Some nice news apps:

Newsy - aggregates top news stories from a decent number of sources and gives them to you in a very cool presentation layer that includes video and transcript formats. You can easily share stories via Facebook or Twitter, or even email.

Engadget - all the geek device news you need in a slick app that runs like BUTTAH. It quickly became a favorite.

Huffington Post - nice all-around news app, nice presentation and functionality. You can save entries, move sections around and more. Loaded with content.

Also, a fun podcast for Mac geeks is “Mac OS Ken”. Ken Ray does a great job of bringing Mac news to you with his humorous, snarky delivery. I don’t recommend his $2.99 app (awful piece of programming), but I do recommend downloading his free podcast.

Finally! Jailbreaking my iPhone 4 with the just released one. It’s pretty sharp, I just visited jailbreakme.com in Safari on my phone and it was able to JB it from there.

If you do it, back up your phone in iTunes first obviously. w00t! I’m getting my apps back!

Nice! I always find it amazing how fast these things get re-cracked. I’ve known for a while how to jailbreak an iPhone, though I’m a bit ignorant as to what extra functionality or apps people are using once they’ve jailbroken their device.

TS: What apps or addons do you use that aren’t from the Apple App Store?

What he said cause I jailbroke mine and now I dunno what to do with it lol

The great thing about jailbreak is that I can do stuff Apple or AT&T don’t like.

*iLocalis - I can track my phone anywhere if it gets lost, no need to spend $100 a year for MobileMe. Plus, it updates my Google Latitude automatically, which is nice. Finally, I can have my phone mail me a recording of anything happening nearby it if I’ve lost it. So GPS gets me to the building then audio lets me know what’s happening nearby it for instance.
*My3G tricks apps into thinking they’re on WiFi, so I can potentially use facetime if I’ve got a good enough 3G.
*MyWi turns my phone into a secured wireless access point so I can use it as a tether for my devices out on the road if I need it. No monthly fee.

  • I have a replacement SMS program with which I can send messages while in other programs. It opens as a window. Slightly less improved now in 4.0 than previously because of the task switching, but still great.

Go launch Cydia and start browsing stuff, it’s a whole new app store.

All sorts of great stuff!

NES Ringtones. Free. (also available for non-iPhone types.)

This is the greatest thing ever. Thank you for sharing.

Picked up Civilization Revolutions for the iPhone yesterday and lost about 24 hours to it. It’s digital crack.

I saw it was free (don’t know how long that will last), downloaded it immediately, setting aside some time this coming weekend to play. It looks good! Any tips?

Thanks for making us aware on that offer.

Do you get a newsletter or RSS feed that informs you of such specials??

Oh, I didn’t even realize it was still on special. A friend who’s a heavy gamer told me about it.

There’s an easy RTS time-waster called “Highborn” out there that is written in good humor and even mentions “The Guild”. There is both a single player campaign and online play, player-to-player chat. Fun stuff.

Because every computing device I have needs to have a nice aquarium app or screensaver:

Tropical Aquarium and it’s sister app, MyReef3D Aquarium are just stunningly beautiful and fun to watch. Tropical Aquarium is $0.99, and you can (and should) upgrade to Premium via an in-app purchase of $0.99. MyReef 3D Aquarium is $2.99. I believe there’s a free version out there to try first, if you like.

iphone 4 jailbreak: so easy, you can even do it at the apple store

Not any more tho, recent patches have closed this loop and I am sure the Apple stores all updated rather promptly.

Anyone recommend a good photo editing program on the iPhone? I recently picked up Pano which is an awesome photo stiching app to make panoramic shots. The only problem is that occasionally I want to rotate the picture so it looks right on my phone and I can email it right side up.

So that is the only function I need, to rotate the pic. I suppose other photo editing features would be good as well.

I haven’t really used it much, so I can’t speak to its merits, but Adobe Photoshop Express is free. Can’t beat the price.
