GWC Podcast #113

I forgot whether it was this podcast or the previous one that the crew mentioned Steven Tyler’s legacy to the world is Liv Tyler… I just ran across the old Crazy music video today, and for the first time realized that Steven Tyler put his daughter in the MV pole dancing. When the video first came out I knew too little about music to know that was his daughter…

wow…

and then i realized that MV defined my perception of beauty pretty much the rest of my life…

I think it was this one. Love for Hugo Weaving --> LoTR --> Liv Tyler. Although I’m gonna have to go with Audra and say that Orlando Bloom was the prettiest elf ever. I don’t even like using the word “pretty” to describe men, but it is the perfect word for him. Even my Good Old Boy Brother acknowledged it, haha.

this reminds me of a scene from the Clerks cartoon.

Randall: Ok, if you were Steven Tyler from Aerosmith for just one night, and you could have any woman you wanted, who would it be?
Dante: Caitlin Bree.
Randall: See, I would’ve said Liv Tyler.
Dante: …

This is also the video that gave the world Alica Silverstone. She was the hottest thing to jump off a bridge and get saved by a naval piercing that’s ever lived.

Ah to be an adolescent again.

I’m sure the crazy video sent a lot of boys to their bunk.

I’ll…erm…just be in my…erm…bunk if anybody…y’know…needs me.

I know Liv Tyler is hot, but personally, Alicia Silverstone is the most beautiful women in the 90s by my book.

i can totally hear Peter Griffin saying that.

Maybe not THE but certainly ONE OF …clueless was what got me.

I was elected to leeead, not to reeead.

Yeah, Terminator and Matrix have a great premise i.e. rise of the machines and are good movies, but a good premise does not necessarily make a good movie (see Maximum Overdrive).

Matrix is smarter because it deals with questioning reality, which philosophers have tackled since the dawn of time, but at the heart it is a sci-fi/ action movie.

IMO the best movie in recent memory that really packs an existential punch is “No Country for Old Men”.

Aerosmith Cryin’

Yeah… these are definitely the best bunk music videos ever.

Thats the one i was thinkin of. Not Crazy. Thats the video that sent me to my bunk. Alica Silverstone in flannel dangling from a bridge

yup, instead of the easy girls who are just clinging all over the place because the guy in the music video has lots of cash in today’s music videos, these classic bunk videos have girls who wants nothing but their own fun and set out to screw you over. Definitely the finest page on history of music videos.

oh the subject of Orlando Bloom being the prettiest elf ever, I think Liv Tyler’s dad prepared a song for his daughter just for that occasion.

Ahahahahaha! Poor Orlando.

Same difference. :stuck_out_tongue:

As I finally listened to the podcast this week (shame, shame I know), I haven’t read the thread at all, so here are my thoughts before I see how everyone else has already said what I wanted to say :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow for the intro – was he a policy debater?!

Speaking of Carrie Fisher - did anyone see her guest episode on 30 Rock last season, “Rosemary’s Baby”? HILARIOUS. I spit my drink when the inevitable SW reference came.

Sean - the outfit craziness is soooooooo true. It kind of freaked me out (especially the length of the coats). Though it’s also so hot.

I saw the Matrix at a friend’s house when I was in high school, and it was good and stuff but I wasn’t like omg awesomeness. Perhaps it’s not realistic – and especially the helicopter crash! Because shouldn’t Trinity get totally slashed by all the flying glass? That said, I thought the ripple had it’s parallel with with cat deja vu bit, like the Matrix doesn’t know what to do.

Apropos the spoon child, I think that the whole idea of adults learning from children (out of the mouth of babes, so to speak) is really common in artistic representations of life. Maybe I just have it on the brain, but if you think about it, there are lots of stories where knowledge/revelation comes in the form of a child.

Agent Smith as the ultimate villain strikes me as really good. He’s never really explained in the movies (for me, the reason the Cylons stopped being so scary, even the Centurions), and he’s awesome for all the reasons mentioned.

Elf scenes – yes Orlando Bloom is a beautiful elf. Much more beautiful than Liv Tyler. And it took me forever to figure out that Agent Smith! Was in Lord of the Rings! (Yes I know his name is Hugo Weaving. But he’s Agent Smith!)

Actually yeah I noticed it. That, and the size of the cell phones. I mean, wow. At least they didn’t have those carrying cases that were the size of some laptop bags today…

As the rest of the Matrix movies kind of turned me off of the whole concept, I hadn’t given it much thought. But I’m definitely buying into the idea that Neo chose to be the One, and if he hadn’t gone to save Morpheus, he wouldn’t have been the One. That way, there can be ‘fate’ but there is also individual free will. And I’m a fan of free will, let me tell you.

while i agree with you on the videos, scientists have established that 90s Aerosmith is the absolute worst music ever created ever. even worse than Bon Jovi. seriously. this was the beginning of the downslide that culminated with “Pink.”

i agree. Of the 3 Alicia Silverstone Aerosmith video, I thought Crying was the only one that really has good music. The other two, Amazing was just awful… Crazy has the video going on for it, but music-wise it wasn’t that great. After this, the rest of Aerosmith in the 90s are things I rather forget… I know “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” got a lot of air time, but I really hate that song with a passion.
