Does anyone know which cast had the CIC song? I’d love that as a separate track too. Thanks for that Fenatic
It was in Podcast #32, you can find it here:

Thanks Smarx!
Hey Audra, about you thinking some older men are Hot. my wife is in your camp too. He thinks my XO, with his Salt and Pepper hair is hot. she remarked on the drive home from toyko that she hopes I age as well as him.

To pick up on what a couple previous posters have said: The movie Wolverine is essentially different from the character as presented in comics. And I haven’t followed X-Men comics in recent years, so I’m not really qualified to go into much more detail than that.
I understand Logan has been presented as a kinder, gentler Wolverine in recent years. But still, give me the ferocious man-animal given to berserker rages, with a mysterious past, who developed his humanity by learning samurai honor (or something like that).
Here’s the Wolverine Wikipedia entry. As always, take it with a grain of salt…
Just because Wolverine does not follow generally accepted western European/North American morals does not make him Mr. Immorality or even Mr. Amorality. For example Sean says that loyalty is important to Wolverine and that in and of itself is an example of a moral. From the first movie you can see moral choices (not amoral choices) in helping Rogue the first time (ya know not leaving her in the snow) that has nothing to do with loyalty. The very fact that he latches on to Rogue (either out of this sense of protecting the less strong or out of sense of failing to protect while under his care (the whole fact that she was in his truck and he thinks that Rogue is drawn into this whole mess because of him) suggests a strong moral code. I think that because killing is not ‘evil’ in Wolverine’s moral code we confuse that with immorality or amorality.
You see another example of this at the very beginning of the first Wolverine mini-series. Logan is fighting a former champion sumo wrestler in a ‘bare knuckles’ fight. Logan is content to fight without his claws until his opponent cheats (I can’t remember if the wrestler pulls a knife or a gun), at which point the claws come out and mayhem ensues. This again suggests a moral code and in this case we can see that Logan generally believes in ‘playing fair.’
Reydaman, awesome post. Another example of Wolverine’s moral code from the mini-series is when he’s sent to kill the bear that’s gone wild. He recognizes that the bear isn’t at fault because lazy hunters wounded him without going in for the kill, and that people’s lives were forfeit because of that laziness (he does end up bringing the hunter to justice without killing, btw). Wolverine’s moral code is probably as well defined as any because his doesn’t wither when things get tough. In fact, if anything, Wolverine’s moral code gets even more stringent when tested.
Cyclops has only recently become a more interesting character because he’s gone away from being Xavier’s boyscout. The moments where he has split from Xavier are few and far between, especially considering he’s been around for about forty-five years. Part of that is his relationship with Emma, another part of that is that he’s willing to make some really horrible decisions (including genocide) because mutants are a dying race.
A couple of more corrections from the podcast I haven’t seen noted yet: Jean Grey isn’t Cable’s mother, Madeline Pryor (Jean’s clone) is. Wolverine has a thing for taking on young, female partners, including (briefly) Rogue and Kitty Pryde. Jubilee was the the last and most frequent one. Although, I’m fascinated to see if X-23 (Logan’s clone, oy) takes that spot.
The problem with trying to explain X-men the comic in a few episodes is that X-men has a long enough history that it requires it’s own dedicated podcast to really begin to get everything. I worked in a comic book store for years and (while being a near-fanatical DC person) I just loved flipping thru the various x-titles to see what was up and the “oh (sorrybarb)” moments (Grant Morrison’s run had it’s share of those)
Anyway, I may call in this week, depending on how much time I’ve got. I really really wanted to be in that room where you making GWC. Maybe a live GWC Direct-to-archive could be in order
(and I’m looking forward to the Wolverine movie-Gambit & Deadpool!)
Meow Marmalade!!
it’s on my ipod now with 5 stars
Guy’s and adura this has to be one if not the best podcast you have given us. I don’t think I have laughed that hard in a Looonng time and I am very thankfull for that.
So who is every body’s fave X-menfrom the movies?
I would go with Kitty Pride.I just love that power.
I asked that question in the frak party.
I think Badger said he would want to be Magneto. Wolverine is my favorite character but I would want Mystique’s powers. Like Audra said in the podcast, it would just be fun to frak with people. (I’m paraphrasing) Change into my boss and walk into the lunch room and say, “You’re all fired!” Nah I wouldn’t do that. Hmmm, I know. Three words. Ladies locker room. Yea Yea I know. Lack of imagination. Walk into a club as Brad Pitt. Start a fight with someone as William Shatner. Purchase ‘Gov’t for Dummies’ at the local Barnes and Noble as Arnold Schwarzenegger.
what a great podcast. the first time(s) I watched the X-Men movies (I’m not a comic reader) I didn’t question Xavier’s goodness or rightness, but later I realized that I don’t see things his way and wasn’t at all confident that his method of “teaching everyone to get along” would even be effective. I would probably have sided with Magneto. that thought kind of bothered me.
I like this article comparing Xavier, Magneto, MLKJr, and Malcolm X.
about the chess game, Xavier had captured many of Magneto’s pieces and his last 2 moves were with pawns. the piece Magneto knocks over is his own king. I had made it a point to rewatch this bit because I had always assumed he knocked over a piece of the Professor’s–it seemed more like a Magneto-ish thing to do. (I’m not a chess player, and the performances were so powerful that I never paid much attention to the board itself.)
Another great podcast!
And I even got “someoned” at the end. Yippee for me!!
I love hearing about all the background of the X-Men.
I feel like, if I watched the movies again after know more about the X Men, I would get a lot more out of them.
I know Sean said one could jump in anywhere, to enter the world of X Men comics.
But could anyone list maybe the 10 essential X Men comic issues that would get a newbie up to speed about the X Men?
All this makes me long for an eventual (hopefully) Star Trek arc. Star Trek is a topic I can completely geek out on and have a lot say about in detail.
X Men, not so much.
Incidentally, the place I’m reading XMen online is via Marvel’s “Digital Comics” offering. It’s a subscription service that’s $10 a month and offers around 5,000 comics for online viewing via a pretty decent viewer. It’s not everything, but it does give you a pretty decent spread of comics across lots of characters and series. There’s a TON of XMen available.
That’s the end of a chess game. The king is never ‘captured,’ he’s put into an impossible situation and the game is conceded, often signaled by the losing player knocking over his king.
Cool! Thanks Chuck. $10 a month seems pretty reasonable for access to that many comics. There’s a local comic book store in my area, but I usually go there for games not for comics.
Audra’s “Here in CIC” song is what motivated me way back when to participate in the GWC community. At the time there was no Forum, so GWC members mostly participated by posting comments on the Blog page. I had been a listener to the 'cast for a while. But, when I heard Audra’s “Here in CIC” song, I felt coming out of lurking mode and tell Audra how great it was.
I think that was likely my 1st post on GWC.
I’d have agreed with this statement before Deathly Hallows, but not after reading “The Prince’s Tale” and “King’s Crossing”.
I’ve only seen the movies, so if Professor X was a power seeker then I take it back. However, I do see a lot of parallels in my limited knowledge.
