Updated handstand pushups
Feedback, more range of motion? Am I bobbing my head up and down and not going anywhere? I feel stronger and I think my arns.shouders and back are getting thicker.

pilates tonight made me rethink how strong I am, during side plank by the third rep my arm had collapsed, happened on the second rep the other side, still I am getting stronger so screw it keep going.
plus I made a new friend who’s about the same weight as me and wants to lose weight with me, me and her are gonna support each other, even though we live 4,000 miles apart.

That’s awesome, Bishop! I still have to do my HSPUs awkwardly using the boxes we use for box jumps. I think your motion is great, definitely using your arms for the motion and making motion up and down. Keep it up, those are hard!!
Woohoo pilates! Planks take a while to get right so keep at it, Phazed! And great that you’ve found someone to stay motivated with. Motivation and dedication are 90% of what you need to get fit
Mr. Lister, Sir and I did another CrossFit workout yesterday. 21-15-9 of: squat cleans - plank twisters - sit-ups with a 50m bear crawl forward and back at the end of each set of reps. It was a good one and I beat the set time by a few seconds. Bad news though, I hurt my shoulder doing some extra ab work at the end (you may ask how do you hurt your shoulder while doing sit-ups, and I would say I really don’t know but somehow it happened and now it hurts) so I’m taking today off and I’ll try to keep icing and go for a run on Saturday and hope that it doesn’t hurt with the motion.

Yay! I ran a mile today for the first time since the last cortisone shot. It was a slow mile but I did it and I’m not even in pain right now.
Followed that up with 9 miles on the bike. Have a gym date tomorrow morning and will likely focus on legs and core. Ate chocolate pudding tonight and it was delicious!
Got to get back to it tomorrow. The lead up to and follow up from my trip to Iowa really disrupted my pattern. I’ve probably gained back a good chunk of the weight I lost since I started keeping track.
Yep, back up to 286.6
Yoga’s been going great, I have a weekly class I love and do it on my own 5 times a week, so I usually only miss one day. I’m looking forward to trying to get more walking in, because while I feel like I’m building great strength and flexibility with yoga (my chaturanga dandasanas are actually decent these days!), I want more cardio. And as I live in an area with lots of… let’s call them hills… I should be able to get decent cardio. So instead of taking the bus to the grocery, I’ll walk! (and take the bus home…)
I’m also very excited about it coming into summer here, and the delicious food options that will be available. I love fresh, local produce, and it’s best in the summer. Yay!
Impressive hand stand push ups, Bishop! I didn’t know what you were talking about and searched for HPSU and inadvertently discovered the Hartford Party Starters Union in Hartford, Connecticut.
I’ve signed up for a 5-day 50-mile march to protest the destruction of one of our beloved mountains in West Virginia, Blair Mountain. It’s slated to be leveled by mountaintop removal, and it also happens to be the site of one of the largest labor battles in US history. So I’m killing about three birds with one stone on the trip. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to keep up with the hippies who are half my age, but I’m going to try.
I walked 5 miles today as part of my preparation, and I’m not quite dead. I’ll keep you posted.
Wolverines!
I read that as you were doing 5X50 mile marches…
Ha! Frankly, I’ll be lucky if I can finish the 50 miles in 5 days!
Last week sucked. I didn’t go to the gym once and I’m trying to get back on track this week. Ah, well.
You can do it!
Sometimes you have a bad week. You get back on the horse. Or the treadmill or the arc trainer or the bike. I have faith.
I had a great workout today. By the end I couldn’t feel my legs–pushed right to the edge. I was riding that perfect endorphin high… and then things fell apart a little…
Another reason I am glad to have invested in working with a trainer: my workouts in the past 2 months have not been light and breezey. I would have been happy to keep doing them and would have gotten lots of health benefits. But Hanna pushes me to do more, harder things, every time I master something. For example, we went from holding planks for 30 seconds to holding them for 45 seconds to holding them one-armed while reaching out and tapping a ball or Hanna’s shoe with the other. Pretty soon I’ll be as fit as I’ve ever been. My previous high point was the year I ran cross country (16 years old…). I don’t know that I’ll ever be a distance runner again but, damn, I’m a total beast and it’s HOT.
on the personal trainer thing , I totally agree SB, they brought in a new one for me on Saturday, i went from doing tricep extensions with a 2 pound weighted ball to doing them with a ten pound kettle bell, again utter exhaustion but stepping things up a level.
I’m not really losing any weight but I am getting a lot fitter, I can walk further with less breathlessness and my recovery time between exercises has shot up.
One thing I have learned is not to pant if I feel out of breath, deep, controlled breths inhaling right down in to the stomach is the key, it’s hard to master as my brain wants me to pant like a hot dog but I’m getting there.

