Solai, Chuck’s computer has like 1,0000 quad core processors in it. he is climbing the leader chart, like a little fairy up the length of link/Neal’s…(well you know what i mean.)
Speaking of Solai… I’m now ahead of you in both overall and recent average.
Phtbbbbbbbbbbbbbbttttttttttttttt!!
Leave Solai Alone!!!
Moderating takes up a lot of cycles.
So, team Galactic Watercooler update. In less than a month moved from last place out of 84,810 teams for each category:
Position based on total credit
18,812
Position based on average credit
1,093
Position based on number of team members
1,367
Congrats to all! Help spread the word so we can make our membership goal of 50 by Thanksgiving!
I just signed my parents up! Shhh!
Or, I will have, except that the server is down right now…
I know. And I know what you mean.
That image was both appreciated AND disturbing.
Truth be told there is a really important point here: if we view this as our own internal competition we will fail. Why? Because if we compete against each other people will get discouraged and stop participating. It is true that some people have truly superfly computers that can chew and spit out jobs in short order. This is a good thing.
We are all part of team Galactic Watercooler. Our success is shared across everyone. We should focus our energy on bringing in more members and spreading the word (and, perhaps volunteering family members and friends with and without their knowledge…especially if they have superfly computers!) Our success is measured in a combination of total members, total credit and total average credit. We win this thing together. If we take a hit to our average credit because we doubled our numbers and people didn’t have cutting edge computers I still count that as a win.
…and by the way, we are up to 40 members! Huzzah! 10 more to reach our goal! Look at our results to date, they are really impressive for being around less than a month. Our commitment and strength is awesome.
muwhahaha! You’re wicked Solai. I like it.
I need to have a word with whoever designed those graphs.
I think they were designed for the masses my friend. Considering they have to support 80,000 teams on the fly you can see their rationale. However, click on the link in my siggy to see all of the graphs, I selected the appropriate ones, they have several others types and styles less Spartan.
I’ve joined now! And I started to set it up on my parent’s computer, but the server was down yesterday, and I won’t be able to finish it until I’m back down there for Thanksgiving. evil grin
I really wish my Mom’s and Step-Mom’s laptops were more superfly, because they literally sit on their desks on non-stop almost all day. Given the years of free technical support this is the least they can do to give something back to me, which I give back to the community.
My step-father was actually just asking me,
“Do you think it is time to retire the laptop? It is almost five years old.”
I responded, “No need. You guys are light users at best. You check your email and occasionally browse the web.”
Next time I think I will email him and say, “You know what? I’ve been thinking about your question and I realized I was in error. It is time to upgrade the laptop. Time we moved you to a desktop. How about an Alienware 3.86mhz Quadcore with dual 1.8 Gig NVIDIA GeForce video card and 12 Gig of memory? Sounds great right? What, too expensive? Well, we throw out the 2 terrabyte internal drive and simply go with the 1.2 terrabyte one to keep it under $7,000. Should I use the credit card I have on file?”
My 'rents have a relatively new Mac Desktop which uses nowhere near it’s capacity, except when Mom gets going with Illustrator and such, which rarely happens now that school’s back in session. It’s split between 3 users, Mom, Dad, and a general family one. If I’m sneaky, I can get it up and running on the general user partition without them even knowing!
I’ve joined!
Happy Birthday Carl!
I can’t think of a better post with which to make OG!
love, me! b!
Let’s make it a theme on the call tonight! Paaah and SETI@Home!
I’m in. (Joined the GWC team yesterday, actually).
Also, as I side project I’ll be working a list of explainations for E.T. once he contacts us.
Not sure how I’m gonna 'splain reality TV or Paris Hilton, but I’ll think on it.
I too have joined the ranks of the GWC faithful on Team Watercooler. Not sure how it works or when it refreshes but I have a few (not tons but a few) credits i can bang out a day so we’ll add those to the fray.
Rock on Solai and well done. In case anyone is curious I split mine between Seti and Einstein
Just joined too and added the few credits I had previously. Great work Solai
Welcome aboard Sean and Yorick! E.T. awaits!
Has anyone figured out how to allocate the split between two projects? If you add more than one it halves the resources but I don’t see a way of saying, “Give SETI 90% and Einstein 10%”
I’d like to be able to do this to support Einstein but give the lion’s share to SETI. Thots?
EDIT: Figured it out. On Advanced view:
- Click on projects
- Click on project you want to manage (Einstein@home, Seti@home, etc)
- On right hand panel click “Your account”
- In preferences section click link next to Resource Share and Graphics
- Amend resource share appropriately.
Fin.
Now I feel pretty good. 90% dedicated to SETI, 10% to Einstein. If you are supporting Einstein be sure to join the Galactic Watercooler team for that project. Teams don’t cross projects…slightly confusing, but makes sense.
Just joined GWC Team
I too joined a couple of days ago. And Solai looks like you got what you were looking for. i just check and the group has 52 members. Now we need to shoot for 75
