Can’t wait to update my first generation iPhone!
…oh, right.
Can’t wait to update my first generation iPhone!
…oh, right.
Backing up the iPod Touch is taking FOREVER.
Woe, if it isn’t finished til lunch!!
Same here with my soon-to-be-replaced 3G. I was interested in playing around with iOS4 before I got my iPhone 4, but I guess I’m going to wait.
I updated my wife’s 3GS, looks pretty sharp. One surprising failure: Voicemail stopped working! Instead of visual voicemail, it was trying to call old-fashioned voicemail, turns out it deleted the stored password. Since we had never configured a password for voicemail, she had to ‘reset’ it via 611 to fix it.
Just a note to those of you considering the upgrade: If you haven’t already done so, make sure you remove any cache of photos in the camera roll first. You can always sync them back to the iPhone via iPhoto, but if you leave ‘em in the camera roll they’ll get backed up – and cause the backup to take freakin’ forever.
Besides voicemail, you’ll also want to check your mail accounts and any apps that store passwords to make sure all the connect info is still there.
And I had one weird glitch after the upgrade: Mail wasn’t displaying the message body. A restart corrected it, though.
Strangely enough, this has been the smoothest upgrade I’ve ever done on an iPhone. Weird.
Just got my iphone 4…woot
Let’s hear about sweet iPhone augmented reality apps. Star Walk and the easter egg in Yelp are freakin’ awesome with a side of SWEET.
Cute girl + cute song + funny zombie designer guy = WIN.
I had my iPhone 4 delivered on the 23rd, and aside from the unforgivable antenna attenuation design flaw (that’s right, design flaw) that should COMPEL Apple to issue free bumpers to every iPhone 4 owner, this is one sweet phone. It really feels more like a mini-computer than my previous 3G did, probably because it’s so fast in comparison.
I don’t like the multi-tasking implementation forcing app developers to write specifically for it, but I’ll be patient and wait, just as Apple was betting I would. Also (if you purchase it), iMovie has a very arcane interface, but there is certainly $5 worth of power under the hood once you figure it out (with the help of an Apple support FAQ: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4174)
I do like everything else, and quite a bit. The display is creamy goodness, so razor sharp and crystal clear. It’s a very noticeable improvement, the best LCD screen I’ve ever seen. Did I mention it is fast? It is. Very fast. The 5 mp camera and flash work as advertised for both static pictures and video, even in low-light (although my Flip video is arguably still the champ for low-light video). Facetime works nicely, and I’ll be interested to see if it picks up some steam as Apple phases it in over the iPod touch (you know they will) and even, perhaps, in iChat on the Mac. Right now it’s a novelty, but a nicely designed one.
The front-facing camera is set up perfectly for Facetime as well, with a focal length approximating an arms-length away from you. I don’t know what the megapixel count is, but it LOOKS like it’s about two, which is more than enough for webcamming.
Folders are a MUCH needed addition, and they work well. The max of 12 apps per folder is a little spartan, but it’s easy to work around. I only have three pages of apps now, which makes me very happy.
I love the ability to lock the display into portrait orientation across all apps! One caveat: I wish I could exclude apps from that, like when I view landscape pictures or videos.
Hype aside, this is one exceptional phone/pocket computer. I can’t imagine anyone not thoroughly enjoying using this device.
Now, back to trying to three-star the new levels in Angry Birds…
640x480= .3 megapixel
Thank you. I wasn’t sure what the resolution was. In any event, I was way off in mp count. Picture quality is still just fine for the web.
I upgraded to iOS 4 today, and for the 3rd straight OS update it failed and forced me to re-sync my entire media library. This is pretty ridiculous, and one of many reasons I plan on making the switch to Android for my next phone. At least with the EVO, my media would stay on a micro SD card and an OS update wouldn’t result in my media being deleted.
My wife has been facetiming me in the morning when she wakes up, I respond by having the dogs face on the screen everytime.
I found a couple new awesome features in iOS 4:
Was that on an older 3g or 3gs? or is that a 4
It’s a 3GS.
Have you had any Better luck with your 3Gs? Sorry couldn’t get back to you sooner navy bs came up
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A federal judge says a monopoly abuse lawsuit against Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc.'s mobile phone unit can move forward as a class action.
The lawsuit consolidates several filed by iPhone buyers starting in late 2007, a few months after the first generation of Apple’s smart phone went on sale.
