Finally reached summer weight, for this year

us here up in the far north tend to put on a few pounds in the winter, but lost that weight and a little more which means I can now fit into some clothes I haven’t been able to wear for years. Now I just have to start building some muscle, but gods do i hate weight training.

Thinking a regiment of pushups crunches and pilates. Any advice on making it easier

241 - Cholesterol

WooT!

As a bonus, I’ve lost 12lbs. (230 down to 218)

My blood results said my triglycerides was 355 mg/dL. I gotta work on getting that down. I’m told oatmeal, fruit, and salmon will do the trick. What say y’all?

Go WOLVERINES!!

Great work Talos! Any fiber helps in that regard, simply increasing the amount of vegetables on your plate will benifit you, and not just will the colesteral. You will be boosting your nutritional benies as well, vitamins, aminos and so forth; a double bonus! Omega 3’s will help balance you against the inflamitory side effects of the BAD COLESTERAL (LDL) and help flush it out, any cold water fish or shellfish will be rich in Omega 3s. Supplements (from a reputable source) can help buffer the expense of buying lots of seafood if you live too far inland, or replace the seafood if you are allergic to it or simply don’t like seafood.

I love it but live in the frakking desert so it is expensive!

Hoorah! Keep it up Wolverine!

241 - Cholesterol . . . As a bonus, I’ve lost 12lbs.

That is awesome. Wolverines!

I’m feeling better and more motivated than I did last week, and I haven’t missed any weight lifting days, so go us!

hey folks,

well done everyone, I’m just back from my second pilates class, an hour of pretty intense stuff, I’m wrecked but am quite happy with he effort involved and surfing the endorphins high.

Not lost any wieght yet but i’ll be walking and doing the personal trainer thing twice a week as well as the Pilates.

Lost 3 pounds this week. Down 43 total. WOLVERINES!!!

SB- you are gonna get me dancin’ the 2-step!

A nice tumbler of tequila… WOLVERINES! hic

…and now I AM dancing… LIKE A FRAGGLE!! WOOT! WOOT!!

Like Omra says- have an ORGY on your plate! Orange, Red, Green, Yellow! The more color, the healthier it is! lol
Also, a teaspoon or two of wheat germ on/in whatever you’re eating once or twice a day, helps, too!

passes pom-poms to Nike and Baco WOLVERINES!!

I like Men’s Health workouts for the simple reason that having something printed on a piece of paper that somebody else came up with is the kind of structure I need. Then I’m not just guessing about what to do and how much. Personally, any wiggle room becomes an excuse not to do something. Here’s an example of one that I found, but it’s a little too advanced for me at this point:
http://my.menshealth.com/workout/Fire-up-your-fat-burners

Having said all this, I’m just today digging myself out of another hole because work has been kicking my ass for the last few weeks. But the hard part of the year is behind me, so I’m getting back on the horse today.

Three things:

  1. Woot to all the Wolverines!

  2. Bought a new digital scale (non-food scale) and dang it, it weighs me 5 lbs heavier than the old one (analog) which wasn’t working right anymore. Could have been worse, could have been 10 lbs heavier.

  3. My Trek (mountain bike) is now in the garage w/tires inflated, trunk rack next to it ready to roll out. If it quits frakkin raining this week I’ll head down to the riverfront trail with it since the river is no longer out of it’s banks. Woot!

Aset, this sounded like it was right out of my own head! I don’t know what the answer is in terms of the adjustment to weight/fitness maintenance, but I do know this: You are not alone in worrying (though we should worry less!), and we have done soooo much to get here. It’s just another step along the way. We can doo eet!

Bkitty and Starbuccaneer, Agreed! I think the crying is a stress release, like Barb said. Sometimes crying happens for reasons we don’t expect – and Bkitty’s grandma sounds like a wise woman. Lol! On the yawning - I do that a lot, too, in the hardest parts of my workouts. I’ve seen Olympic athletes force-yawn before a race, so I assumed it was related to oxygen as well. Also, my ears tend to plug up during hard workouts; the trainer said it’s swelling from heightened blood pressure and it goes down again after your workout.

Ferris!!! Good to see you, man. I have issues with getting hungry at night, too. I’ve had to kind of train myself to eat at the most beneficial times, but for those nights when you’re truly too hungry to ignore it anymore, our trainer recommended nonfat cottage cheese, with or without pineapple chunks. It’s high protein and very slowly digested. Good luck with your training! Strengthening your back will make a huge difference in how you feel, methinks. You can do eet!!

Go, LadyD! Let us know how you feel as you get into your routine!

Mr. Lister, That is awesome!! You continue to inspire me with the way you push yourself so hard in your workouts. Last weekend I ran my fastest mile yet: 10 minutes, 16 seconds. I was so proud. I am also not a “runner” – but a friend of mine who runs says it’s not something I should see as “talent” but rather it’s something you get used to, just like anything else. I like running sometimes, but don’t intend to run as a main form of exercise. Anyway, keep posting updates; you’re doing awesome! Looking forward to hearing when you break the 10 minute mark!

