GWC Podcast #160: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Lucky – Thanks for the sweet Enterprise pic! I saw the model back when it was hanging from the ceiling in the museum on the mall, but it is even more impressive in this setting. Wow!

If it’s in the original vinyl envelope, you have quite the collectible there. I have the book, but not with the original packaging.

It was the last Star Trek film score to be nominated for an Academy Award.

You mean the black vinyl cover with the gold typeface? Yes. It’s pretty well used. But I think mine is extra valuable because the color page is upside down.

Is that the real USS Enterprise (CVN-65) in the movie? My dad and I built a pretty big model of the Enterprise when I was a kid and the island looked different.

Ooh, I think I know this one! I think the ship in the film was actually the Ranger, relabelled to be the Enterprise for obvious reasons.

Do you mean this one?

That’s it my Trek Courtesan friend!!

I’ll take a pic of mine later.
Stuck inisde the manual, I also found an awesome sketch of a bunch of star ships I did when I was maybe 13 or 14 years old.

Do you mean the “Uniform Color” page?

There was a really sweet story that ran in Starlog an age ago, about a girl at a con who thought that the reference was to duty uniforms, and not uniformity of colors.

Yup the “Uniform Color Code” page is upside down in mine.

When I was a kid I thot exactly that: that “Uniform” meant the uniform colors.

My obsession gets worse.

So did I. Part of the reason I remember that story is that it explained the term to me.

Did a search, but all I could find was an earlier reference that I made here on the forums.

Um, Leah, this is kinda an awkward question, but do you think your husband would have a problem with me moving in with ya?
I like your house.

Leah – I love it! I got Takei’s autograph once, too – such a genuinely nice man. He so sincerely thanked me for my support of “Star Trek,” I just about went into orbit.

I’ve said many times before that Doohan was a hell of a guy. Wish I had thought to bring my TM with me, but then I didn’t realize there’d be autographs.

Somewhere, I’ve got an autographed picture of Majel Barret that she autographed at a Trek convention in Manchester.
And I totally flirted with her even though I was half her age.

seething with envy

I started in my youth to get autographs in my TM and then as an adult took it to any convention I went to. I am saddened by how many of the cast has passed on. I have not been to a convention in years.

This is my office and toy room. Will you pay rent? We could use the money. When get a chance I will take pictures of the other side of the room with the Next Generation uncut trading cards, signed pictures and communicator pins. Oh I am such a geek.

You’re going to start a bidding war.

I like the Trade Federation ship on the lower pylon…

(Oh wow, you have a bunch of SW stuff up there too.

I am a child of sci fi. I blame it on my dad. He took me to the first SW movie (4) and let us watch ST during dinner. I also love to read such authors as Asimov.
