Either I’m doing something wrong, or my PC is truly pathetic. I’ve had it running since Monday, and it APPEARS to be working, but it hasn’t finished anything and I have no credits yet.
Looks like you got an Astropulse for the first job. They take a lot longer to process than the others I have scene. I wouldn’t be surprised if it took several days. After that it also take several days to validate. If you look at the task menu in Boinc you should see what it is working on and it should have an estimated finish time. From what I see it has two people work a job and then it compares results to verify accuracy. That can also delay the verification if one person is done and the other just started. As long as that task screen is crunching you are in good shape.
i had to stop running the BOINC screen saver, because it locks up my Windows display… i think it’s just telling me that my video card is old, but it’s alright… i can live without the cool graphic…
Yeah, the task menu does show that. And it gave me an estimated finish of 300+ hrs the other day. I didn’t remember to check it tonight before I left. It just didn’t seem right when everyone else is talking about earning credits every day… And my PC is pathetic.
Have you gone into the BOINC manager and “updated” your tasks?
BOINC…Rachelsnorflt!
I just added Einstein to my task pool. On Team GWC of course.
Not tonight, and I can’t do it from here, but the seti@home page says it’s still processing.
BOINC BOINC! giggle
I have also noticed it way overestimates that figure. If it has ran for some time it will tell you how long it has been working on it. Say it has done 25% in 8 hrs I would figure it will be done in 24 hrs even though the estimate is +300 hrs.
Good news everyone! That is fantastic, we achieved our goal with weeks to spare, I guess we need to reset the clock for 75. At this rate we are going to find ET by next week, which is great because I am hungry for Reeses Pieces.
Start the clock Mr Gaeta…
Also, Anybody “lurking” here on the forums are also encouraged to join both this forum and / or the Galactic watercooler team on SETI. you don’t have to join both, but you sure are welcome if you do.
I’m still not sure how it all works…I’ve been to the SETI website and all but they don’t really explain it well
Here is the process, high level:
If you have any specific questions let us know and we can help.
Glad I’m not the only one. Gonna follow your directions Solai and take a peek, it sure sounds fun.
Request: Keep the Seti Badge the same height as the dogtags. That’ll let it sit nicely in the sigs.
Good call. If I had to do it all over again I would make the dog tags about half their current height. Hmmm. This has given me a thot.
Aliens say they want to put more than one pic in there sigs.
Ok, I just joined and set it up on my work computer! I don’t know when I will show up on the list, I assume its not instantaneous.
Does anyone know if it stays active on a Windows XP machine when you are logged off of the computer, but the computer is still on?
Yes, you only need to be logged in to send and receive work units.
Fenatic, yes, you need to be logged into your computer for the process to run. If you are logged off all processes including BOINC will not run. Welcome to the team!
