Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!!
Thank you for that excellent series Stroogie/Glimfeather.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the denizens of the forum who are found within US jurisdiction. Please be gentle to the folks in any retail establishment(s) you might frequent this Friday.
For the record: I don’t really go for mob movies either (I haven’t even seen more than a few minutes of Goodfellas or Casino, for instance, and only recently got into The Sopranos, mostly because of character development and story structure), but The Godfather really transcends the genre (and, really, defines the modern “mob movie,” doesn’t it? On an interesting and disturbing note: membership and interest in organized crime was actually diminishing significantly in the U.S. before The Godfather was released. The movie helped to revive at least New York’s dwindling crime families).
So say we all! Those were a riot, man.
dude you were probably not reading shakespear in English class before i was born
I avidly watched The Sopranos season 1 on DVD a while back myself. Thoroughly enjoyed it, mainly due to the character development, like you said. I’m also a big fan of Goodfellas, so go figure. Maybe I feel that those two stories do less to glamorous organized crime than does The Godfather. Henry Hill enters the mob world all gooey-eyed and ends up strung out and paranoid. Scorsese does those wreck-of-a-human-being stories really well, I think (which is why I love Raging Bull, too).
“Are you frakkin’ my wife?!” Sorry…Stream of consciousness got outta control, there.
That is so very, very sweet. Well done!
On a related note, I’m taking up a collection to buy more mice.
LOL!!! that is awesome!!! Just me and my homie!!! Brings a tear to the eye
I’ve been hunting the little frakker for days, ever since he scurried across my kitchen counter. Last night when I plopped down on the sofa to read, he popped out of my book bag and ran past my leg. I looked for some of those traps that just catch the mouse and let you release 'em, but every place I’ve gone is out of traps altogether (sounds like something out of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds”, 'cept with mice). I had to settle for some D-Con with peanut butter, but at least they’re the kind you throw out without having to see the dead little bugger.
Great series of pics! Happy Thanksgiving to you too…and everyone else on the GWC!
“I am your wife. That’s right, I am your wife and I’m fraggin’ her.”
(Sorry, little Eddie Izzard there.)
Yeah, The Sopranos is especially neutral. When it seems to glamorize crime, you get some picture of a wreck (like Christopher) and Tony is never a wholly sympathetic character, even though we root for him. It’s downright Shakesperean that.
Special props for any Eddie Izzard reference.
