anyone had (for example) bought a quick graphics card purely to play EvE online with super-pretty graphics and felt that it was rather going to waste and not worth the investment, install Seti@home and feel vindicated.
Two pretty much identical machines here, but one has a discrete graphics card, and look at the difference in number crunching power!
Welcome aboard, CAT. That is quite a difference, I’m assuming they’ve run for about the same amount of time?
I need to get a GPU. Dang!
Nice to be aboard, Pike! They have been up for roughly the same amount of time, 24 days or so for the faster one and 18 or so for the slower one. I was amazed by the difference in using a GPU. Even a quite slow graphics card can make a big difference, I have a budget passively cooled card in a media center downstairs, again the same processor (I’m big on variety!), and the card was doing about four times more processing than each core of the CPU. Had to shut that one down however, as the GF wasn’t too pleased with the fact that running Seti made all video watching v…e…r…y j…e…r…k…y.
My protestations that making the Simpsons play at a few frames a second was worth several percent more alien-finding power, sadly, fell on deaf ears…
Okay I’ve got it installed and I’m part of team GWC.
Welcome aboard Witchiepoo…I mean Witchiebunny. Hopefully they’ll get the splitter servers going again soon and more work units will be available.
…Witchiepoo…now there’s a new one.
gets out the squeaky purple rubber mallet
I love purple!
Your ID reminded me of the character on H.R. Pufnstuf.
I haved been able to get any ‘New Tasks’ for two days now…
Has anyone else had this problem???
That’s part of the reason I run Einstein too. One of them is almost certain to be up.
I’ve got mine set up for 7 days worth of work units…so I don’t run dry often.
I looked at my Preferences and noticed that it wasn’t using my GPU. I have a gaming quality video card so I turned it on. I finished a task that would normally take a day and a half in 3 hours.
I highly recommend turning on your GPU. it is not on by default
Yay, i reactivated an old seti account and joined the team.
Taking advantage of feeling sick and being on the couch by downloading this and joining the team. Yo.
