frak wish i could of been there guys, but i have a duty to football =/
hey everybody, need to make this quick, i am in the motel in roanoke, va right now
some quick answers and remarks:
we hate new jersey, it is among the ugliest places i have ever been
baltimore wasnt a lot better
washington was great, we really liked the capital
shenandoah national park is awesome, we had a blast
virginia is the greatest state we have been to so far
talk to you guys soon - hopefully
very exhausted and turning in now
Don’t worry GR - it will get better. The south is typically very beautiful. Except for New Orleans - I’ve heard it’s dirty and scary!
Ouch. Was the harbor having a stinky day?
Sorry I couldn’t hook up with you. I’ve been ill/allergetic/whatever. Have fun in the South in summer!
In New Jersey’s defence, it is a national paradox. It has some of the most beautiful sites in our nation side-by-side with some of the most horrifying. You can’t know New Jersey by driving through it, you need to get off the highway and explore.
I would think you would be more polite about your homeland.
Have a great trip my friend. Can’t wait to hear more about the trip. Don’t forget to take a closeup picture of you with your New Jersey plates!
He didn’t actually get NJ plates - they were actually Florida plates - a place they aren’t even visiting.
Well, it’s not like there’ll be any shortage of them when they go back.
It’s gorgeous, the most recent Project 365 pics I’ve posted are from a hike we did there a few weeks ago.
Good to know I’m living in a nice place
Currently sitting in the lobby of Elvis Presleys Heartbreak Hotel in Memphis. We just came back from cocktails at the Hard Rock Cafe in Beale Street. Memphis is kind of okay, we liked Nashville better. Drove down a section of Natchez Trace Parkway today and went on a small hike. And then had a blast shopping in a huge mall in Wester TN. Rafting yesterday was AWESOME! And we hiked along the Blue Ridge Parkway a bit. We
re generally just having a great time in the South!
We`ll find out about New Orleans first hand tomorrow!
The harbor itself was pretty special, but getting there, driving through Baltimore wasnt really a nice experience, if you
ll excuse my saying so. It`s not a particularly safe city, is it?
Yeah, the state itself seems to be okay, we stumbled upon Princeton and that was a neat little town. And the campus was gorgeous, it looked a lot like something you`d find in England, that was beautiful. But Jersey City… just never mention the name of it again…
We actually had to echange the car at Dulles airport. The tires were so worn that I almost got us killed on an interstate exit in Delaware. We`re now driving a neat little Chevy Cobalt with Virginia plates. We love the car!
!!!
You really do! Even though moutainous west North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee is pretty awesome as well. Oh and we stopped in Staunton, a wonderful little town.
Hopefully Ill get a chance to keep you guys up to date soon. Will post pictures once we get back. Anybody who
s still up for a meet-up, contact us throught the phone number posted above. The phone is turned off most of the time but we check several times a day, so leave a message or text us!
Baltimore isn’t so bad. It’s safe enough to have been the focus and shooting location two of the best TV shows ever: Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Wire.
Hmmmm, maybe that point isn’t helping my argument…
It’s a dirty secret. The expansion West wasn’t because of finding gold, it was to get away from New Jersey.
Pre-hurricane Katrina I loved New Orleans. I don’t know what it is like now, but it pains me to think of it as “dirty and scary”. It was such a charming, beautiful and historically significant city. I want to go there again, but I’m afraid to, afraid of what it has become, especially when I hear comments like the above.
I’m anxiously awaiting GR’s assessment of it, though I know many of his assessments are quick ones, since the trip is so fast.
Uh oh… watch out for the Cobalt! The last time we had one as a rental car, it died on us. Twice. Evil. But I’m sure you’ll have better luck with it.
I’m glad you got to check out Staunton, it’s a nice day trip. So far it sounds like your crazy planning for this is paying off, so keep having a good time!
Yeah you weren’t in the prettiest part of NJ, there are some really nice places - but the are much further south and further to the east.
I am not a fan of driving in Baltimore either, and I grew up down that way.
Wow - those tires sound pretty bad. At least there were lots of places to exchange it. I own a Chevy Cobalt - which I love, so I can agree.
Glad you seem to be enjoying yourself, stay safe and have a good rest of the trip.
Hey everybody!
I hail from the great (in the truest meaning of the word) state of Texas. Austin is a beautiful city and youll get pictures and more in-depth assessments of the places we
re visiting after we get back. I just dont want to waste our precious time on the road for the internet. Hope you
re all doing great, I`ll say hi to the Alamo for you today
Good to hear your making it safely across the country.
Be careful not to pull an Ozzie Osbourne. Texans can be sensitive…
Oh!! I love Austin. Been there several times.
Make sure you have some Texas BBQ ribs while you there.
In the city, one of the good ones is Stubb’s Bar-B-Q. I guess they have live music at night, although I’ve only been there during the day.
Writing from Santa Fe tonight. Its amazing to see and experience the landscape change as you go further west. And I
ve never been to a place as lonely and remote as western Texas. That just doesnt exist where I
m from. it`s just amazing
saw the bats came out of carlsbad caverns last night, totally cool and really eerie!
Awww Austin! The itty bitty teensy weensy dot of blue in a big Texas-size red state. I had a great time there last year at a queer conference and even got to see a whole flock of bats come out at night!
P.S. Keep Austin weird!
Welcome to the West GR! A brother like you needs a theme song to be welcomed by. Watch out for the giant metal spiders, they run rampant in these parts.