Doug!! That is awesome!! You might check to see if your 24 Hour Fitness does the free one-hour orientation with a trainer (ours does). They set you up with a person who takes a whole bunch of baseline measurements, then gives you a brief tour and shows you some basic exercise techniques, and finally gives nutrition advice. Way to go, man!!

Looks great! Is it a plum color like it appears on my screen, or is that just me? I need to get me one of those…

Hey DR, don’t beat yourself up. Even though you’re exhausted, you’ve drug yourself in, and that is a sign of inner strength. I always think of what they call “heart” in boxing, and how much of a difference that makes in determining the outcome of a match.

Also, keep in mind that some exercise is better than none. If you can’t get your full workout in, even 30 minutes walking will help, and will likely make you feel better inside and out. Keep up the good work! We all have setbacks now and then - you can get through it!

Kirokai, wow!! congrats on losing 40 lbs. so far!! That, girlfriend, is nothing to sneeze at.

Getting healthy is a great motivator when we see in our family members what can one day happen to ourselves. Heart disease with multiple bypasses, diabetes, and high blood pressure problems are rampant in my family. I lost my dad to a heart attack when he was only 46, and he turned out to have been diabetic (they discovered afterward). This shocked me because he wasn’t extremely overweight – but I guess the insides were in worse shape than it seemed. :frowning:

Way to go for taking what is a very brave leap into self-examination and a path to getting healthy. You deserve to have a happy, long life, and now you’re improving it all the time! Big hugs

Wolverines!!! You can do this, no problem! By the way, I learned from our trainer that eating breakfast is an important part of getting fit. You need to kick-start your metabolism early in the day in order to burn calories and have energy from the morning on, as opposed to ramping up and not eating until lunch. Missing meals can easily lead to putting on fat, for many reasons which I can detail elsewhere. So eat your Wheaties, yo. And good luck!

Me too. Great video, B!

Hey, lady! Good for you! I know a 40-minute drive is a bit of an obstacle (I grew up in Northern NY too) but maybe you can try to make it a sacred kind of “me” time. You can listen to your favorite music or audiobook on the way, and think about how the workout is time just for yourself, and treat it as a health measure that can’t be compromised or brushed aside for other things. You’ll do great – let us know how you feel in your next week!

'Talos, I am sooooooo proud!! I’ve been thinking about you and wondering how you’ve been doing. I know it was pretty crappy news hearing from the doctor you needed to change some things. Look at you- you’re kicking ass!

Gryper, Sweet! I’ve wanted to try mountain biking at some point, too, though around here there aren’t too many mountains, unless you count on-ramps. grin Way to go getting the bike out! I bet summer weather is gorgeous up there, too.

Well we have some mounds/hills that qualify as mountains here in Illinois. None are near me and all are shorter than the 3 tallest buildings in Chicago. There are some trails that I ride but none that are at parks anymore, they are too eroded to ride safely on a bike. And have been taken over by ATCs or ATVs these days.

exercising can be adictive I thinks, not long back from my power plate workout, 2nd one in three days and, despite having pilates on thbursday I’ve beooked another one in for WEd, so I think, assuming it doesn’t kill me altogether I’ll be doing personal trainer three times a week, pilates thursdays and on sundays, well Sundays I’m gonna walk or possibly do feic all, one needs a day of rest right?

I’m starting to watch what I eat this week, so I’m hoping to see some weight loss.

To all you guys, woah, I’m so blown away by both your efforts and the results, my long term goal is still to be healthy weight by next meet up.

I eat most foods. I love most healthy foods. Flax, buckwheat, beets, peas, spinach, love it all. Cottage cheese is my kryptonite. I feel like throwing up when I just smell it.

Appropriately, I’m sitting here munching on sesame crackers as I catch up on the most important threads. It was a long, long day. Got up at 6:30, had a doctor appointment, worked for 9 hours, WOLVERINES time, came home and worked until 11:30. Then I took a Tylenol PM to assist/force my brain to transition to sleep and logged on here. And needed a snack. Sesame crackers to the rescue.

Last week was rough because I got really sick. Was at the doctor twice and needed antibiotics, the whole thing. So I skipped a workout for the first time since the meetup. My body could totally tell! My muscles were so tight when I finally did get back to it on Saturday.

I normally never work past 10 unless it’s a true emergency. It isn’t but if I didn’t push hard tonight I would have to skip my friend’s going away party tomorrow after work, so it was worth it. Stressful, but worth it. Even in college I only worked past midnight during finals! I am not one of those mystical people who can go on 5 hours sleep.

I can tell that I am getting stronger. It’s kind of awesome. Caught a glimpse of my back in the mirror the other day and was like, “where did that muscle definition come from?!” And one of my friends actually commented on my arms over the weekend. I live in my body every day so it’s easy to forget to notice little positive changes as they happen. It was awesome to hear that other folks see it! I was like, “I am a BEAST!”

