Fringe

Guess what if you “look” hard enough, hint hint, you can find a pilot episode of it! It was amazing and I am so excited it is not even funny. This show is going to be amazing. And by the way pilot episode is 2 hrs long. which of course with commercials it is only 1hr and a half but it was just breathtaking… Thank you J.J. Abrams… Any questions pm me.

I am seriously considering a Fringe podcast please pm me or email me if you are interested in being involved on this podcast.

I may have found the pilot you mentioned and watched it this weekend. In a hypothetical way, I feel this has some mondo potential. Truly. Mondo.

Is Fringe that new JJ Abrams ?

And man I thought Hydracooler was about comics…Hail Hydra

Yes it sure is.

And thanks for the support.

The pilot was good. The only thing I can see now that it has going against it is its similarity to the X-Files, or at least that people and critics will think that since it has the FBI, supernatural, and conspiracies.

Since the X-Files movie is coming out soon I thought the Fringe ad was for X-Files. Now I will admit I was not watching closely the first time but I can see some people assuming the comparison. I have not yet seen the show.

I did see the pilot a while back, I remember it being not very impressive.
Fringe is ‘X-files moves to Hollywood’ 2.0 with it’s sunny darks and style over substance. While the X-files tried to terrify with you the horror next door, Fringe goes for the global catastrophe’s threatening the human race and safe airline travel. There’s just something superficial about the pretty cast, cheap one-liners, and shadowy organizations vs the the US secrecy police (who can’t find Saddam’s WMDs but are johnny-on-the-spot with decades old top secret fringe science) It’s sure to appeal to fans of Heroes and Alias, and to a lesser extent CSI with it’s easily digestible dessert sci-fi. It’s not exactly as gripping, sharp or mysterious as the Lost Pilot, or a character driven tour de force like the BSG miniseries, but it’s “easy-to-please” and in troubled times with a society less interested in real science, more interested in the plight and struggles of pretty people on TV, that’s a valued commodity.
Kicking things off with another downed plane (oh the irony) and some mild primetime gore. A plucky blonde FBI agent fresh off the catwalk and ready for 2 lingerie scenes in under 90 min (a record?) is ready to protect America when no else can or wants to. Sadly she lacks the stalwart skepticism of Scully or the imaginative conviction of Mulder, but she does have doe-eyed naivete and the power of love on her side. There’s a government and corporate conspiracy (is there any other kind?) letting science run loose. And it’s an overacting mad scientist (an ACTUAL mad scientist) to the rescue. But he’s a good guy who wants to save the world too, since of course being institutionalized in our Mental Healthcare system obviously has that effect on patients. But a reunion with his underachieving genius con-artist son springs him into action. I guess someone in the writing staff was afraid of nerds and hated science class in high school. So the trio proceeds to save Ms.FBI’s from her boyfriend from a 1970s secret biochemical weapons breakthru (finally being put to use) and an eventual plot twist.
On the plus for me Joshua Jackson has a supporting role here (or is a major one? He seems just as scared to commit as his character is lol) I always thought he was a capable actor that never found any opportunity to shine. He can be an effective and authoritative lead and has a shade of that sort of old movie charisma that George Clooney sports in his old age. Maybe he’ll reach the heights on Fringe that the Mighty Ducks and Dawson’s Creek couldn’t give him.

I expect Fringe to go the way of Bionic Woman. They seem to have the same ingredients and level of execution but ultimately a package deal that doesn’t seem get off the the ground.

Big ups to Spongebob whose cameo saves the second act. Thanks Spongebob.

it’s inevitable that it will be compared to X-FIles for a while, but i trust JJ Abrams to take it in interesting directions. it seems like he definitely has an underlying mythology to build upon. i’ll probably watch it when it airs.

i also liked Denethor from LOTR as the crazy old professor guy.

did anyone else notice some of Michael Giacchino’s score from Lost during one part?

There is now a Fringe podcast if you are interested you can find it at http://fringedwellerspodcast.blogspot.com

I’m so tempted to go find the pilot but at the same time, I think I’d rather watch it on TV when most people I know will. In a way I think it would kinda ruin it. I am very exited though, considering I am a huge Lost fan.

How could you not? I was never a huge X-files fan, but I enjoyed the occasional episode. It is impossible not to draw a parallel.

I enjoyed the pilot (pardon the pun) episode. Not totally hooked yet, but think so far, so good.

great show… good plot and very entertaining

I really dug the character Dr. Walter Bishop. It was bugging me where I saw him from. At first I thot I was grossed out by his appearance in the cell but then I remembered he played Denethor from LotR and I’ve never been more disgusted watching someone eat, the slurping and splurting. Ugh!

Anyway, I really hope they focus on Dr. Bishop and his fight against the super-corporation. I really liked the part when Olivia meets with exec and she removes her skin to reveal a robotic arm.

This is a perfect summation of my thoughts.

The arm was cool but it looked WAY too “OMG CGI LOOK!” to me. Also, I wish they had made any effort at all to show super smart scientists taking any safety precauthions at all with their lab work. Like, no one just wheels in the guy with the crazy body-dissolving injury and leaves him in a dusty basement! And they ought to have scrubbed up and washed their hands before touching him! The Fringe pilot showed potential but I don’t think I will have the time to add another tv show to watch and I will be prioritizing Dollhouse.

I enjoyed the pilot episode last night. It was reminiscent of the non-mythology episodes of X-Files. It’s not BSG quality but it’s a good enough show to kill some time with on Tuesday nights.

Oh yeah! I was trying to think where I’ve seen the guy from.

I’m digging the series from just the Pilot. We’ll see if the show can hold my attention.

Cool…thanks for the info. I’ll check it out!

Watched the pilot last night. I agree with previous posts regarding comparisons to ‘The X-Files,’ which I was a big fan of, and that it does not compare in many respects to the depth of story/character in BSG.

‘Fringe’ grabbed my attention enough to keep watching though.

I was okay with the arm but agree with you on the rest. I’m willing to give it a shot since all my real favorites come back in January and I do think it showed potential. I just hope I don’t end up feeling like I wasted my time like I did with Bionic Woman.

For me, Bionic Woman felt like, “I really don’t want to be watching this.” Fringe had some really interesting moments. So, I’ve already got a good vibe about it.

We’ll see tomorrow.
