GWC Podcast #150: BSG 4.5 Blood On The Scales

From what I’ve seen online, if the original BSG had a second season Cain and Pegasus were going to return.

I think Pegasus would have been just fine without her fighters. The original series battlestars were able to deal a siginificant amount of damage on their own. Pegasus took out two basestars with just two Vipers in support.

One problem I have with the last two episodes…

They all wore pants!!

Did they not get the memo that the revolution will be Pantsless??

Hey all,

Thanks for those who sent corrections on the Kelly issue - I got PMs and such to gently correct my goof. As a reminder, GWC is a fan podcast- we’re fans who have a pretty good understanding of the show but miss things here and there. I hope you all continue to express your opinions; we welcome them regardless of whether or not you agree with us. I think the key is expressing ideas in a civil way.

For what it’s worth, I’ve been guilty more than once of reacting quickly and harshly to someone online. I’ve also been guilty of saying confrontational things to satisfy a personal annoyance. I understand how these things go. I’d like to continue offering understanding to each other in all directions. If we (or I) annoy the crap out of you, we don’t mean to, but go ahead and let us know. And if you let us know in a civil way, we’re very likely to speak to your point or play your call because we do care about what you think.

I hope you all continue to enjoy the podcasts and create good discussions on the forum.

I tell ya, this is something I’ve been trying to work on. I’ve got start telling myself that jumping on someone doesn’t really fix anything except make people either mad, angry or at least uncomfortable around each other for a while.

So, when I see someone say something I don’t like, I try to think of puppies.

Yes, puppies…and sometimes little kittens…zombie kittens…wait…no…regular kittens. Yeah.

One rule I live by online is “Assume No Malice.” That way you’re sure not to flame someone who ISN’T trying to be a dick, and you don’t feed the trolls who ARE.

I find re-reading my own post is often helpful, not only for typos (I type faster than I can type), but also to make sure my tone is clear. I very easily come off as defensive or challenging when I merely mean to lay out my own stance, and like Pike says, assuming no malice ensures that you’re not adding your own inflection to words that often have little context and none of the indicators of intent humankind is used to, such as inflection, emphasis, and body language.

I assume the same is true for skinjobs.

Well said Pike !

I just went back and rewatched “The Hub.” Wow, I remembered it differently. I’ll attribute that to wanting Boomer to survive and eventually reunite with the Chief.

Maybe the Sharon that was distressed hearing Zarek’s lie about Admiral Adama was the one that downloaded Athena’s memories in The Hub. You know the one who gave Helo the shoulder rub before they went to destroy the resurrection hub.

Pretty sure I did NOT want to see Tom Zarek without pants.

I can think of a few I wouldn’t mind, though.

<bad Sanderlee, BAD!! Get your head out of the bilges!>

:stuck_out_tongue:

Well, just as long as I still can say “Those fools!!!” on occasion. I find it cathartic. And he spells him name kelly.

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly,
I love Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly, Kelly!

lol!

Reminds me of Woody singing that song in that Cheers ep!

How much of a non sequitur we got going on here? Yeah, okay, Ellen fan, but bringing her back introduces another character into an ensemble that only has six more episodes to resolve this story. This does not follow!

Oh hell. I know what’s wrong with me. I want Starbuck to have more screen time, and I don’t see how that’s possible with them wedging Ellen in here.

I loved the ending of this 'sode. I loved the glance that Gaeta and Zarek exhanged just before the guns fire. I love it that Adama is there, live and in person to give the order to fire–that little weenie Gaeta had to delegate the wet work to the red shirts. To quote Lazarus Long, “When the time comes, shoot your own dog.” This is why Adama is the admiral, and Gaeta is deaddeaddead.

Theory on Starbuck: We still don’t know what happened to her in that clinic back on Caprica. Did they clone her, a spare Starbuck to have on hand for emergencies?

Welcome aboard, Story.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but having recently poured over the 4.5 premier, I can say that they are packing a LOT into these last few. Let us see if we get enough payoff to justify Ellen.

I’m watching S2 for the first time. The whole ‘Adama gets shot, Tigh runs the place’ arc.

Ellen should stay dead. Poor Saul. Really.
And they’re both Cylon(z)! And still I feel bad for Saul.

So, yes, whatever this woman brings to the plot, it better be good.

After checking my copy of the script for the miniseries, the script for “Valley of Darkness”, and the official companion, it seems that two out of the three have it spelled Kelly. The script for the mini is the only one that has it as Kelley.

Cool. I learned something new.

Thanks for the welcome, Pike, and of course I’ll be watching. At this point I think I’ve taken a vow. I just…miss Starbuck being front and center at least some of the time. I was thrilled when she blazed across the screen in Oath, and there are so many plot points involving her that I want answers to.

Ok, that sounds plausible.

According to the commentary, she was killed soon after. So this one’s yet another random 8.

Perhaps the 8 was upset upon hearing that one of the Final Five was dead.
