I am going to try my darndest to make it up on Friday. A lot depends on how the week goes as the boss is in town this week - and that normally means lots going on.
Plus one of the bunnies is coming up Thursday night, so not sure yet.

We’ll be at the southernmost tip of Manhattan on August 21st, at approximately 4:30pm and we’re sort of confining our sightseeing there to downtown Manhattan/south of Greenwich Village due to time restrictions (have to catch the last ferry out at 9:40pm)
My knowledge of NYC geography is rudimentary at best. How far is that from Times Square?
If anybody already knows for certain that they’ll meet up with us (other than Topgun and FT), let me know soon so that I can organize gifts!

Times Square is pretty much squarely in Downtown, I think…

From Times Square to Pier 11 is a 4-mile walk, Greenwich Village is right in between the two. And then there’s always the subway which should take you to downtown/financial district in no time.
Our list of things to see include the Financial District/NYSE (via Battery Park?), Brooklyn Bridge (via Chinatown?) and the Jefferson Market Courthouse in Greenwich Village. Any of these should make for good meeting points and we’ll do our very best to stay awake as long as possible so that we can all have dinner somewhere or hang out before our ferry leaves. Remember we’ll have gotten up at 3am on Friday German time and by the time it’s 6pm local in time in New York, it’s actually already midnight for night, so by the time we’re at the hotel in Jersay, it’ll have been a 30-hour-day for us. Huge amounts of coke will be required to live through it!

Yes and no. We’ll be coming through the Philly area anyway on the way to Baltimore on Saturday, but Baltimore is the big destination for that day. However, if you guys know a good spot that’s right off the interstate where we could hang out, we’d be happy to stop in Philly. A mall maybe? We love shopping and the idea of food courts! And we have a GPS, so we’ll find anything if you give us the address.
All the guide books consider Times Square to be in “mid-town Manhattan” but that might just be semantics.
Badger: Looks like where GR is headed is about 2 mi south of Penn Station, and even further from Grand Central, where I’ll be coming in. Since I (and hopefully Shadowace) plan on getting into the city as early as possible, I’m just going to map a route of things to see, and meander southwards during the day, either by taxi or on foot or both as the mood strikes, ending up on the southern tip of the island a little before GR and the GF are due to arrive.
Don’t worry about trying to entertain anyone GR. I know you’ll be exhausted/hyped on adrenaline/exhausted by then, Just want to say hello for a while.
When/where are you making your grand entrance, Talos? And will you be wearing bunny ears?
I hope to get off by 5pm. (Hmmm, yeah, have your way with that) I’ll give GR a ring and find out where y’all are at. Then I’ll make my way there. Bunny ears? Sure. You know, ask and receive. Ask and receive.
Looks like Shadowace won’t be available to accompany me on this epic trek. Football Hell Week is in full swing and he’d rather be bashed to a pulp than sightsee. 
So if any NYC-area GWCers see a guy wearing a GWC Craaap baseball jersey wandering the streets between Grand Central Station and the financial district, say hi for gods’ sake. Better yet, if you’d like to join me and meet the legend, GalaxyRanger, and his girlfriend, and sightsee beforehand, PM me.
Figured I would jump in and wish GR and his GF a safe flight, since they will be leaving soonish.

Just got home.
GR and GF were exhausted from their journey to the States. We were limited for time since they had to catch the ferry back to the fatherland…New Jersey. Basically we walked to and on the Brooklyn Bridge. Took some pictures and said goodbye. Good times.
Wish I could have been there. And Gr and GF are going to be very tired after the vacation, they have a very ambitious travel schedule.
I am home (and already showered - it was MUGGY in NYC, plus we got rained on) all safe and sound.
Even if the train ride there took longer then it should have, GR and GF got on the wrong ferry, 'Talos got stuck at work later then expected, much fun was had by all. And we saw a different part of NYC then I have with the las few trips to NYC with GWCers.
We missed all you guys who couldn’t join us.
