Ok, I’ve got to disagree with you guys about Max Headroom: 20 Minutes Into The Future. It really was a show before it’s time, and probably failed because people could only think of those aweful New Coke commercials when you mentioned the name.
Like a previous poster mentioned, Max Headroom had Blipverts (30 seconds of commercial jammed into a couple of seconds to keep viewers from changing channels), and Network 23, which could tell exactly how many viewers they had by the second. It had the biggest advertiser on Network 23, the Zig-Zak corportion, it even had an episode where some evil corporation was picking up homeless people and stealing their dreams for entertainment (much like Strange Days, but with dreams). You want Sci-Fi, watch Max Headroom. I bet if you gave it another chance, you’d see it differently today. The computer generated Max Headroom was a bit annoying, but it really didn’t have a lot to do with the show. The show was about Network 23 ace reporter Edison Carter, and how he uncovered mostly hi-tech hi-jinx, along with his controller, Theora Jones (played by the very hot Amanda Pays).
While Max isn’t available on DVD, I have the LaserDisc of the British movie version, which is almost identical to the Amercian pilot with the Blipverts (I’ve captured it and put it to DVD). If one looks hard enough, they can also find all the Max episodes in Divx format on the web…
Oh, and Reboot can easily be found the same way. Great show! I’m currently trying to purchase so of the reboot action figures on ebay, but they aren’t cheap!

Pike you rock!
I would like to nominate that Pike be elevated (to co-lead with DanTheLordofKobol of course) to the rank of “Lord of Kobol.”
Actually, I have the “Order of Kobol” from another site, so I’m good
DtLoK has my full support in your nomination, though.

Boxy - can we just call you “wee-bol” for short?
Seriously, though, you crack me up!
Thank you Jayhawk and everyone else who is giving Max Headroom some much-deserved love! Sheesh, I could hardly believe my ears hearing the GWCers dismiss poor old Max so readily! It really was something, in 1984 or so, to see a network TV show blatatly criticizing network television. The blipverts was a masterful plot device. The social critique potential of science fiction at one of its best moments. I also remember really enjoying W. Morgan Sheppard’s portrayal of Blank Reg, and I thought Edison’s controller (Fiona?) was really purty. <g> I hope that show gets a much-deserved DVD release one day. Then we can have a GWC sponsored rewatch and discuss why Chuck, Audra, and Sean are WRONG WRONG WRONG on this one. (Said with all affection for you guys!)
As for what the president does by defintion being legal: our new attorney general made a very similar argument during his confirmation hearings (,http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/23/opinion/23rubenfeld.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin) What is happening to our Constitution? I see things like this and realize exactly how, as RDM has said, Laura Roslin is in many ways an analogue of George W. Bush. The difference being, Roslin presumably enjoys higher opinion poll numbers. Nevertheless, the principle is the same – violating the law in the name of “defense” – and it is still wrong, unless we are to be a people no longer under the rule of law.
Wait…does that make Boxy a Wee-bol Wob-ble?
I meant to say, also: I missed the poll you guys mentioned, but I think I am most like Chuck, fwiw.
ok
possibly
AMEN! Max Headroom is a great show, and I can’t wait for the day I can watch them all on DVD as well!

Oh. My. Word. This just works, ya know?
snerk
that’s all
Come to think of it, if you count Kara as either a Cylon or having been dead, every sexual relationship except Dee/Lee and Lee/prostitute (well, and Baltar and the “hot and cold running interns”…) on BSG either 1) has at least one partner a Cylon or 2) at least one partner has died, and as if that wasn’t angsty enough, most relationships involve a combination of the two. Weird.
Either the writers really love frakking with all the characters’ heads on a very personal level, or they’ve been reading too much Freud…
so… did you guys know that Nana Visitor (Major Kira from DS9) was going to be making a guest appearance on BSG when you recorded this podcast?!?
I didn’t but I just found out that she is listed on IMDB as Emily Kowlski… in season 4 ep8…
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000684/
so was this news that I just hadn’t heard about or was it just a really huge coincidence that you guys brought her up?
and the real big question here is “will she be a tillium miner?”
This is an awesome bit of casting by the show, it would be nice if whatever kind of character she plays, she is a recurring one, She was one of my favorite characters on DS9.
I read somewhere (can’t find the article now) that Visitor will be playing a cancer patient who Roslin meets while undergoing treatment.
Found one of the articles I’d read:

Um, is my geek card in jeopardy if I admit that getting props in the 'cast made my week? I’m listening to #76 the other night and all the sudden I’m like “Honey - they said my name on GWC!!!” Of course, that got the “What are you smoking?” reaction from my husband. I haven’t issued him his geek card yet - his application was incomplete. Now if they made one of those for geeks who like naval watercraft and aircraft, his would be solid gold!
Anyway, thanks to Chuck, Audra, and Reverend Sean for the best podcast around!!
Audra - thanks for setting Sean straight. I don’t think I’m ready to be splatterson65.
