Ok, thank you for the clarification, I knew I didn’t have all the details correct. But I still find Baltar’s disturbance in the temple somewhat familiar to the Jesus story. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up dead in an upcoming episode. Instead of being crucified, he’ll probably just get “locked” by someone or something.
By the way, I totally agree that the chief loved Boomer and he settled for Callie. Not because he didn’t love Callie but because Boomer was dead, and he had just savagely beat Callie and he felt overwhelming guilt about it. Sometimes when life is getting really craaapppy you start to look at things in a different light, like, “maybe this is the best I can do right now…”. That being said, I do think the Chief loved Callie very much, just more in a taking care of way and not so much in a heart and soul way.
On the issue of Baltar’s “God loves you” speach, If you ever listen to some of early morning TV evangilists talk, they say the same thing in almost the same way. So if you are wondering how anyone can follow a person that gives that kind of narcicistic speach, a lot of people do, just as there are a lot of people that would join the Sons of Ares. There is something about Baltar’s followers, in the same way that the people that can’t handle money go for all of those get rich quick schemes while people that know how to make money wouldn’t touch those schemes (Except to start them…)
Man, it was a blast being able to laugh about this episode - after I watched it, I thought, okay, I can either be depressed or have fun with stuff like the Balcu-guy.
I still think Gaeta looked kind of sexy with his stubble in the preview for the next episode…
Lol. Bet she never saw that one comin’!
clickclickboom, love the avatar.
Wow; I’m really impressed with the strong arguments on all sides of this issue. But what you’ve said here, Doc, has made me reconsider my view of the Tyrols’ marriage. I still think it’s true that Chief was more physically passionate about Boomer, but you’re right that it’s not enough in the long run. I don’t think I ever doubted that the Chief loved Cally, and I don’t believe he married her mostly out of guilt as some have said. But I do think he loved her in that semi-platonic way rather than say, the way Baltar loves Caprica Six.
Troi, I wish I could be as succinct as you when talking about these issues! Nicely said. And I agree, Chief gets a pass.
Thanks for the info! I’ve been wondering for a while about all of that.
Yes!! Thank you!! I was thinking of the Soggy Bottom Boys from the movie who sang that tune.
Sorry I know I’m little slow on the reply but I just became a Forum user here.
I thought the whole Chief Tyrols’s Verbal tussel with Adama was very simple to see why he was bashing Caly… Look back when you dated a girl or someone and you break up. Usealy when your the one that got dumped you are pretty pissed off but it’s more because you have such feelings for this person and you feel a bit betrayed and left behind but you still love them and it hurts it has to all change now. Tyrol is drunk… and he is talking to Adama (a father figure to him) he is venting on why he is angry at Cally for Taking her life (so he thinks) and leaveing him behind with the baby. I know he would Love to have Cally back for sure and no doubt he still has love for her and always has. Only mentiond the “settleing for cally” thing because it’s just like after you break up with your Girl you say to your self “I should have never gone on those dates with her and I would have never be here and feeling this bad/upset” I think Adama Reacted a little over the top. Tyrol was drunk, (he knew it) he just lost his Frakking wife and is just letting off steam to someone who knew both Cally and him very well. I agree You should Honor and remeber someones memory but with all those Factors being in there I think Adama should have just been understanding. Figure Tyrol would have come around at some point after Grieveing like everyone does, But instead he sees his Ego being damaged a bit in front of drunk crew members and Demotes him… Also Tyrol didn’t mean to get Demoted, you saw his face he was actully upset it just happened.
Correction to Audra:I believe in this podcast (i might be wrong) Audra mentioned the Civil rights movement-and said its Civil disobedience. Thats not true. Theres a general consensus around the philisophical community that because it wasnt a true democracy, and Blacks/Women were not allowed to vote, it is not civil disobedience. The option to vote was severly restiricted, and so it wasnt CD. to commit CD you must be able to participate in the voting process, and so the civil rights movement wasnt CD.
