GWC Podcast #111

With this week’s feature, Return of the Jedi, we near the end of our GWC Star Wars podcast arc. Highlights: we marvel at Leia’s distinct memory of her mother’s beauty during the two minutes they both lived, questioned the Jedi “from some point of view” approach to truth, skeeved out at Palpatine the perv, discussed Jedi the musical, heard Audra’s Jedi-era hair analysis, and wend our way through tales involving generic baggers and Salma Hayek. We didn’t get to calls again this week, but don’t despair: next week’s podcast will be a call-only show wrapping up the Star Wars arc!

First post.

Yay, for one final hoorah with Star Wars next week. I’m curious as to what the next arc will be.

I’m lookin’ forward to listening.

I am downloading it as we speak or type.

Listening to the podcast will be my reward for making my reading goal today  250 pages to go!

What are you reading then?

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Which was better - the feature film starring Walter Pigeon as Adm. Nelson or the TV show with Richard Basehart in the role?

PhD comprehensive exams in March/April, so I’m reading for that. Novels, poetry, plays, essays, stories…

Mon dieu, next spring? And you’re already studying? Good lord.

What’s the dissertation about?

I actually feel like I’m behind. But I like to do things early.

Dissertation topic isn’t firmed up, since I need to pass the exams first ;), but it’ll probably have something to do with historical novels.

But… if I’m going to get to the podcast, I must get back to the books! LOL

Wow, a bit in the gutter this time. I really did not need the vision of how the Emperor goes to the bathroom.

Oh, great imitations this week. The Muppets need your voices.

So when are you coming to Florida??

Reason why you’ve never met a jerk face mcgee at a meetup: I’ve never gone to one

I haven’t listened to the 'cast yet, but the GeeksOn crew have my interpretation of Episode 3 down pat.

I need a brain scrubber for the image of Palpatine ED ads and Force viagra

And I forgot that we’re doing this in numbered order, so that makes no sense.

I will say that hubris leads to retconning which leads to the dark side.

Where do you get a brain scrubber? I think jet lag had some influence on this podcast.

All that talk about the grocery ‘bagging’ job really brings back the memories. Spent two years doing that…and yes it was to help pay for university. Fondest memory…getting electrocuted cleaning out a milk fridge…and having a little old lady yell at me for startling her while I was being electrocuted. Good times.

I managed to miss that memory. The white shirt with baggers on it was really funny.

I hate to get all technical and stuff, but, come on - a Sith Master would never live to see the day that he couldn’t use the force to…help things along…if he were that weak in his connection to the dark side, his apprentice would have killed him long ago

I think corduroy is a great choice for the Empire - it looks like it gets cold on the Death Stars.

Regarding Slave Leia: I remember reading somewhere, years ago in a Carrie Fisher biography I think, or some interview, that in preparing for ROTJ she had done a lot of work on her body to get it in good enough shape to wear an outfit like that, with the implication that it wasn’t before - she referred to it as her “new body,” which I did not take to mean plastic surgery, just getting buff. I roll my eyes every time I see it, but I have never met a man who hasn’t in some way been deeply affected by it - and not one of them think it wasn’t completely necessary. I just wish we would have gotten a similar shot of Han, because, man, he was smokin’ hot in these movies…
