S04E08 - Sine Qua Non Episode Discusion <spoilers>

Hey, first post of page 7!

key difference between final five and blah seven:

doral, leoben, cavil and doctor guy (who is he again?) spent a lot of time with microwaves on at crotch level - seriously though, maybe the males were made impotent.

It’s definitely a case of head-cat in the ep, btw, kind of like the guy in the sixth sense.

cool to see behind the scenes tormented romo.

zarek is a tool

good to see husker again - i didn’t think it was forced, i think they kept their relationship discreet and that is how it was presented to us.

Starbuck is the only damn pilot left (pike’s dead now, who didn’t see that coming?) - can’t be Racetrack, she needs to be out in that raptor finding new interesting stuff like corpses (pretty bad cgi racetrack btw, i didn’t know a person’s body bends in a distinct fold at mid-boob level)

Good to see they jailed the baby too. Damn kid is gonna get everyone shot.

WHY IS MY HARD DRIVE CLANKING? IT SHOULDN’T BE DEAD YET!

Not looking good for Helo. poor poor emily/bkitty/ladyd/audra, maybe no more Helo arm-porn?

I want to see a Roslin vs. Adama showdown for presidency.

Can I haz cheezburger? No, cuz im dead in a bag!

Anyone else think that recording sounded pitched up?

ROFL at the Adama joke: “do you know how many time’s I’ve had to repair that thing?”

Bring back D`anna already!

Warning: Spoilers above.

I’m okay with our Gaelic friend’s disagreeing with us on this and I could see how someone could call this ep brilliant in that it moved the chess pieces into an interesting direction - because that’s true.

We have Adama in the raptor, Lee as Mr. Pres and Tigh in command - I can’t wait to see what will happen next.

The way that all this was achieved, though, was in no way indicative of BSG’s usual quality. I would have been fine with just a New-Caprica-style “48 hours later” flash forward and seeing what happened in the end, no further explanation given. Would have been much better than seeing Romo slaving away at his white board when it was so clear that Lee was going to be Pres anyway.

What a bunch of whiny babies. No wonder the Emperor dissolved the Senate.

Yeah, that was interesting. Was he purposely holding back? Or just not as angry and out of control as he appeared to be? OTOH, did anyone else notice Six’s reaction when he grabbed her by the throat? She seemed genuinely surprised at how strong he was. If she didn’t know what he was before, she certainly does now.

And, how on earth can Tigh makes Six pregnant?

Well, when two Cylons love each other very much…

Personally, I think it looks ridiculous. His costuming and hair were particularly bad in this episode, IMO. It looks like Saturday Night Fever.

Maybe Cylon eggs do.

But how “positive” are those feelings when they make you disregard the safety of your entire species???

Tigh in command . Well. Adama said it . he is not the same man he was . He’s changed . he is now a better man then he ever was . Greater. Stronger .

Yes, he’s changed. He’s got the confidence of a Cylon now.

He as been throught fire, and he as come out harder than steel.

Which isn’t surprising, considering his titanium endoskeleton.

Agreed. The episode felt too rushed, like it was five hours of programming crammed into a single episode. My feeling is that this sort of “cliffhanger” episode, leading into a hiatus, should have the audience dying to know what’s going to happen next, not struggling to figure out how they got where they are now.

I was thinking the same thing. I noticed in one scene he was talking to the cat, then picked up the carrier and walked out without ever putting the cat into it. Very odd. And don’t they have putrefaction on spaceships? How did no one smell a dead cat as he was walking around?

To me, that would be lazy writing. Basically, it’s just saying that we’re going off on a whole new tangent, completely unrelated to everything that’s come before it, and we have no idea how to connect the two, so we just won’t bother.

Would have been much better than seeing Romo slaving away at his white board when it was so clear that Lee was going to be Pres anyway.

Yeah, what was the obsession with the whiteboard? Someone’s been watching too much House, M.D.

looking like Saturday Night Fever… maybe, but he is still hot XD

So, the FF were not Cylon strong before they knew they were Cylons? Or are they really no stronger than humans (ominous music)? C’mon - what gives here?

it’s a sign that Adama’s a cylon

Well, in all fairness, if I were building a race of androids to be used as sleeper agents (not that I am, of course, why? what have you heard?), I’d make sure that they couldn’t be detected prematurely and break their cover. Since these sleeper agents aren’t even aware of it themselves, some system of inhibiting their unusual abilities until they’re ready to be activated would make sense.

My positive observation: Skyone’s bug is MUCH less annoying than Skiffy’s

I wasn’t served tea, though. I guess it’s the downside of piracy.

I thought the downside of piracy was “rum, sodomy, and the lash”? Any combination thereof could be an upside, of course, depending on one’s tastes. IYKWIM.

I’m enjoying them

  1. If Jake is a ‘hero of the resistance’ does that mean everyone in the fleet knows about Gaeta being the mole on New Caprica? That Tigh, Anders, and the Chief were the leaders of the resistance, etc?

They probably know of Tigh et al, and Jake. It’s not clear if they now know that Gaeta was on the other end of that exchange.

Welcome, BTW, and great handle!

Sometimes (in fact often) I am nagged by the thought that the remarkably consistent “world” (for a TV show) that the writers created and sustained for 3 seasons has become so convoluted and complicated that there is no way to bring all this to a succesful conclusion.

I wonder how your icon character would look in the Cain/Roslin wig? It boggles the mind.

I’m telling you, it’s all going to come down to Patrick Duffy in the shower. Or that they were on Earth all along. You maniacs!

I wonder how your icon character would look in the Cain/Roslin wig? It boggles the mind.

Do you often have such thoughts about cartoon characters?

I’m sure this episode will ro, but I don’t get Adama. He his emotionally cold at the wrong times, and too emotional at others.

Yes, Tigh is a different person. But, he just beat up Bill, and got the cylon preggers.

Comes with the weight of leadership. I wouldn’t know anything 'bout that.

What do you have, a stash of Shatner pics that you can draw from? Did you see the one I posted weeks ago in the Shatner thread? The one from Loaded Weapon?

Of course. Doesn’t he look like Baron Von Shatner in that film? The Safari outfit is all wrong. He needs a smoking jacket or better yet, a cape.

I’m still creeped out by that other guy in the background there, he looks like the cross between a cheap copy of Chuck Norris and a second-rate pimp.

That’s Tim Curry!! You think that get-up is bad. Take a gander at Rocky Horror’s Dr. Frank-N-Furter
