How many “everyone” is varies. First year it was like 70 people for the live podcast. Last year prolly about 40 to 50. I don’t think anyone will know an approximate number until Chuck starts posting about events that need an RSVP, like dinner on Saturday night…etc.
It’s small, it’s friendly, it’s fun and it’s relaxed. It’s a gathering of friends for a live podcast, hanging out at the pub (Irish Rover) or the hotel, going to see local attractions, a nice dinner together. Stuff and junk like that.
It’s not a con type event…only the live podcast is done one of the hotel’s meeting rooms. No panels, no guests other than ourselves. Of course it you know any Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Geek celebrities…invite them! We’d welcome them just like a GWCer! Okay, maybe we’d fanboi/gurl out on them a bit but…
Of course this is MY take on the meetups so far and I’ve been to the first 2. Other’s mileage may vary.
As Gryper said it does vary - even depending on what part of the weekend you are talking about.
Most of us arrived on Thursday last year. Most went to dinner and then hung out in either rooms or the lobby bar.
Friday afternoon as every one filters in (those that weren’t there already) we normally head to The Rover - a local pub that is very accommodating - we rearranged the tables last year. Friday night has the podcast and the hanging out in the bar afterwards is normally the biggest at 30-40 last year. Last year we didn’t watch anything - it was a very free form podcast.
Saturday morning, if you are up for it, normally has a trip hosted by Audra - last year it was to the art museum, the year before to the Grassy Knoll and Book Depository (where JFK was shot). I don’t normally go - I just chill with those who either didn’t wake up early enough, or didn’t want to go. The afternoon we normally head to The Rover - in past years we had a TV and video games as well as board games. On Saturday evening we go out a restaurant (the food is heavenly), and last year we all went back to Chuck and Audra’s.
On Sunday we normally go out to brunch. Last year we went to a Irish Pub in Dallas. People had to leave through out the day. As a last minute thing Chuck and Audra invited us all back to the house to hang out and Chuck cooked us burgers and we all just hung out. Iron Man was watched.
Those that were left headed to the airport on Monday.
Each year is different, so the above may or may not happen this year. I am sure Chuck, Audra and Sean will announce the plan as we get closer to March.
Honestly I have meet up with just one GWCer and had as much fun as 20 or 30 of us together - we may not all like the exact same things, but we can normally find lots of things to talk about/discuss.
GASP! Bieber will be there! But that means that I might lost the Best Lesbian Hair Award. <Grumps>
oh, ps, what is the name of the new Nicole? I need to call tomorrow to reserve a room.
Hotel and rental car booked!
I arrive on Thursday 3/17 at 3:45 p.m. and fly out on Monday 3/21 at 9:30.
So exited…!
Welllll, my wife and I did drive down from Vancouver to Louisana and then to Dallas when we moved in 2009…
But yes, very happy lol.
 if my wife had to spend 1200 hours in the car with me like that i don’t know if i would have survived
I was just looking up info on Aloft Hotels and it’s looks killer!
One thing though, the bathroom stuff is made by the “[i]Bliss/i Bath Spa” company
…so can I expect something like this?
I think the only reason I survived was because we both ended up directing our scorn towards our two cats that simply would NOT shut up the entire time.
5 days… of constant meowing… the horror…

So who did you talk to at the hotel to make the reservation? I’d like to call this week. Thanks!
I’m posting for the first time on the forum to say that I will (for the the first time) be coming to the meetup. Yay!
Thing is, I will be visiting family in town as well, so my time will be split and I won’t be staying at the hotel. Is this a serious faux pas on my part?
Welcome to the forum Scopehound. And no problem staying somewhere else. You’ll just have to make sure you get the information packet from Chuck so you have the list of events, times and locations w/addresses so you can come to as many as you have time for.
I may be just a tad premature in saying this…but…I may officially shed my title as “world’s worst forum contributor” to try and make this event. Possibly. Hopefully. If I don’t continue the current trend of negative karma. Come to think of it, this sort of hullabaloo ma be the sort of twist needed to flip from yang back to ying. (Or is it visa versa?) Arrrgh…
keir,
I was concerned about attending the met up myself, I’m not yet sure I feel “part” of the community but I’ve been assured, on a long skype call with a meet up attendee that everyone is welcome, it’s a fun and open community.
come along, we’re friendly.

I screwed up, i screwed up BIG TIME.
Turns out I only reserved four nights at the aloft, even though i’m not flying out until tuesday.
I rang the aloft to try and extend and the hotel is full!!
panic panic panic panic panic
pleeeease help I will try and contact DElta and see if i can move my flight to the monday and also see about somewhere else to stay but
heeeeeeeelllllllllllllllp
Alan
I would say there are lots of other places to stay in the area if a room doesn’t open up at the Aloft. I would suck to have to change hotels, but I don’t think you will have a problem finding another room.
Of course there is also seeing if you can change your flight without too much hassle.
