GWC Podcast #111

As I’ve also written elsewhere in the forum… I have no problem with Hayden Christiansen appearing at the end of ROTJ. Superficially, he’s better to look at. And perhaps it is also how Anakin sees his best self. Just a thought.

I also have always been confused (oh grammar) about whether the Jedi in the title refers to a singular or plural. I think if we just take what we see in the movie, it feels like it’s singular, since the only Jedi left standing, so to speak, is Luke. I never got from the movies that there was a great plan to restore/reform the Order, though I take it from what I’ve heard about post-ROTJ EU that it indeed happens. But I don’t think the movies make that clear.

Also re: Salma Hayek and Frida - I think they were going for more how Kahlo painted herself (to go with the transitions in the film between the action and Kahlo’s self-portraits) rather than the photographic evidence we have of how she looks. Examples:

Frida Kahlo (photograph)

One of my favorites of her self-portraits

And and image from the movie starring Salma Hayek

LOL! She got me, too!!!

THANK YOU!!

Yes, it was kind, indeed!

And congrats on OG status!

I’ll see your brilliant Youtube “Yub Nub” video and raise you this:

LOL I saw this one while browsing for the other ones… while amusing, they call the song “the stupid ewok celebration song!” Plus I’m not sure they’re wearing pants.

Though that said, mad props to whoever arranged it for the barbershop quartet.

Vaguely related: when I was a kid I was totally convinced that the last part, which translates (I can’t believe I’m talking about translating Ewokese… :o) as “Celebrate the love,” was really just the Ewoks mispronouncing Alleluia.

I thought part of the song said Han, Luke, Leia. I guess were all trying to make sense of nonsense.

Isn’t that the mark of greatness?

I second that.

Anyway, I always felt that with the reveal that Luke had a sister and that she too was strong in the force, that the Jedi the film’s title referred was plural, especially after Luke took off his father’s helmet and Vader said that Luke was right and there still was good inside him and he turned back into Anakin (thus creating another jedi even if it was for less than a minute before he died).

I haven’t finished the listening to the 'cast yet but I had to correct the story about Mara Jade. Mara was not on the Super Star Destroyer when the Emperor was killed, she was on Coruscant (aka Imperial Center). She found out about what was happening over Endor through a Force communication from Palpatine. He showed her a false version of events and commanded her to kill Luke as revenge on Vader. But it is an easy mistake to make because she keeps reliving the moment throughout the Thrawn trilogy and it reads like she was actually there.

Audra deserves a cookie for the crack about what you would call Mara’s jobs. That had me laughing hysterically. It gave me some disturbing mental images (mostly because I can’t picture her with anyone other than Luke) but still hilariously funny.

You guys need to do more jet-lagged podcasts. That was hysterical. I haven’t laughed so hard in weeks.

I made a donation to the WWF and was given a tote bag. I used it to bring stuff to work. My students were surprised I was into wrestling.

Great pick.

Although raised on the originals in the theater, the ending of the Special Editions now seem more real to me. I kind of like the new song quite a bit better myself. However, this debate rages in my household, as my wife is an Ewok purist…

Speaking of the wife, I showed her the barber shop quartet vid a few months ago, and she too was offended by the “stupid Ewok song” comment…

Thanks for showing these side by side comparisons. While I’m a bit ambivalent between the two songs (either seems to work pretty well), I noticed that I like the cut of the original better. It had more creepy shots of Jabba giggling to the music and making obscene leers at the dancers. Served to make him a bit more villainous…

Podcast #111 - the Giggle-cast.

Okay, I’m only about 1/3 of the way through so far and I’m laughing so hard I’m in tears. So I third or fourth or one hundredth the vote for more jet lagged/giggle-y casts!

So I need to know…has anyone mentioned the Han/Leia boob grab? I would think that Audra of all people would have noticed the gratuitous boob scene.

Another great podcast. Being on an airplane ride without a good book to read, podcast to hear or movie to watch?..That sounds like living hell to me. Sorry Chuck.

I just finished listening to the podcast, I one thing Audra at the end said made me chuckle. They’ve mentioned me about 5 or 6 times on the podcast over the past year, but I’m always referred to as “someone on the forum.”
“Someone on the forum posted a bit about our 100,000th podcast”.
"Someone on the forum, I forget who, said ‘I’m not a TV whore, I’m a TV Companion’ ".
“Someone on the forum started a thread asking if everyone was alright after the earthquake.”
etc.
etc.

Excellent, excellent. My stealth/anonymity shield is working perfectly…muhaaahhhahhhh (evil laugh).

It happens to all of us. In the beginning, I was going to change my screen name to “Someone.”

Wow, a Star Wars to Sonny Bono connection… (1:01:00)

(gasping)

car… stereo… broken…

jonesing… for… watercooler…

won’t be… fixed… for weeks…

it’s like my own personal dose of hiatus.

to quote darth vader: “nooooooooooooooooo!”

(yeah, I could listen at work or home, but that’s not my podcast time. this happened last summer too. not sure what I did to make it thru; I think I blocked it out – it was too traumatic)

Come to the dark side! (Or the light side: I understand the Touch comes in white now.)
