Hopefully nothing! Sorry you’ve had a weekend full of bad news, Splatterson.
It’s all good. #3 was paying for all the flowers. Holy crap!
Dear Gods- none of us want that!
I hope there’s a way you can make it happen.
I found out right after I woke up this morning that a friend of mine was in an accident on Friday and I was too wrapped up in my own stuff to notice the emails coming in from Facebook. Bike vs. car… never good. And he’s had a stroke besides. I’m terrified.
Ouch! Here’s hoping he recovers
Found out a little more. It was Thursday night, not Friday, and he’s able to breathe on his own now. It’s hitting really hard because one of my best friends was in a similar situation and the ten-year anniversary of that is coming up in a couple of weeks, and even with everyone rallying around him, if he recovers he has a long, hard road ahead. I don’t really pray any more, but right now I’m hoping with all my heart that things line up right and he pulls through.
I know several people who have gotten into bad altercations with vehicles while riding their bikes. Most are only alive because they wore helmets. Samantha’s mom has been hit badly 3 times now so she no longer commutes by bike. It sucks.
First intentional meeting between Myri and Rodney didn’t go well. Rodney was constantly hissing at her and batted at her a couple times before I stepped in and took him back out. Time for a new plan.
That’s normal for cats. Here’s a link that will help!

I’ve been doing a lot of that. Today (after I tried having them in the same room) was the first time I shut Rodney in Myri’s room while she had run of the house instead of his own. Maybe try again tonight after they’ve hopefully calmed down a bit. I do want to do it in a small room (like a bedroom) so it’s easy to keep an eye on them.
A guy I have been attending University with recently has just been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Apparently they have caught it early and he’s going through chemo so the chances they can arrest it are good.
I’m 43 and he’s about the same age as me. Not sure how well I’d deal with it…
Some good vibes sent to Wayne would be most appreciated guys :o.
Ta,
gaf.
Keep a string toy on hand to get them distracted when the hissing starts. Playing always worked for me when adding a new cat to the family. And like I said the hissing and batting is normal. My cats used to hiss and bat at one another after they when to the vet…due to the strange smells they came home with.
I have a friend who survived a rare form of non-Hodgkins when he was in his 30’s. It was grim to go through with him but turned out well. Thinking good thoughts for your mate Wayne.
One of my young friends I know (originally on twitter but moved to tumblr) tried to kill herself tonight.
one of my (current) students passed away over the weekend. ze was 19.
My friend’s being taken off the ventilator in the morning. His organs could help a bunch of people, so I’m trying to concentrate on that, but I’m going to miss him and I can’t stand seeing everyone hurting so bad.
Hugs to everyone here. Stay safe and please watch out for bikes and motorcycles on the road.
Hugs in return. We’re here.
Well, beyond my 10 hour day, it seems like Rodney just doesn’t get that Myri isn’t as interested in wrestling around as he is. I don’t think he’s actually trying to hurt her, but she’s a lot smaller than he is and I think she’s afraid of him now. I really want this two cats thing to work, but he’s not making it easy. I was hoping to let them both have run of the house while I’m at work and Scouts Tuesday night, but I’m starting to think it’s not a good idea.
Oddly enough, I got clipped by a guy’s mirror on the way to work the day you posted this. All I got was a bruise and a huge boost of adrenaline. The guy stopped and gave me his info, made sure I was ok and i went to work. He even called the next day to see how I was doing. Faith in humanity +1. I’m a pretty hardened cyclist, but it wigged me out for a day or two.
My friend’s funeral is today. I’m trying very hard to get ready–clothes are laid out and everything–but my anxiety is getting the better of me and the only reason I haven’t locked myself in the office is I told some friends on Facebook that I’d be there for precisely this reason. Plus one of my best friends, who is stationed abroad for the next few weeks, said that she was glad I was going since she can’t. So there’s that.
Starsaber, have you tried spraying them both with some kind of body spray? I had to do that with our cats when we got Fatty. Sprayed them so they were both really confused and then fed them treats together and petted them. Eventually they got used to each other.
