iPhone Geek

Yep, sure can. It’s quite straightforward, but if you have trouble just ask.

Isn’t that what we’re all here for?

There is something viscerally enjoyable about Fruit Ninja. Don’t expect another Angry Birds, but it is a fun casual game nonetheless. Classic, Arcade and Zen modes for singleplayer, and two multiplayer gametypes. Slice, slice, slice!

I am waiting with little patience for a new Jailbreak so I can JB my iPad. I have the wifi model, and would very much like both the BTstack that allows it to use a Bluetooth GPS as well as the app that allows it to use Retina versions of apps when an iPad version is unavailable.

Oh yeah baby. I feel like a 21st Century Gallagher.

I’ve been getting down with the photography apps lately. Here’s my take on several noteworthy ones:

Perfect Photo: for me, the two big wins here are “Spot Healing” (touch-up tool) and “Red Eye Reduction”. Worth the $0.99 for those two alone.

Photo Studio: tons of filters and effects. You can combine several and save them as presets, and you can save favorites to more quickly find those you use more often. Note: huge application, may require you to kill other apps to run, even on an iPhone 4.

Photo Wizard: decent selection of filters and effects, but the big deal is the masking tool. With this, you can mask a section, then apply filters/effects either to the rest of the photo or only the masked section. Works pretty well, too!

Camera Genius: quick and dirty editing, filters and effects are not as plentiful as Photo Studio or Photo Wizard, but they are effective. Developer is attentive to emails and posts frequent updates/improvements.

Toon Paint: OMG, this is fun. Either choose a pic from your photo album or take a pic and wa-la! You have a basic cartoon that you can tweak and “color by numbers”! Very slick stuff going on under the hood to provide this much fun. Warning: very addictive!

Diptic: Neat way to import up to four photos and display them in a framework within a cube. You can change the color of the boundries, contrast, brightness, saturation and can pinch, pan, rotate and zoom the images. It does one basic thing, but very well.

Photogene: good basic image editing program, big feature being the ability to save in a number of different resolutions. Solid from top to bottom.

This is a small thing, but I noticed I can’t view movies in portrait mode my iPod app except when they’re in a playlist. What gives?

Do you have rotation-lock turned on? Double tap the joke button, swipe the bottom from left to right to show music controls, and check the button on the left. If it it a circle with arrow, then that’s not the problem. If it has a padlock, then tap it and try the movie again.

It’s unlocked. You try watching a video in portrait, then watch a video within a playlist in portrait.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen now. Thanks for all of the chatter about cool apps and the like, everyone!

I just ordered my iPhone yesterday on verizon! Sooooo excited  I’ve been kinda following this thread but now I’m planning to go back and figure out all the fun things that I want to add to my life, well, through my phone.

Welcome to the club, and enjoy! The iPhone is a lot of fun, and is incredibly useful for a wide variety of things.

First and foremost, of course, is three-starring all of the Angry Birds levels!

Haha. Yes! I love Angry Birds

What’s better than an iPhone? An iPhone in space.

If you think AT&T’s international roaming is expensive…

Wow, that was pretty freakin incredible!

Angry Birds, by likability.

I have no problems with this ranking.

Came across this game on Reddit: Foursight

It’s pretty clever, and oddly addictive. The instructions seem convoluted, but if you mess around with a game you’ll get it pretty quick. Essentially you have to play a white piece before you can play a game piece on top of it. Oh, and you and your opponent have half of each others pieces to play. Get three or four in a row to score.

Currently it’s one player on the iPhone, although bluetooth and internet head-to-head is coming. On the iPad you have the option of using it like a boardgame for two player action.

White bomb bird gets a raw deal, IMHO. :eyebrow:

Hrm. Yeah, I’d probably swap that one with the MIRV bird.
