I swung by GameStop today – to pick up a Halo Legendary sticker for the back of my truck – and again saw the Mass Effect display. I even picked up a copy of their Game Informer mag because it had a preview of 'Effect.

The review says it’s the best story since Star Wars – something that the store guys echoed. Does anyone know if this is just hype? I’m starting to get excited, and after the April BSG push (and the one-month-plus push of the Halo Uprising #2 comic release) I don’t need any more letdowns!

As for story. Read the prequel novel and imagine that as the game. Since Drew karpyshyn wrote both the book and the game story and also since every thing you say has (literally) a world wide affect on everything vs. some of the other RPG’s of the like where you’ll have a choice in what you say but it all leads to the same point… So countless replay value.

But also if you want to pick up the demo disk with the documentary about making the game. (that you get when you pre-order the LE) without actually buying the game swing by the gamestop on Preston (next to B&N) on Thursday. I’ll get you one. wink

I totally agree. The book that comes before the first game is an easy read and that I have told you to buy chuck murmurs to myself. It pretty much sets up the story, the setting, the characters around your player character and also the races that you will encounter throughout the game that will lead into this trilogy of games. Yep Mass Effect is and was always stated from the get go to be a 3 part games series so expect Mass Effect 2 and 3 eventually as well. And honestly Bioware the developer has yet to make a bad rpg in my book.

I just wish I knew someone at a gamestop to get one of those disks. I thought you could only pre-order the limited edition online (the 70 dollar one). I guess I will stop by my local Gamestop today.

Well, now I’m gonna have to go out and pick up the book. It’s nice to be able to post about this stuff here, because so often you’ll “hear good things” about a game, but it’s all coming from one source. Guy at GameStop/Game Informer = same source. (Granted, even if you work at GameStop, you’re going to tell me your unvarnished opinion here, so I don’t count that the same way.)

And there’s always the KOTR connection. Everyone says that game was great, and if this the same plus more, it can’t be bad.

Actually, I might just take you up on that. Sean and I might be able to swing by at lunchtime. Are you there during the day or in the evening? I normally hit the 'Stop in the Frisco mall.

I just hope it’s not like Advent Rising for the original Xbox. Advent Rising had so much hype because the story was written by Orson Scott Card. Unfortunately the game did not do so well in sales, which is too bad; I would have loved to seen how the story ended. Actually, now that I think about it, the story really did have a BSG/Star Wars feel to it. I am just upset cause I wont ever know how the story ends! All you Xbox owners should check it out, you can probably pick it up for a few bucks. But you should especially check out out the incredible Knights of the old republic that was made by the same folks as mass effect.

Craaaap I am rambling.

Forget the hype, knowing the developers, the game will frakin rock.

If I can make a copy of it I could send you a KOTOR which has one of the cooler androids ever in it. HK47 :smiley: . Going to try to make a copy sometime today and see if I can if not might have to wait to visit a friend on mine.

Evening, because we are one of the few gamestops that stay open until 11PM so I’ll be there from 4PM till closing. If that makes any difference.

Sweet, just got the play disc burnt to a DVD-R. Can your computer run dvd-r’s chuck. Btw anyone else who might want this just ask I have no problem burning and sending.

I’m thinking of buying it. It looks pretty cool and is supposed to be the true successor to Knights of the Old Republic (I never played it.)

The one game I really am totally psyched for is Assassin’s Creed.

Did anyone get the special edition? From what I understand you can only get it through pre-order; just a heads up! I would have gotten it but hard to justify spending the extra 10$$ because I am such a cheap bastard. The game got a 9.75 out of 10 in gameinformer.

Ill probably pick this game up in a couple of years time when its ??10 or so but I had to make a call on which game to drop. being a student with a limited budget im already gonna be reduced to beans on toast for a year what with assassin’s creed, Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3 and Super Mario Galaxies. So this game’ll have to wait for a slow summer.

Personally this game is an instant buy for me already got the limited edition pre-ordered and going to pick up Call of Duty 4 and Assassin’s Creed up when they come out.

In many many aspects this game will change the gaming world. The voice acting is going to be awesome I mean they recorded over 20,000 lines. Which also means coupled with its morality system and the knowledge that for once what you say and do could literally effect the entire galaxy, that you will spend a lot of this game doing a lot of deep thinking. The story itself will be amazing as to be expected with any Bioware game. Bioware is also doing a very good job with combining RPG and FPS elements so it should appeal to a whole bunch more people. Also I just want to mention the fact that I have been listening to customers at gamestop and have not heard a single customer say anything bad about the game. God… Bioware should pay me for my promoting. I feel like an overhyping car salesman but for how long I’ve been waiting (2 and 1/2 years), I’m just glad to see that it looks like its going to be the great game I was waiting for.

1st:i know a reviewer who got it early he said it was the best game ever because, he belives it is the only game that could ever make him feal guilty, yes he felt guilty for some of his actions. with that said iid like top play to be a sadistic omnster who kills all in my path:)

I got my game like a day early because I wasn’t going to stay for the Rock Band premire(we were going to go ahead and start selling Mass during RB’s midnight release). So sue me Microsoft. I work at Gamestop, I sell your games.

But I’ve been looking forward to this game for two and a half years. No exageration at all I have the message board history to prove it. I have been on the edge of expectation for what seems like forever. So I would certainly be the most critical, of things they didn’t do that they(BioWare) said they would.

From playing for only a half hour I can tell you this game will blow your mind away. I thought I had studied every inch of this game, I thought I knew everything. But when I finially saw it, it still blew me away. Mark this day kids history has just been made.

For those that haven’t played it, I want to quote a song now that was brought to mind while playing it. Keep in mind I generally hate metal.
