This is a minor (I hope) bitch & moan…I need to take one of my dogs to the vet. Her gums are all inflamed. We go to a great vet practice but they are also very expensive. I’m almost afraid to find out what it’s going to cost, but my poor doggie needs to go.
Maybe just irritated? Didn’t you give them a brushing within the past few days?
I noticed it when I went to brush it last night. I hadn’t gotten around to it until then. And based on her seriously bad breath, I think she has something else going on in there. I had my best friend (a vet tech) take a look. She agreed that it looks bad enough to be seen by the vet, but she said the teeth felt solid, not loose, so that at least, is good news. I’m hoping that antibiotics, or an oral rinse will be the worst we’ll have to deal with. One side of the mouth looks definitely worse than the other. Po’ doggie.
I got that cold everyone is complaining about. I have a few hour drive tomorrow to my mom’s. I hope I do not get anyone sick.
Take the pup to the vet it will make you both happier.
Already scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning. The vet I really like is on then and since she’s eating her kibble, I decided it could wait that long. Po’ Bella…I hated to see her poor gums looking like that. I learned my lesson with my dog that passed away a few months ago not to let the teeth get out of hand.
I bet you feel better already. Good luck tomorrow.
One week before Christmas, my employer tells me that Dec. 31st will be my last day. Today starts my new job search. That is my big complaint lately.:eek::eek:
Its not all bad, at least they’re giving me two weeks.
I was not sure where else to post this, but I am looking for suggestions. Lucky for me, I do not own a home, so I can just pick up and go wherever.
I am an architectural CAD drafter and have been a job/captain and project manager during the last two years. I have 14+ years in architecture (drafting). I live in Las Vegas presently, but this place has become a wasteland as far as I am concerned. I am looking at trying my luck in Phoenix, Arizona and I am also thinking about trying back east (my father lives in Maryland). I am not sure what to do next.
Also, last July, I finished my Master’s Program at University of Phoenix majoring in Information Systems.
Anyone got any suggestions for me?
Thanks either way . . .
-Ethan
Sorry to hear that Ethan. Getting laid off is no fun. It’s happened to me twice in my life—and it wasn’t a great feeling either time. Although in retrospect both times it lead my career in a better direction than it otherwise would have gone.
With the worsening economy, I suspect the ranks of the unemployed will continue to grow unfortunately.
Let me ask you this: Are you open to other types of CAD drafting—or strictly architectural? Believe or not, the defense industry is one area where it seems like there’s still a lot of hiring going on.
Good luck with your search.
ThotFullGuy,
I would also be interested in other forms of drafting. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being in Areonautics because I really like airplanes. I used to draw BSG vipers everywhere!
I also have the IT thing going for me too, except it would be more entry level. It would be cool if I got a drafting job and worked myself into an IT position at the company.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Double Dayam!
Still, getting notice is a bit of a gift. (OK, I’m stretching here…)
My boss also gave me a letter of recommendation.
They can’t keep me, but they think I’m a great guy.
Thats how bad the drafting business has gotten here . . .
Ethan, I feel your pain. Hang in there.
Do you live near a big university that has a vet program? I have my regular vet and she is awesome but sometimes (espeically for specialist type things) we take our pugs down to Cornell Veterinary College. They have top notch vets on staff, you are helping the students get hands on experience and the costs are lower than the big specialists up in Rochester.
My bitch for the day is that I am tired of being my boss’s first line of defense against the creditors. I keep being told how this bill or that bill has been taken care of - not so much. There is a reason I cash my check at his bank each week and not deposit it at my own.
Meh. Join cranky-laid-off-workers club. My boss handed me my layoff papers and then turned in my grad school letter late. Also, I got notice on the very day that the university made public the receipt of the largest contribution in its history. Grrr.
Ok, perhaps you should be applying to join the club, too, just in case. First month is free and we throw great pity parties.
These are rough times, dude.
Yeah, I’m making the new schedule for January in hopes that I will actually use it. Luckily there is a new Lowes opeing and I might be able to get a job there when it all goes to hell.
good luck, dude
A friend I was staying with over the weekend just got laid off by his university because he was just on a term position and not in the tenure track. He got the letter telling him so on the same day he got the letter telling him that he’d passed his term review and would be promoted to the tenure track, which ended up making no difference at all.
At least he has six months to look for a job, but in our field (he’s a composer also) that might as well be a week. Merry frakking Christmas, huh?
The closest big university vet hospital is Penn and we’re 90-120 minutes away, so that would have to be for a BIG emergency or for a really unusual circumstance. (We had friends whose Corgie ate a hydrangea bulb and poisoned and almost killed himself, for instance. The doctors at Penn saved him.)
Anywho, good news is my doggie is on the mend with antibiotics. Bad news is that boxers (I have two) are prone to gum/teeth issues like this. So, I will be brushing their teeth minimum 2x a week–should be doing it every other day. Also, I purchased a tres expensive oral rinse for their gums, which was surprisingly easy to use. (Did I mention it was very expensive? faint) Plus, the antibiotic that we had to use for Bella had to be a pricey one, because it’s the one that works on oral infections. Still, this will fingers crossed keep us from having to have the dogs’ teeth cleaned yearly, which is even more expensive–what with the bloodwork and then the cost of the anesthesia plus the cleaning, we’re talking at least $300 a pop. Today’s visit was a bargain by comparison–only $134. nervous laughter
