Confirmed. I was nearly 100% Paragon and was able to resist Morinth. Then, I got a dialog choice to choose between them. On my Sentinel, I had no choice and the game chose Samara for me.
This is the Prima guide’s tip for the class mastery skill:
“Points in this power are required to access the most critical Paragon and Renegade conversation options in the game.”
If you’re grayed out of a Paragon/Renegade response, roll back the game a few saves. Reallocate squad points from the last mission to increase the mastery skill another level.
I noticed in the last two go arounds towards the game’s end that both Paragon and Renegade responses were open?!? 5:1 Renegade and 5:1 Paragon respectively, alignment didn’t seem to matter. I think this is also why I haven’t had a problem yet telling both Miranda and Jack to shaddup. I like to prioritize the mastery class fairly early in the game.
That’s what I did on my Adept play through.
This isn’t STRICTLY ME2 or spoilers, but I thought it was funny.

Things you need to know: the girl is extremely shy and OCD in the usual comic.
Yes it is Liara who gets your body back and gives it to Cerberus. That is essentially the storyline of the Redemption comic.
If the Shadow Broker isn’t a baddie in ME3, he will be in an ME2 DLC.
I doubt TIM is the Shadow Broker, because when states in the comic that they are essentially rivals and that’s about the only thing I believe out of his mouth. TIM and Cerberus spend too much time and money for him to be the SB since the SB is trying to turn Shepard’s body over to the Collector’s and by default the Reapers. I think the SB will turn out to either be an AI infected with the same virus as the Geth in Legion’s loyalty mission, or someone indoctrinated by Harbinger and thus under the control of the Reapers.
When EDI takes over the Normandy, she said, “I have control.” Isn’t that similar to the Collectors? … Yes, it is the same. I wonder if there’s any significance with that.
Mordin, my specialist got a head shot through the door he was trying to close. Weird because I thought he was very loyal…
I saved Kelly. Yay!
Dang it. I lost Samara, and she was Loyal. I took Zaeed with me expecting him to die because he wasn’t loyal. I sent Jack (not loyal) back with the crew and she died. I thought I’d lost Jacob (leader of the second squad), but he was ok. This is ending is bloodier. Dunno how I’ll ever get No One Left behind on my Engineer playthrough.
Zaeed died as I expected. Not from falling at the end, he wouldn’t get up after Shepard pulled the debris off him.
So, I lost Jack and Zaeed as expected, but losing Samara and Mordin too were a total surprise.
There was an XP bump from the completion of the other game. My Sentinel made it to level 25 even though I didn’t do 2 loyalty missions or finish all of the N7 missions. He still didn’t have full paragon after the credits though.
Kinda funny that you can cycle the appearance of dead squad members. Also, Zaeed’s Loyalty mission is still listed as unfinished in my Journal while Jack’s listed as completed. Side note: Packages for Ish never goes grey if I take the Paragon ending. Anyway, it’s good to see the ship full again after the credits though.
Now, I have the Long Service and Tactician Achievements. Still dunno about getting Brawler.
I just imported my Adept expecting to be able to change him to Engineer, but he started as level 26 Adept. Wow. Someone said imports let you get 200k credits and 50k of each mineral which is what happened. But, I hope a non-import restart after completing the game does the same.
And, you do. Yay! The import gave me some Medi-Gels, but I hardly use those.
I guess that is part of the Long Service Award Bonus. Didn’t you get that after the second time through?
Yes. It’s silly how close I was to finishing the Sentinel play through when I started Adept, but I’m glad I did. I hope I enjoy Engineering as much as I enjoyed Adept, but I have my doubts.
Anyone else have this glitch?
Another question for the Hive mind. What are the exact dialog options I must take in order for Ashley to send me an apology message? I thought I did everything right, but still nothing. I’ve romanced Miranda twice. I’m tempted to flirt with Kelly, but I’ve decided I want to win Ashley back this play through. I’ve tried Google and Youtube for solutions, but no luck.
