Fringe

Fringe feels like by-the-numbers sci-fi fare with some big names attached. Thumbs way down.

This week’s ep “The Transformation” was really good. Olivia’s ruthlessness with Hicks before Walter tranqed him was so hardcore. Then she gets rowdy with Broyles which results in the much-ancticipated reunion with John Scott’s notcorpse. Olivia’s always so eager to hop into the tank like it’s a hydraspa or something. I’m sure Walter’s homemade LSD helps. Olivia’s last scene with John Scott reminded me of that episode of ERwhen George Clooney and Julianna Marguiles were reunited. So I hope this is John’s last episode too.

Walter’s food of the week: Watermelon. Handy for experiments and tasty too.

Where the Observer was observed:Looks like they photoshop’d him onto the soccer field on the far left when the plane was going down. It looked like something fell from the plane right before it crashed.

Gross-out moment: Walter autopsying Porcupine Bowman and removing the innards. Yucky!

Next week Mr.Jones is baaaaack!

Fringe Comic #2 was released on Jan 28. There are supposed to be six in all.

I caught that too. It looked like something jumped or was ejected from the right side of the plane as it tilted in. At first I figured it was the “creature” bashing its way out and escaping … but that would’ve been too X-Files meets Underworld.

Walter’s comment about Olivia’s brain getting back to normal is the obvious out they need to keep her from abusing the Tank. The memories are going away, but I bet John comes back in physical form from Massive Dynamics… perfect cliffhanger/spoiler if Olivia and Peter grow closer.

Thanks, I’ll call and see if I can’t have it added to my BS:G subscription at the local shop.

Well… that just made things a LOT more complicated…

Invaders from a parallel universe? (Guess that explains the Observer)

Olivia dosed with an experimental drug (from Massive Dynamic, natch) as a child? That gives her… “abilities”? (Mr. Jones knew. Who else does? Broyles? Nina Sharp? (Presumably MD’s records show who got the experimental drug.))

Did Walter write the ZFT document in the first place? (Did he have his own copy? Why write “AbilitY”?)

And… no new episodes until April? WTF?

Do I remember right that Dr. Bishop worked with a colleague that started Massive Dynamic? Whom we haven’t met yet. Perhaps he wrote the ZFT.

Let’s see. In reverse order:

  1. It was written on Walter’s typewriter (the misplaced y in ability matches the misplaced y’s in the manuscript). Since he doesn’t remember writing it … it’s something he hasn’t done yet.

  2. Yes, that was interesting. Though the question is more complicated when you ask the following–did Massive Dynamics alter the past to ensure that the drug (which previous to Olivia asking the question HAD only been administered in one test) was used more than once, or was it something that MD just didn’t keep ready tabs on. The latter, actually, is less likely considering how fast the information came up on her Padd wannabe.

Which, btw, leads to another question–what was up with her hand. Makes you wonder if MD is actually on the wrong side of this secret little war.

  1. Creepy. But, if you can prove parallel universes exist, it’s not inconcievable you could learn how to travel between them. Esp. since it’s logical that “what is here will be there.” Imagine the parallel universe with a Walter in full control of his faculties and genius!

Good episode. And I’m curious as to what the HECK Jones became.

OK, now that’s scary. Though, it could explain why everything they keep running into just happens to be related to Walter’s old research; the parallel universe Walter could be the one causing a lot of this to happen.

And try this idea out… suppose there is a parallel universe version of John Scott out there (maybe one who watched a parallel Olivia die). What will happen if Olivia meets him?

And yeah, the mention of Nina Sharp’s hand bothered me. Why even bring it up unless it was important for some reason.

Finally, here’s a thought that occurred to me. Was it Olivia who turned off the lights, or Peter? It was only after he came back that the lights started going off and he was staring at the panel pretty intently too.

Edit: Hit post too soon. You ask if MD may be on the wrong side? Well, the ZFT document says that the other universe may be more advanced than our own. Maybe that is why Massive Dynamic is such a technologically advanced company. (After all, Nina’s hand is more advanced than anything else we’ve seen. Hmm… Maybe that’s why they brought it up!) Could Massive Dynamic actually be from the other universe.

For that matter, could the mysterious William Bell (who we have never seen, remember?) be the Walter from the other universe. Hmmm…

Thanx tanstaafl! I forgot his name…William Bell. I knew Walter worked with someone in the past.

Good call on the typewriter. I saw the letter but didn’t know what it was meant for.

Saw the Watcher when the newspaper man was attacked. Is he in every episode? Guess I’ll have to look for him in the future, but 7 weeks seems a long time to wait.

Yes, he is supposed to be but I haven’t seen him every time. The ones I remember are:

Ability - As you said
The Transformation - He’s on the soccer field watching the plane crash
Bound - He’s in the audience of the professor who dies
Safe - You see him briefly on one of the monitors before they are shut off
In Which We Meet Mr. Jones - Saw him but can’t remember where now
Power Hungry - Gets off the elevator just before the guy and the receptionist he is stalking get on
The Arrival - Of course
The Same Old Story - In the hospital as the girl is brought in

And they call him the Observer. The Watcher is a Marvel Comics character.

Here’s a mashup from YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ7k3s5UqUY. Little dated but you can find more by searching.

Does not look like FOX have a great deal of faith in the show either

Another fox pas, faux ?

Why do FOX even bother with these type of shows on mainstream broadcast TV? - Wouldn’t they be better off sending them down to payTV channels?

network TV does kind of suck generally in most countries as they rely on the masses.

Advertisers who target, would pay for the rights to advertise to their target audience

Fox has faith in Fringe, they just have more faith in the vapid American Idol fans.

Fringe has already been picked up by Fox for a second season. It’s only off the air now because of American Idol, and you can’t blame Fox for emphasizing it because AI does nothing but print money for Fox.

Actually, I can blame Fox for airing American Idol.

So why sweeps it under the carpet?

If William Bell was another Walter Bishop (same initials!), thing is that they worked together in the past. Wouldn’t that rip the space/time continuum to see and work with the same you from another universe? Does anyone here have a science background who could explain this? (I’m an Communications major  )

I think maybe Walter made the document in the past, but he just doesn’t remember because he went insane and was sent to the asylum (he does have memory lapses in the show). Or maybe he has a wife that’s a double agent who used the typewriter… oops, wrong show…

I hope Peter was also dosed with the same drug that Olivia was tested on when she was a child. It does seem like Walter did some unorthodox testing on Peter when he was a kid (brain zapping him when he was younger). All that testing could be un-documented, thus Massive Dynamic has no record of Peter Bishop having received it. Soo, maybe Peter clicked off those lights. Maybe.

Can’t wait to see more of this series!

After 7 long weeks, Fringe returns tonight. Dunno about you, but is a series candidate for a GWC podcast arc, especially if renewed.

Totally agree. Anybody interested in adding Fringe to the Frak Party rotation?
