Grace actually emailed my a transcript of GWC Podcast #168, which won’t be available until July of 2009. I will be posting it soon …
Obligatory “OMFG GRACE PARK ROKK!” comment
And LOL that she’s been on the site and seen all the dudes posting those pictures of her
And on the topic of TPM: I’ve been pissed off at the Jetii’se for some time now, because of 1) pompousity, 2) stupidity, 3) general holier-than-thou stuff, 4) because as we will learn next week, they have a sort of agreement with the Coruscant Denny’s franchises, and 5) they’re a state sponsored religion
I sort of like the idea that the Jedi could’ve stopped the galaxy going into the sharter, but it just wasn’t in the budget. And the whole thing about Anakin is too old, when I was younger it struck me as the Jedi being stupid. When I got older, I heard a quote from some Jesuit priest somewhere: “Give me a child from birth to six years old, and he’ll be mine for life.” It’s a plan to keep the membership up: indoctrinate (not in the pejorative sense, in the dictionary sense) the child with their ideals to the point that the child finds it difficult, even impossible, to question them later in life.
Anakin did indeed start too late to be fully and properly indoctrinated. In point of fact, they started his training around the time most kids go through their rebellious phase, which could be the WORST time to indoctrinate someone. Anakin had some of his own ideas, either that his mother had given him, or that he came up with on his own, and the Jetii philosophy never completely overwrote them.
And re: Obi-wan and Artoo - Obi-wan never owned anything, since Jedi give up possessions. He worked with some droids who were owned by the Republic, specifically the Jedi Order branch thereof, and he worked with Artoo, who was technically a free droid according to the ROTS novelisation (Written by Matthew Woodring Stover - read anything and everything by him! Now!) Anyway, I think there was a sort of smile of recognition from Obi-wan in ANH when he saw Artoo. He didn’t mention anything to Luke because that could easily lead to uncomfortable questions, like “oh balls, that’s your sister” or “oh balls, your dad is evil and works for the evil guy who rules the galaxy”.
And finally, Chuck, Sean, Audra: if you want a little more backstory along with some AWESOME bits of Mace Windu fighting like a BMF, I’d recommend the Clone Wars cartoon series. It’s two DVDs, a total of about 1.5 hours, and one part is set just after AOTC and the other is leading DIRECTLY into ROTS. Like it ends one minute before ROTS begins. They’re very good and done by the guy who did Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Lab, so if you haven’t watched them, omg go watch now-like.
And that wraps up the most I’ve ever said on this forum.

KOTOR did give us a bit more background for the prequels, but I think it’s only relevant in that is shows us the Jedi Order starting to become like the Jedi Order of the prequels, mostly because KOTOR was nearly 4000 years before the movies. In fact they actually seem to be too much like the prequel era Order but I attribute that to the Order and the Republic being at war for nearly 50 years straight.
Naw, we enjoy your rambling.
I agree with you that Empire’s military might have become corrupt in the time between the OT and the Vong invasion but I disagree about the damage of them being there outweighing the benefits. If Palpatine and Vader were still around then I’d agree with you but the Imperial forces did play an important part in the Vong War under Pellaeon and I think that if Thrawn had still been around the galaxy would have been much better off.
I knew it! You weren’t lying when you allegedly “typo’d” two or three months ago that you would usually listen to the GWC podcasts three or four days before they come out.
Hmm. How does ThotFullGuy end up avoiding predestination paradox then?
Through the cookies in his bunk.
Okay. I’m guessing the sarcasm doesn’t translate over onto the forum quite well.
I’ve been listening to the podcasts and finding them really fun. even when you guys make fun of/pick on each other or the movie/tv that you are currently talking about.
Most of the watercooler talk that me and the office mates have is usually in good jesting fun, so I hope you re-read the post with that in mind.
Besides, it’s hard tio seriously put-down the woman who brought the “Aunt Jemmia/Oracle” topic to light in a podcast. That was some of the most riveting and fundamentally sound discussions I’ve heard about sci-fi in a while. And being black, that was a breath of fresh air.
Beaver, I totally knew you were gonna say that.
Which leads perfectly into some promotion: a few of us were planning to watch Clone Wars before we have our Revenge of the Sith frak party on Sunday (4 PM EST), there’s a thread in the Star Wars part of the forum to discuss them. If you have things you want to say about them, join us! I should clarify that we aren’t planning a communal time to watch Clone Wars, you can re-watch on your own or just make comments based on having seen them before. Or ask questions. Or really, just talk about Clone Wars Vol. 1 and 2.
And I’ll echo lestack… they’re a lot of fun. Grievous is, IMO, much cooler in Clone Wars. But yeah, it’s cool.
I wonder how GWC ends…
Chuck: So that’s all the movies and TV shows ever made. It’s been a blast discussing them. And we WILL return if the final five episodes of Battlestar ever air.
Audra: Bye-bye.
Sean: Later, homies.
[Cue outtro music]
Yeah, that’s exactly what I was thinking. A herald is someone who goes ahead and announces that the king/queen will be arriving soon. No?
I actually did some math on that one—106 plus 52 equals 168.
The OGG, as you know, calls her Starbuck both.
Great Beavers think alike!
My philologically spoiled brain would have needed a calculator for that.
Just double checked and they appear to be synonymous.
No penultimate moment here… Move along… Move along…
Right - Starbuck is a heraldbinger.