Unrelated question: Does anyone have sure fire method of getting “No One Left Behind”? I know why Zaeed and Jack died in my Sentinel play through, but I’m still fuzzy why Tali and Grunt with my Adept, then Samara and Mordin died even with my guesses. I would have been less surprise if Legion had died since I spent the least amount of time with him, but he’s lived twice. My ship is always fully upgraded except for the medical bay scar fixer.
I am thinking it might be more of an Palpatine thing. He is playing both sides against each other making it seem like he is two different people. It would be a cool “twist”
I did all the personal upgrades and also maxed out everyones “personal” stat. Not one of the powers but the one that makes them have more HP and whatnot.
I sent Legion into the tubes and then often rushed ahead and risked my self to open the valves. I sent him becasue he can hack anything but also can handle himself in a fight.
For the first fire team i sent Garrus. he is the best leader.
For the biotic bubble Mission i took the Asari biotic and then two guys who are good with guns. I again choose Garrus to lead the fire team.
I was only abel to save the Doc but i sent her back with Grunt because he is a one Krogan Army.
I took Jack and Tali to fight the last boss.
That was my play thru as a Paragon Solider. It helped to have the extra fire power.
But i got thru with everyone and got the achievement.
Yes, it is a popular one. Looks like it is on both PC and XBox.
When talking at Ashley, saying anything should do. I’m not sure it matters. It’s impossible to win any points with her. She will still make unfair accusations. The point the player should take away from the encounter is that Ashley is very upset. Being logical will not get through to her.
Ashley is one example of a recurring theme throughout ME2. Do not be quick to judge. There’s a larger truth to be learned only if you bide your time.
ADD: Immediately after Horizon, the Illusive Man will ask if Shepard has put his/her past relationships behind him/her to focus on the mission. The three responses are evidently no (top right paragon slot), maybe (neutral middle) and yes (bottom left renegade slot). To maintain an ME1 love interest I assume the correct reply is no (Paragon), “That’s off limits.”
Once aboard the Normandy after the Horizon mission, talk to Kelly and Joker. Both will ask you how you feel about Ashley now. Admit you will still miss her. Both are Paragon responses on the wheel I think.
So that’s a total of three post-Horizon interaction decisions in quick succession that likely end or continue your ME1 love life in a future ME3 character import. If your ME1 interest was Kaiden or Ashley that is.
After Ashley cools off, she’ll write later.
(N.B. Your character must have Ashley as the love interest from the first Mass Effect.)
Thanks for the tip. I think I may have missed the Joker dialog. But, Isn’t it possible to receive the apology message if you never played ME1?
Brawler is fairly easy to get, especially on the derelict Reaper where waves of Husks come at you. I used my soldier armed with a shotgun. It really only requires working out the timing and figuring out exactly when to fire. I found it easiest to melee a husk a few times to lower it’s health a bit and immediately blasting it with the shotgun once I was done with the melee attacks. I got most of the number required on the derelict Reaper.
Or as an Infiltrator with the Widow. Reminds me of noscopin in ME1
I suck with a sniper rifle. The cross hairs are too big to be accurate and aiming while playing in real time just makes me soak damage. I take too long.
Yeah you don’t aim when going for Brawler man, no scope. Just melee a husk and then drop the hammer on um
My play thru as a Renegade continually makes my skin crawl. I am letting people die who i could easily save but thus far the worst for me was during Zaeeds loyalty mission when i had the option to save the people or let them burn. I went against all better judgment and let them burn. Then i heard people screaming in agony later and it almost made me sick. It is crazy that it makes me feel so icky playing a video game. I now dread having to play thru again once i do my ME 1 play thru. But i think i am going to wait until ME 3 comes closer. I dont think i can do it again anytime soon.
That being said it is pretty funny watching Shepard get the discounts in an uber douchey way. Also the “fish mission” on the Citadel much more fun as a Renegade
