GWC Podcast #107

he’s bringing over matrix this weekend and i asked to see rots again too…i hate sand…and don’t break my red guys!!

I actually really dislike rifftrax. It was funny when it was a crappy b movie from the 50s but talking incessently over a movie I actually enjoy and not making actual funny comments in places where there is good timing? No thanks

so what makes you laugh then?? robot chicken? family guy? i just like to laugh!!

You actually like Point Break? :stuck_out_tongue:

Excellent questions, and I think it goes to the point that the only thing that would need a clone army would be an authoritarian government, like the Empire. But here are some questions about the clones - can they reproduce? What is their life span when they aren’t fighting? According to the Kaminoans the clones were made more docile through genetic engineering - does that hold over time? If they can reproduce in some way besides cloning themselves (uf maybe that’s what went wrong with the Stormtroopers…), do they pass along that docility and growth acceleration? Can a clone evolve over time? Can a clone develop self-awareness [clarification: individual consciousness apart from his existence as a genetic replica of a man who no longer exists]? Could a clone make the same journey of self-discovery that we’ve seen the Cylons make as a people over the mini-series and the first 3 and a half seasons of BSG?

I’m also really looking forward to hearing you guys talk about the music next week…

[shudder at the monstrosity that was ROTS end title credits]

Because I love the music, for me it’s the best part of all of it. It means more to me than the story or the visuals or whatever. The music does it for me. Except for those (sorry Barb) end title credits…

Anakin was taken from everything he knew and lost his family connections to become a Jedi.

Luke chose to become a Jedi because he lost his family.

Just a point of contrast I noticed.

i think audra made the point that the clones need a fight…if the fighting ever stopped i’m sure they would either start fighting among themselves or they’d have to be put down because they would no longer have a purpose…so now i’m wondering with the empire defeated and the new republic stuck with a bunch of clones, what is the ethical thing to do?? and at what point do we accord them rights as sentient beings?? thank you commander data and andromeda!!

i used to listen to side two and four of the empire strikes back…not bon jovi or pat benatar but the empire frakkin strikes back!! alone in my room day after day that’s all i wanted to do was get home from school and listen to han and the princess and the duel!!! and the imperial march!!

Great Questions about the Clones. If these questions fascinate you I strongly recommend the the Republic Commando book series. Those books deal with issues about Clone individualism, how they learn over time and what their role is in the galaxy. As for the technical questions, I’m fairly certain Clones are genetically neutered and age at an accelerated rate.

If the fighting stopped the clones would…staff the starships of the republic? I mean…that seams kinda obvious. After a war you’re not just going to throw away all your cool toys you got from it. That’s just silly.

Back to rifftrax though, okay not all movies but say…Independence Day or Lord of the Rings or Topgun or The Matrix or Jurassic Park or etc

Top Gun is the funniest one IMO. And Independence Day is a riot with or without rifftrax. I don’t think they actually think those are all bad movies they just have some fun with the ridiculous aspects of most of these films. I enjoy them for what they are. I’m just glad that there is a spirtual continuation of MST3K.

Clones do, in fact, grow at a highly accelerated rate. After the Clone Wars ended a lot just died of “old age”. The original clones continued to serve in the Imperial Army/Navy until they died. I remember reading somewhere that the Imperial military added more clone lines but eventually phased them out in favor of “volunteers” (draftees mostly).

i found a really funny podcast called “a different point of view” on podiobooks.com. It is funny and deals with the upcoming good trilogy. It is all the star wars stuff from a sandtroopers’ point of view. they are very short 4-20 min podcasts. Some of the highlights:

stormtroopers get blamed for bad aim; “We put a tracking beacon on their ship, why would we want to kill them?”

The stormtroopers call the jedi mind trick “mind rape.”

Lots of funny stuff. I’m calling in tomorrow with some stuff. Please hurry and get to the REAL trilogy. The only cool thing about 1-3 is natalie.

I have #4 music on a record. You know when you put a needle on it and did not try to scratch it. It started a love of movie music and the orchestra.

I am one of those people that like to read credits (sorry Casilda) even when there is not a part of the movie after it.

I bring this up about the Stormtroopers because of how history looks upon it’s soldiers. And how Lucas compares today’s society with his sci-fi one.

The victor writes the history books, so how did the Stormtroopers get a bad wrap after Ep 2 & 3? Since they “won” the war for the Empire?

If the Germans had won WW2, would we look upon the Werhmacht or Waffen SS the same way we do now?

Or do they deserve to have the “mall cop” attitude that everyone in the SW universe seems to give them. “Hey, I got no problem shooting a couple in cold blood when they come on my ship. It’s the ‘Make My Day Law.’ Besides, they’re ONLY Stormtoopers.”

I STILL bust out the Star Wars Disco album (vinyl) every once in a while for shites & giggles…

For a character that had been rattling around in Lucas’ brain since the beginning, and especially considering he was played by Samuel Jackson, Mace Windu was a total fart.

Point Break is good, in the same way that potato chips and Doritos are.

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to Solai for eloquently stating what was in my mind (re: your call in this podcast).

see? I told you you were eloquent
