Mass Effect

I never sprang for an XBOX 360, favoring to jack up my PC and get a Wii instead, but this might be the game that sells me on the system. I assumed there would be a pc version out to at least in dev but it appears there are no plans for a pc version at all.

That game sounds too good to miss!

Steve, I totally feel your pain. I managed to avoid the 360 (and all the current-gen consoles – I had an old PS2 and Xbox) until three days after the Halo 3 release… Then I totally caved.

Now I’m pretty happy. I think it’s the most practical of the three new consoles, and there are lots of great games out for it. I even like many of the XBL-available games – everything from Monopoly to an eat-the-fish game. Good stuff.

Speaking of Sponsors… I really think that the makers of Mass Effect should give Sean a cut of profits after his review… LOL

I too held off as long as possible… For me it was Assassin’s Creed that made me cave… A splinter cell 'esq game set in mid-evil times with swords… oh yeah… where do I sign up… LOL

Now it is call of duty that has me wrapped around it’s pinky…

I am like you Chuck, and have started getting games off the XBL… They are offering to allow you to buy / download older xbox games from there as well, I have picked up Fable, and like Sean, am doing everything as evil as possible, and I picked up Crimson Skies from there… great stuff…

KOTOR and Jade Empire were both released initially only on the XBox and later came out for the PC. I am hoping that Mass Effect will follow the same pattern once their exclusivity agreement with Microsoft expires. Maybe around this time next year we’ll see it.

yah some games are just system sellers (mario, zelda, FF for me), but what’s kept me from buying a 360 is that so many of their good titles do end up on the pc (halo, Elder Scrolls, gears of war).

I always assumed I would get a ps3, though no system-purchase motivating games (to me) have been released yet, though I still see that purchase in my future.

I could get both, but it’s hard enough to get to the gym in the winter without that much distraction =)

Amen brother. I just got through searching the internet to read up on the game only to be shocked at the fact it is “Xbox 360 only”

ARGH!

Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed - there is some vocal demand out there so you never know what might change. Then again, if they wait too long, even a great game like this can seem dated with new stuff around clamoring for attention.

Or we could just buy a 360 - which is probably a good idea anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

It took some convincing to get a Wii into my household. There is zero chance of me getting another game system here. I will have to wait until:

  1. PC version comes out
  2. Brother brings his 360 out to Mom’s house and forgets it
  3. Hell freezes over

#1 is my best bet…

Ah Fox News! you’ll never change

The best was watching one of the girls ask where is my atari and things like that. I think Fox should take a long look into Pac-Man. I mean it’s clearly Satanic with Ghosts running around, and it also clearly promotes the use of HGH or Steroids as Pac-Man roids-up, err powers up! And then goes on to eat these poor ghosts. And talk about nudity Mrs. Pac-Man is running around with nothing but a bow on!

And Mario promoting eating of Mushrooms and Weeds, I mean the entire gaming world is full of drugs, sex and Rock and Roll!!

The sad part? What I just wrote will probably happen given time :frowning:

Next up on Fox: Your children may be in the care of a zombie-worshipping cult that indulges in ritualistic cannibalism!

More on Catholic Schools after this…

<–raised Catholic, but rarely engages in cannibalism. Parents are disappointed.

Thats just plain sad,

I really think the people at fox news should all go on a corporate retreat sing some songs make some smores and chill the frack out, and come back to reality, Mass effect is the example they use for sexuality in Video games

Someone should really show them the begining of god of war,

<–raised Catholic, but rarely engages in cannibalism. Parents are disappointed.[/QUOTE]

Raised Catholic and only engage in Cannibalism on special occasions, or after a few to many… ohh and on arbour day you got to go full on Cannibal on Arbour day.

I’m a bad bad man

I saw more “sex” scenes in Family Guy then playing endless hours of mass effect. I mean family guy is on fox and it has tons of cristian jokes and makes fun of god. That is on Fox and there like “Oh my god, 6 seconds of seeing a blue butt on a M rated video game is so much worse then seeing peter and lois doing it for a minute”

I’m European. We get to see more nudity in a 20sec soap commercial than there is in all of Mass Effect

OMFG. I had no idea this game would be so complex. It’s great to see a game designed for a single-player, non-online content product.

I think that games like Halo etc have been designed for their online content, with a storyline thrown in, and this reflects in to often raised criticism that the single player game is too short. No risk of that here, and it seems the storyline evolves depending on how you play.

This concept (game outcome decided by gameplay) has been tried before. I used to have a PC game based on Blade Runner, where depending on what choices you made through the game a different outcome was revealed. If memory serves there was a total of 13 different possible endings, and you could choose how you dealt with characters in the game: polite, normal, surly, erratic or user choice. Sound familiar?

It was actually pretty good for a game released over 10 years ago.

Moderately amusing: this guy did a review of Halo 3 which was fiarly funny (someone linked it on GWC) so I thought I’d have a look at his opinion of ME.

Can’t say I agree with it all but I stand by my initial view that ME is very…complex.

Just spent the last little while watching most of his reviews got admit the assasins creed made me almost pee myself and guitar hero

and although i love Mass effect that was hilarious too

Ah yes, Yahtzee is a singular reviewer. He’s also a game designer, so he really knows what he’s talking about.

He did a couple of these on youtube before the Escapist wisely snatched him up. Here’s his first. (Fables: The Lost Chapters) (Both of these are NSFW)

And here’s his second. (The Darkness Demo)

Yeah, the Zero Punctuation reviews are hysterical; they’re part of my weekly routine.

He doesn’t seem to like RPGs or MMORPGs much though; he’s more of a FPS and Survival Horror type. His reviews are still hilarious though. I think his Guitar Hero III and Halo III reviews are his best.
