GWC Podcast #72

In this massive last-before-new-content podcast we tackle the re-watch episode Exodus, Part 1 and the final ’sode. Plus, we take a frakton of listener calls as promised. Highlights: we note how the first half of Exodus is just a big lead-up to the explosive second half, wonder why the Oracle and Hera don’t blow up the way we thought they would last time ’round, clarify skeevy vs. creepy vs. disturbing (read: Cavil, Doral, Leoben), appreciate Athena’s good shooting (for a Cylon, too!), consider the possibility that the Cylon in the museum case might be Larry, show our supoort for the writers’ strike, plead for a finale to Sean’s higher education, and try to remember the original Bionic Woman’s sleep number.

Sean talked about always thinking that Adama was a war-grizzled soldier and he only had one traumatic experience with the Cylon war. (not counting seeing Columbia blow up and his girlfriend blown up)

I remember it mentioned (maybe in the episode Hero) that the military did fight battles within the colonies. Something about a rogue colony that always caused trouble…

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that both Adama and Tighe probably fought and gained the most experience against other colonials.

This is a good point. In “Colonial Day” we found out that the Articles of Colonization were only signed 50 years before (ten years before the first Cylon war). So the society that our “gang” sprung from was only a unified society for a short time before it was decimated. It’s fair to think, then, that there was a great deal of fighting between them in that process, perhaps even after the articles were signed (as evidenced by the existence of people like Tom Zarek).

And I seem to remember something about a rogue colony as well, but can’t remember in which espisode it was mentioned (though I seem to remember Dualla saying something about that, though I may be thinking of her conversation with Billy in “Bastille Day” regarding whether Zarek was a “freedom fighter” or a “butcher”).

One question answered: Who did James Earl Jones play Othello against? From James Earl Jones’ bio

“In 1981, Jones again starred as Othello opposite Christopher Plummer”

ps: Where’s my geek card?

Don’t listen to Sean. SG-1 > Atlantis > The Muppet Show > Farscape

Sean, john crightons pistol in farscape is named “Winona”.

that is all.

PIke made an error in his post the correct order is:
Farscape > SG-1 > Atlantis > The Muppet Show

I loved Farscape, even though I got a bad vibe from the first episode I saw. Some station other than Skiffy was trying to promote the show, and the episode that they selected was one that had generic Sci.Fi. plot written all over it. Despite that, I watched the first episode on Skiffy and thought it was a heck of a lot better written on average then anything else on any other network. So I satyed with it and really enjoyed it. I consider it to be one of my top five favorite Sci.Fi. shows of all time.

So in starting to work my way through the podcast, two things come to mind:

  1. You’re raggin’ on James Caan? James Caan? Sonny Corleone is not as cool as his kid? Come on!

  2. I’m glad you think I deserve New York winters, Audra. I’ve found that you know it’s a New York winter when you go outside to clear out your car in the morning and you see the spirit of an old man telling you that “you must go to the Dagobah system.” I don’t know WHAT that’s about!

And if not Sonny Corleone, certainly Jonathan E is much cooler! After all, he is the greatest Rollerballer ever!

Hey, my dad’s name is Lance (he was named in the 50s). My middle name’s Lance, too (I was named at the tail end of the 70s.).

wrong
dont listen to him but

SG-1 > Atlantis > The Muppet Show = Farscape

I was so glad to hear the Farscape love! It’s definitely worth checking out.

Also, who ever called in with the “Mad World” cover? Brilliant.

The real name of the spinywheel ship is spacepark intersun Ring Liner. Ps I am 12.

The “big hairs” were the Centauri. The size of the hair represented their status in society. I have a Centauri wig somewhere around here.
The Minbari were bald, with ridges.

I can has geek token now?

Yorick that’s AWESOME!! LOL

Some of Tigh’s grisliness came from the time he was on a ship that was boarded by the Cylons which resulted in passageway to passageway hand-to-hand combat. The survivors were rescued…and that ship was attacked in a similar matter.

I have a question. How come Adama remember what he had seen when he learned that Cylon’s look like people? I am going to guess they are going to bring it up in Razor or Season 4.

It’s more about passing the love on to the next generation. And I’ve never seen The Godfather.

PS: Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

<gurggle>, <cough>, <sputter>, <cough> — WHAT??? You never saw the Godfather? It’s a classic! Mind you, I only think that it is a good movie not a great movie, but you really should see Godfather 1 and 2, if only to learn the cinematic cultural references that the movie brings to our society. It’s like studying Shakespeare and not reading Hamlet.
Just rent, don’t buy, and don’t bother with 3.

P.S. Do I sound too much like an English teacher?
