GWC Fantasy Football League

From last year.

Time for another heads up to newcomers to this season’s fantasy league. Now, with the first week officially over, we have the choice/chance of adjusting our line ups with waivers. Some of you may have already discovered this. Waivers work by selecting players we want and exchanging players we want to drop. You’d want to do it simultaneously instead of dropping players first and hoping your waiver comes through to prevent having gaps in your lineup.

The site has an order to go through which favors owners with lower standings. This week standings seems a bit off since it’s our first. However, usually owners with higher standings have the worse chances of getting the best players because the lower standings owners get their picks first.

Then on early Thursday AM US time, the site goes through and adjusts our rosters. If a player was dropped by another owner, we’ll be able to pick that player up using the same process. The site goes through the process again early Sunday AM US time.

It is worth noting that after Thursday, the lock on Free Agents/Available Players is released and we can manually add/drop players at will unless a player was recently dropped. So, you can choose to ignore waivers, but you may miss out on that week’s or season’s top players.

Finally, try to get your waiver picks in by Thursday 12:01 AM ET/Wednesday 9 PM PT. The waiver process occurs later in the AM, but this deadline will guard against potential site lockouts or other mishaps/forgetfulness on our end.

If anyone have questions, disagree with, or find any or all of my explanations unclear, please speak up. I’m typing this info based off my experiences from last season, and I may not be apprised of changes or forgotten important info.

Would someone else care to explain trades?

Good luck to us all. ^^

Repost from last year:

No takers eh?

I’ll try to make this short.

Trading Block
http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tradingblock?leagueId=661299&teamId=6

Click “Edit Your Trading Block” and make your decisions. Make sure you click “Save Changes” at the bottom before leaving the page.

Back on “Trading Block”, select players you’re interested and not interested in. Again, click “Save Interests” after making changes and before leaving the page.

Now, you can make offers blindly, but I suggest communicating with the owner(s) first.

Finally, remember trades take 2 days to complete. So, try to complete the proposals before Friday 12:01 AM in order to make it in time for Sunday’s games.

If anyone wishes to correct or expand on what I’ve said, please do so.

If, like Karl, you are 0-3, all is not lost. I asked the great Mike Polikoff, who oversees our League Manager product, to look into the 2009 results. He looked at all our 10-team prize eligible leagues from last year (the idea being that with a prize on the line, it’s even more of a competitive league) and, get this, more than 9 percent of the teams that started 0-3 still made the playoffs.

In other words, it doesn’t look great, but it’s not impossible. Incidentally, 25 percent of teams that started 3-0 didn’t make the playoffs. So don’t get cocky. And if you are 0-3, you keep playing…

Interesting to keep in mind…

P.S. Why does it fee like I’m mostly talking by myself here (Besides Pike, DP, and Jarathen occasionally? d:

Quite a few folk had an off week. Some people didn’t reset their line ups and bye week got them. Other people left injured players in their line ups. So, I’m quoting helpful tips again.

There were quite a few injuries this weekend, so check your lineups. D (Doubtful) are not players you want to count on until they are listed as ok on game day.

Done for now. I hope these help!

Fast cart - I’m here and learning. Thanks for all your info!

Wow, Mohamed Massaquoi went tenth in last night’s waivers.

I hope my picks work out. I got everyone but Devery Henderson and Rian Lindell (though I’m surprise he went second).

He was my 2nd waiver pick and I expected to not get him. I had 4 guys on my list, and only 2 I wanted (the other 2 were other Tight Ends that I only wanted to get if my first pick, Jermichael Finley, got taken), and I got them both.

Let’s hope they’re the right choices and they’re enough to stop my… GASP… 1 game losing streak!

I dislike you I wanted Finley.

My last experiences (all two years of them) is that the first match of the season can dictate how I’ll do the rest of the season. I won my first game in my first year and had a good season. I lost my 1st game my second season and that season wasn’t so hot.

But, here’s hoping I break that streak this year. d:

That’s a pretty large sample size

Fantasy players are highly superstitious. d:

Funny. I almost always lose in the first week and almost always go to the playoffs. I had worked up a theory that my poor play in week 1 always got me the best sleeper who did well in week 1, whom I got due to having a good waiver priority number. Then that person did well for me all year.

I never looked into it to see if it held any water, mostly because I’m pretty sure it doesn’t hold any water. But it’s an interesting idea.

You should have lost by more than I did

Just to let you know that I’m still here and you’re not talking to yourself

Heh. Thanks to everyone for that. (:

Anyone else annoyed at how the espn updates seems to flash the same scores two or three times sometime?

Yeah I don’t use the main webpage, I use the Fantasy Cast. Worse than the score flashing a couple times is (like it did earlier today) it stalls for 20 minutes and then runs through updating everything in 20 seconds.

I can’t even get Fantasy Cast to load at all. Other ppl list same issue on Google search today.

ESPN has a nice football app (iOS, not sure about Android.) It ties into your fantasy team.

Ew, that sucks. I wonder what the problem is. other than nothing updating for 20 minutes (which affected both the FantasyCast and the webpage) I had no problems all day.

It’s a free service getting hammered by too people…

It got better during the afternoon games.

Got it on android too. I barely use the website anymore. Really nice app.
