First Friday without BSG (ever agaiin)

Last night, Chuck and I had a funny experience that reminded us just how much we’ve learned about BSG (and from BSG) over the last few years. We were at a little get-together with a few friends/acquiantances and they were talking about sci-fi stuff, so we of course gathered 'round. This guy mentioned Battlestar and said he hadn’t “caught up” on all the episodes yet. I asked him how far he’d gotten, and he couldn’t remember, so I asked him how many Cylons he was aware of.

Guy: “There’s that one guy…with the radiation…who got beaten up by…not Apollo. Who’s Apollo’s dad?”
Me: “…Adama?”
Guy: “That’s him! Yeah. I guess that’s where I left off.”
Me: sigh

Nnnnoooooooooo! LOL. I don’t understand how people just…fade away from BSG like that. It kept me riveted–and impatient to be re-riveted, during the hiatus–from beginning to end.

OMG!!! So he never got past the miniseries? Man that’s weird. I don’t know how you could NOT want to immediately watch the entire rest of the series after that.

For real. The Boomer reveal sealed my love affair with the show.

If he had doubts - if he had just watched “33”. That espisode is like “The Wrath of Khan” (or John Ford’s “Fort Apache” in my particular case) - one can watch it over and over.

For sure 33 is a mutch better episode than the miniseries. But man - the miniseries sets up so much and it was so good that it really made me want to watch the series. I don’t get how you could watch it and then be like “eh - no thanks”

I honestly didn’t have too much backlash from the lack of BSG this Friday, since I made a smooth transition to Dollhouse. Okay, well it wasn’t perfect, since it took awhile for Dollhouse to find its feet, but I’m very happy with the direction it’s going. It’s just Firefly enough for me to be thoroughly entertained.
Secret organization funded by creepy pharmaceutical corporation, turning people into super weapons/hot dates - sound vaguely familiar?
For those of you who are interested and haven’t checked it out yet, I will second the notion that you must stick it out to episode 6.

I thought the miniseries was great - I was hooked from the scene of Adama in his quarters in shirtsleeves, taking the call from CIC that the Cylons were attacking. “I’ll be right there” and the look on EJO’s face. Never forget it. Wish I had a framed still of him hanging up the (wired) phone.

I stopped watching BSG during the “Helo and that cylon are running through the woods yet again” episodes. Obviously started watching again eventually.

It can happen.

Weirdly, that’s where I came in (“Water” I think.) Hooked me but good.

Wow, it just hit me. BSG is over.

Sometimes I’m in delayed-reaction mode. This is one of those times. I’ve been wondering why I haven’t been able to post hardly at all in any of the discussions since the Finale. I think this rocket-ship-ride leading to the finale left me numb when the end credits rolled. I haven’t even been able to re-watch Daybreak 2 yet.

But today, here at work, I have Bear McCreary’s most excellent soundtrack playing. I am so familiar with the music by now, that scenes play out in my mind, and it really just hit me. I’m choked up and my eyes are brimming. Believe me, when I say I am not a crier.

I say to myself, “Hey, pull your socks up. It’s just a TV show. Get a grip.” So I turn to you, my GWC comrads and know you will understand. Thanks for listening.

I think it was Aaron Douglas who said that those episodes were rather draggy.

ETA: No, don’t have a link, I saw him say that in person at a con.

I keep hoping that Bear will compose a BSG orchestral suite. He composed the gamut for the show - lovely melodies, martial music, you name it. I would buy the CD (or down load it) unheard.

The frak? Those were pretty Chief-centric episodes.

One other thing - if you haven’t already, spend some tmie on the Caprica threads. Check out the clips (they will intrigue, not spoil). Caprica is not going to “replace” BSG, but, boy it’s looking pretty good. And, I swear NBTR, I think we are going to learn a lot more about Colonial religion - including the Lords.

(I’m thinking of it as sort of a methadone program for BSG junkies.)

You know - I always assumed that the Lords of Kobol were - like - gods of some kind. Maybe they were just the aristocracy…like “Good morning Lord Kobol - how was the debutante ball last night?”

Maybe he wanted more Chief and less running around and hiding.

Many thanks, OT.
May the Lords of Kobol reveal themselves.

Yeah - that’s kind of like my life.

I always figured they were humanoid Cylons that somehow turned the tables on the humans and became their “masters”. Given the right circumstances - they certainly could appear “godlike”.

Starbuck’s reappearance provides possibilities here too.

This is one Caaprica spoiler (not from the clips) that is out there (fairly reliable source) that I only pass along, because it so cheered me up - seriously. Towards the end or at the end of the pilot/miniseries
we meet our first old style Centurion Cylon - “By your command” and all. Chills city.
I am SOOO excited.
