New BSG four weeks in a row? Scary! Escape Velocity asked many questions and offered few answer — thought lots of clues. Highlights: we enjoy seeing Kate Vernon back on set (and struggle to determine whether Tigh is projecting her or whether Caprica Six is projecting her), re-open the is-Head-Six-real debate with new evidence, discuss Chief’s newly-expressed issues with Cally, take a variety of Cally-hater calls (and question whether she really smells like cabbage), listed to Chuck agree that Tory is bent, wonder where the S&M/pleasure is pain is learning theme will take us this season, ponder Lee’s future as politician (and maybe president), try to divine what’ll happen next week on the grand poo barge, and offer an early preview of national Talk Like A Pirate Day. Don’t forget the GWC Meetup this Friday in San Francisco plus meetups in NYC, Dallas, and elsewhere soon. Check the GWC Forum for details.
EDIT: I know it would be crazy at this point but wouldn’t it be cool to get a list of all the great quotes the GWC crew has put out there. So far, I’m listening to #97 and Audra says, “(Lee’s got) 1980s just for men hair” 26:17. I have to stop the podcast and call the emergency room…my spleen flew out of my body.
Just downloading the podcast now, haven’t listened to it yet. But that Audra quote might be next up in for a spot in my signature. Thanks for warning. I was almost going to listen to the podcast here in my computer room, which is next to kids’ rooms. But perhaps I should go downstairs, lest my uproarious laughter wakes up my sleeping children …due to sounds of my spleen flying around.
Those that cannot adapt to the new situation that is i feel coming (the merging of humans and cylons into something new…and hopefully better) will be just pushed aside be the wave of History and will disappear . That has alwats been the way in our own world, and so it must be also in the GalacticaVerse.
Go with the flow of evolution…or drown trying to swim up-current
Arrrgh! I haven’t been able to listen because my iPod took a weeks vacation inside my washing machine (stuck in the rubber seal) and went through about 10 loads of laundry, including a sanitize cycle! It was NOT pretty when it finally unwedged itself from the rubber seal and we found it in the washer.
I’ve been outside doing yard work galore and haven’t had time to sit in the office to listen. The good news is that my new nano is on its way and I’ll get caught up soon!
I’m not finished with the podcast yet, but the part about the different books Adama might be reading…I think my neighbor thought I was having a siezure, I was laughing so hard.
Just finished listening to it a little while ago… It was awesome hearing you mention a whole bunch of stuff that my sis and I noticed as we were watching! That dude amongst the balcubines… the mancubine, balcuman, or whatever he is… I didn’t think anybody else would notice him! We were making fun of him throughout the episode lol.
Also, just gotta love Tigh’s “I don’t wanna hear about the fragile body of Gaius frakking Baltar!” Good call! You guys pick up on everything, plus a bunch of stuff I hadn’t even considered.
As for the question about why Tigh and Six were suddenly really into S&M, I’ve got a half-baked theory:
Tigh is sort of doing what Adama did in “Unfinished Business” by letting someone he hurt beat the craaaap out of him to make things right, although unlike Adama, Tigh’s not doing it to make a broader point. Tigh feels guilty about killing Ellen, he sees/projects Ellen in conjunction with Six, and so on some level, he wants to be punished by Ellen for what he did to her. Call it “The Passion of the Tigh,” I guess.
As for Six, as per usual with Cylons, she’s got a decent idea of what human pain and guilt and emotion are but doesn’t quite know how to apply that knowledge in the best way all the time. From what she was saying before the beatdown, it seemed like she saw pain as a form of penance but also as something akin to what Audra was talking about a few 'casts ago with “A Good Man is Hard to Find”: she thinks people learn a lot about themselves when they’ve got the proverbial gun to their heads. Which they do, but it’s not exactly appropriate for this situation. It takes her awhile to figure that out, and then she changes tactics.
As to why kissing Tigh is a good tactic, I’m stumped on that one.
Kappa you are all over this episode, I think you’re exactly right !!
And the kiss…gross, all that blood…I’m stumped too, as well as a bit weirded out in anticipation of some HOT Six on Tigh Action.
Aw, shucks :o. Thanks for all the lovely comments. I have no idea why a pain/inner demons/S&M-themed episode is resonating so much with me. I’m actually a very happy, normal, well-adjusted human being in real life, honest!
Yeah, he looks so lost! There’s one other guy (other than Lee) in the big speech scene at the end who looks even more out-of-place, if that’s possible; I think he’s wearing a suit.
Wow, if you’re going to kill an iPod, losing it in the washer and having it go go through 10 loads of laundry will definately break it good. RIP old iPod, long live your new Nano.
You could see it on Tigh’s face, he was enjoying seeing his Ellen talk about how much she loved him… until Baltar’s name came up and destroyed that projection fantasy and completely soiled his mind, forcing him to think about Ellen&Baltar together!
You have to remember, Six has three main roles in the cylon force, she is the tank (she’s can certainly take a punch or two and she’s gotten into more hand to hand combat than any other model), she is able to covertly slip into any role and cause MASSIVE damage to humanity (she was the main player, instrumental in the genocide of humanity, as Shelly Godfried she sewed the seeds of doubt in the fleet about Baltar, she infiltrated Cain’s trust [and her bed] and in the end, it was Gina that killed Cane)…
BUT Six is ALSO the seductress model for the cylons and that’s what she’s really excelled in for the length of the entire series. How many different people has she kissed in this series? Well, let’s try and list them:
Guy on space station just before it went boom to start the mini series
Baltar many many times (as Caprica Six, Head Six AND Gina)
Helo (back in S1 when he was on Caprica)
Adama (Shelly Godfreid)
#3 D’Anna (ok, we don’t actually SEE this onscreen, but we’ve seen the two in bed together with Baltar (holy trilogy? unholy trilogy?), so I’ll count this one… and imagining it is a lot of fun to… but that’s neither here nor there…)
OK, I think I’m back, where was I? Oh yeah, the list, sorry about that.
Cain (in Razor)
Tigh (after pummeling him in the face)
Did I miss anybody? I’m not counting all the rest of the Pegasus crew since she didn’t kiss them, they raped Gina.
MAN, this girl is GOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooood. Without Six, the cylons would still be scheming against BILLIONS of humans, the only thing I can think of is that their “plan” is just to set Six lose and wait and see what destruction she can bring! That’s all I got.
