GWC Podcast #150: BSG 4.5 Blood On The Scales

This is my thoughts on the Kelly debate. I listen to GWC because it is great fun and I get to think a lot more about the meanings beneath the fact presented on screen, and it is a ton of fun.

The Crue are fans, they make mistakes, this wasn’t the first and it won’t be the last. But since I don’t listen to the cast expecting them to be the ultimate canon of BSG anyway, the mistakes are funny and light hearted just like other parts of the cast.

If the crue mistaken something, people can let them know on the forum, but I think the criticism about quality just because a certain mistake is made is out of leftfield.

Besides… Kelly really does look similar to Gage from Pegasus in this episode at a number of scenes. Probably because he lost weight…

Seeing as how I stared at Kelly thinking “Who the hell is this guy” even after my friend watching it with me said “Huh, it’s Kelly” and even after Tyrol said “Aaron,” and only got it when our three overlords said who it was on the podcast, I’m not going to hold it against them.

As an aside, I’ve seen every episode at least half a dozen times, own all the DVD’s, and even the HD-DVD’s, so I really should have known.

I’m watching S2 for the first time. The whole ‘Adama gets shot, Tigh runs the place’ arc.

Ellen should stay dead. Poor Saul. Really.
And they’re both Cylon(z)! And still I feel bad for Saul.

So, yes, whatever this woman brings to the plot, it better be good.

After checking my copy of the script for the miniseries, the script for “Valley of Darkness”, and the official companion, it seems that two out of the three have it spelled Kelly. The script for the mini is the only one that has it as Kelley.

Cool. I learned something new.

I staked out my position on the spelling of Kelly in order to be difficult. I think I saw it spelled that way at Battlestar Wiki. Gaius continues to trip me up from time to time.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but having recently poured over the 4.5 premier, I can say that they are packing a LOT into these last few. Let us see if we get enough payoff to justify Ellen.

This is no revelation, but given her “history” Ellen seems perfectly placed to be the primary “explainer”. But you’re right - success will hinge on how well the explainer is explained. My money is on the writers.

Haven’t listened to the RDM 'cast yet, my guess was just based on what I saw in the epidode.

DXF: If you mean where did I start watching? I’ve seen the Miniseries, 33, Razor and the last few episodes of Season 1 (a weird combo of itunes and Blockbuster) and last night I watched the first dvd of Season 2.

Season 1 is kind of …sweet. I hope I can get all this watched before the bitter end.

With all the talk about democracy and government, I thought I’d add a couple of quotes:

bkitty’s vaguely insult-like comment aside, this debate has been largely flame free. Perhaps I missed the ‘no flame war’ clause in the board charter. Thanks for setting me straight on the matter.

As for not piping up until I had a negative opinion of an aspect of the podcast: Fortunately, the economy slowed down in time for me to have some time to start posting. Unfortunately, the only thing I felt strongly about was the inaccuracies of some details of the podcast.
Was it bad form? I don’t believe so. It was an honest assessment, not made in malice and not presented as to personally insult Chuck, Audra, or Sean. I love the work they do and don’t want to see it turn into craaaap.
Hell, if I had a chance to throw my two cents to Shatner, right before he took up the helm of Star Trek V, perhaps it could have made a difference. Even if it didn’t, I could have still been okay with having tried.

It’s good to know you do enjoy the podcast. The first post seemed (to me at least) like some one just complaining but after reading the rest of your posts, I can respect your opinion.

I hope you do I have a friend who is watching all my dvds right now. It’s weird to see him blown away by the season 1 cliffhanger. Adama getting shot is such a small deal compare to Earth sucking or New craaaaaprica. He hasn’t see any season 4 episodes, and gets scared even if I mention how awesome they are.

I would NOT listen if they turned it into a Knight Rider podcast. However, were it to become a podcast about “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea” (starring Richard Basehart and David Hedison) - well that would be an entirely different matter.
