iPhone Geek

I’ve been a very happy geek for about the last week as I finally got an iPhone and I have to say I’m a bit in love with it. Thanks to this I’m paying way more attention to my Myspace and Facebook pages and have actually started twittering. And thanks to Mass Effect Galaxy I’ve managed to drain the battery a time or two.

For future reference, there are ways to get the update for free if you look around on google hard enough. Such as here: http://www.techlivez.com/2009/06/upgrade-ipod-touch-firmware-to-os-30-for-free-iphone-os-30-download-links/

Thanks David! That looked interesting enough to try out for $1.99, so I’ve just bought it.

Can we expect a new thread called “Last Supper Pic of the Week” feat. Topgun’s friends, family and co-workers.

It would be interesting to see the quality difference between the 3G and 3GS.

I do like the camera, but my favorite feature of the 3G/3GS is hands down the GPS chip that lets you use an iPhone for turn by turn voice directions. If you’re willing to jailbreak, xGPS is a great app for this, but I think Tom Tom is coming out soon with a paid app that’s prettier and more polished.

Thanks Em! I will try this out when I get home!

I’m still rocking my iPhone 3G with updated firmware and a hacked SIM so i can do MMS.

Fav Apps:

Skype
Weather Channel
Woot Watch
TweetDeck
Fandango
Urban Spoon
Wikipanion
Pandora
AT&T myWireless
Exec Tweets
FML
ESPN Score Center

I’m not gonna bother listing games, but these are my fav apps, and since I have a strict policy against paying, these are all FREE apps. Check em out.

Thanks for your list, I had forgotten about Wikipanion. My short list, in addition to what is on yours:

Google for iPhone
Remote (for iTunes)
Night Stand (nice alarm clock for traveling)
Sportacular
Betty Crocker Cookbook (lots of good recipes)
USA Today
Facebook (although it’s famously missing some important features)

As for games, I still play iShoot (the pay version) like a mental patient, and I like Pocket God and Flick Fishing. Build-a-lot is fun, too. I’m about to try the free versions of Arvale and Assassin’s Creed.

Has anyone tried the Mass Effect game?

I have. I’ve already beat it. The game is a nice bridge between ME 1 and ME 2. It’s actually pretty awesome for a game on a phone. The cut scenes look awesome.

I looked for it but couldn’t find it! I’d like to play it on my Ipod touch - help a geek out.

I be downloading as we speak. And I’m $3 poorer!

Dictionary.com

Because you never know when you might need a dictionary.

Spell Number

The app itself is kind of lame, but it lets you get emoticons on your iPhone for FREE. After you download the app:

Type in 91929394.59

Exit the App

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards > Japanese

Slide Emoji to ON

You will now have an extra button on your regular keyboard to get to the emoji keyboard.

I’ll be damned, worked like a charm. Thanks AEG!

So how do you hack to do MMS? and isnt At&T going to have this ready for all iphones by summer end or something?

I just got my iphone 3g sale when the new ones came out and Its awesome…

ALright, thanks for the link. However I can’t figure this out.

You can delete the app after you’ve unlocked the keyboard without losing the keyboard.

Yeah, there’s an app for that (NSFW)

Ha! Is there a Flipping the Bird app for similar situations?
