I’ve been listening to GWC for years and have lurked on the forum off and on for awhile as well but never felt compelled to post until now. For starters, I’d sort of disagree that Logan is either amoral or immoral. If anything, he, along with Nightcrawler and Storm, is one of the more moral X-men. Cyclops, on the other hand, is almost completely amoral. Every thing he believes, up until recently, has been one of Xavier’s regurgitated philosophies. Now that Cyclop’s doesn’t have Xavier around to guide him, he makes all sorts of morally questionable decisions, (creating a wetworks squad, torture etc) so much so that it’s Wolverine who is the one who calls him on it.
I do agree completely on the Magneto/Xavier debate. Although, Magneto has done plenty of subversive things himself.
Another thing, it’s the Danger Room not the Battle Room.
Finally, the X-men, in terms of trying to create meaning through allegory, are essentially representational for any disenfranchised group. Initially, it was African Americans, later those affected by McCarthyism and the Jewish, now homosexuals (hence the recent move toward San Francisco).
Sorry if this comes off as overly critical. I greatly appreciate the podcast and have been a loyal listener for quite awhile.
