That’s the best take on the whole event.
I wouldn’t go that far. I think that the majority of the protesters have NO idea how bad a world without finance industry would be, or have any idea what they REALLY want. NPR’s Planet Money had a great episode on that last week, actually.
But in terms of the problems stemming from the effects of money from the financial sector infused deeply, perhaps inextricably, throughout our political system–the OWS crowd has a point. Yeah, lots of them are silly young radicals, but young people of all stripes feel like our future has been robbed and no matter how hard we work from here on out, everything is a crap shoot. This protest/series of protests isn’t going to change everything. But it could be a start. Who knows?