It always makes me feel good when I get back in the gym, and I haven’t lost too many steps. Sometimes I basically stop by the gym and take a shower just to get back in the swing of things. Well…I do 20 minutes or whatever and then take a shower.
I’ve realized that there’s a couple drawbacks to going to the gym where I work. Obviously it’s free, which is huge. But 1) I don’t teach during the summer, so I don’t want to go to the place where I work. 2) Even when school is in session, I never get to the gym on Saturday or Sunday. I try to do workouts at home weekends, but it’s usually not as good. And 3) One of the things I love about the gym is leaving the workday behind, but it’s very hard to leave the stress of work behind when technically I’m still at work.
I’m thinking about biting the bullet and getting a gym membership, even though my gut tells me I’m wasting money. Anybody else in this gym-at-work boat?
My big 5-day, 10-miles-a-day protest march is starting next Monday, though.
I’m doing another 5-mile practice hike tomorrow morning.

That’s actually why I don’t go to the gym. That said, I don’t do “gym” exercise regularly, either (I walk, I do t’ai chi, I do yoga).
I don’t do Gym myself either. Mainly because of the price but mainly because I have arthritis in my back and hips so no hard exercise.
What I do is put on my Sony Walkman, crank up my fave podcasts (This one of course) and take a long walk every day.
Doing this for the last few years I have gone from a pant size of 55 to 50 and still walking it off.
It’s the long game but I have found I eat a lot less and am not as hungry anymore.
.
I have worked out 4 times this week and I’m going to the gym tomorrow, so that makes 5. My weekly assignment is 3. Hooray for extra wolverines time!
WVLou: Audra and I are really happy with the gym. Obviously you have to watch out as some places can be a rip off. But just read the contract carefully and make sure there’s no funny business. We work out at 24 Hour Fitness, and they just charge first and last month up front. You can quit anytime, and the pricing is pretty reasonable. I know some people here like Lifetime or other more fancy places better, which is fine I guess. We don’t really need the bling, so we chose a basic place.
Other than that, it’s just the gym. If you’re used to using one, you already know how it works and what you want to do. Just make sure you choose one that has a facility nearby that has the gear you need.
Do ignore the anti-gym sentiment, though. It’s true that you don’t have to go to a gym to get fit, but it is one of the easiest ways to do so. They take have a much wider variety of equipment than most people can afford at home, which helps keep you from getting stuck doing the same workouts day in and day out – which a common cause of “plateauing” (and then quitting sometimes). And they maintain the gear, etc. Don’t get me wrong: I’d love to have an elliptical at home. But I’m happy paying a few bucks a month for tons of equipment instead of $1500 for a rickety setup at home that I have to maintain (and move someday, too).
Anyway, Ito everyone (including me) and do what’s right for you. Bottom line: do what you need to do to get your exercise in.
Last week wasn’t great. I got to the gym on Monday and then I was too sick and then I left town for the weekend. I tried for the most part to watch what I ate. Even at the big party on Sunday I kept it pretty low volume wise.
I plan on getting to the gym today, the rest of the week will be rough but I’m trying…
hey gang, been a while since I’ve checked in
wasn’t doing that well for a while, started getting back on track then I twisted my ankle last week
however this week is starting off good and the ankle is feeling pretty good, I’m thinking I’m going to give jogging a shot on Thursday!