Now I need to go to bed.

I definitely have the ipod with me when I go. In fact the tredmills are equipped to hook your ipod right to it and the controls are next to the ones for the tredmills . There are tv’s on each machine too but not any channels I watch. But I love my ipod, I never listen to the radio anymore it is always podcasts and audio fiction.

I made 3 visits in week one last week. I have only made one this week so far - its been kind of crap around here. I went last nigh on the way home from the boyfriend’s. I almost talked mysellf out of it since I was so tired (fell asleep while watching POTC3) but I went anyway and did the treadmill until my knee started to hurt. Not terrible considering it was midnight

My plan is to get up and go before babysitting tomorrow and then to go Friday night after babysitting all day then my best friend’s graduation in the evening. That will get my three in this week. Baby steps.

The hub and I are almost done with the current 21 day challenge! Friday is our last day and then a break!

I had to go out and pick up a couple more boob-slingers and bottoms to avoid the high water bill from last time’s repeated washings.

ok. So it was burpeeburpeeburpee Monday, of this week.

We are killing it with side shuffles, jump squats, ladders, etc, and suddenly things got a bit chilly on one side and floppy!

I peek inside my ossim Ripley & Newt Bubbleshooter tee and found one of the girls had ESCAPED!

I almost fell to the ground laughing! Those of you who know me know this is true.

the hub just shook his head smiling.

See? Workouts can have fun-filled and unexpected surprises!

WOLVERINES!! fwump

Well, I’m back home. Not sure if I’ll exercise today because Rodney’s pretty needy and I owe him a lot of attention

Nothing much is happening, I’ve lost a couple of pounds so I’m still just under teh 15 stone range (210lbs). Other than that, workouts are good, I haven’t been to the gym but I have been doing my mobility exercises and I’ve also been practising the handstand pushups and the range of motion is getting better all the time.

I have to say that doing the HSPU is really working as my shoulders and arms feel thicker (I mean they have to be to support my fat arse in the air) :).

I’ll post a link to show you guys and see if I’ve improved.

Just though I’d post what is now going to be a typical week for me, starting may 12th
Thursday: Pilates one hour
Friday nowt but planned walking
Saturday: Power plate with personal trainer 30 mins
Sunday : bloomin rest day!
Monday: power plate 30 mins
Tueday 4 mile walk
Wed: power plate

and loop and repeat.

No weight loss but I feel fitter and my recovery time between exercises has dropped significantly  whereas tuesday of last week it was taking me almost a minute from each workout, now it only takes 15 seconds, admittedly longer on the second circuit through.
wolvernes!

It’s been a while since I’ve been in here as I’ve been ‘Wolverine’-ing on Twitter and have had family in town for a week which seriously cuts down on my much-needed forum time, but…

It’s good to see everyone keeping up and staying motivated and motivating! I know for me, often times, I push through a workout just so I can say Wolverines! and feel proud to tweet and post my workouts on here when I remember.

My fun update:
I ran the Georgia Warrior Dash on Sunday, which was amazing! It’s a 3 mile (I’m not 100% sure they measured properly, but still) course with obstacles placed throughout. Some of the obstacles were swimming through a bog, running through tires, rope-climbing over a ~25ft wall, crawling through a tunnel, swimming under barbed wire, over 5 ft walls/under barbed wire, over logs in a bog, a mud crawl, climbing over cars/trucks (I crawled through the truck bed), and LEAPING OVER FIRE!
I sort of felt like I was in some intense zombie training between the up-a-mountain running, climbing walls and trucks, and with the tired people along the trail avoiding each other and running from the masses pushing from behind you. I also got a viking helmet (major reason why I decided to run in the end).
My time was 32.45 for the whole race. Mostly why I don’t believe it was a 3-mile run because I know I run that in about 26-30 depending on how I’m feeling and the obstacles definitely took longer than adding about 4-6 minutes to my normal 5K time. Either way, it was a tons of fun and I wish I could have run it again after it was over.

The other great part about the Warrior Dash, besides the free beer at the end, was the costumes. I don’t know how people ran 3miles and swam through water in some of them but here’s a short list I can remember: Papa Smurf (who’s blue paint didn’t come off, even after he raced), the Flinstones family, quite a few Mario & Luigi pairs, Super Heros galore, Legend of the Hidden Temple (complete with gold helmets), a wedding party (the bride’s dress turned brown- she was dirtied by the race, for shame), Power Rangers, and random other outfits. I didn’t dress up, but I am hoping that my family will all join me next year to run and we would do a group costume type thing.

So I would suggest that if there is a Warrior Dashnear you at any point and you want a fun something to do on a weekend, try it out! The people watching and the viking helmet were completely worth the registration fee, plus you get some zombie survival practice. I ran for time, but it is the kind of race that you could run/jog/walk through just for fun and excercise and no one will say anything to you, especially if you wear a kilt or just a fun outfit. Go WOLVERINES!
