I know I’m probably almost alone in his, but I liked the Bionic Woman remake. It wasn’t great, but it was really starting to find its feet in the last couple episodes (plus Starbuck was awesome in it ). I wish the Writers Strike hadn’t killed the rest of the episodes it should have had, even if it didn’t get a second season.
You are totally not alone in that!
My wife and I were completely digging that show and then it…well… it just ended. Damn you, universe!
It was uneven, but had potential. I loved how unhinged Starbuck was in it; in fact, I preferred her there to later-episodes Kara Thrace.
I couldn’t keep up with Terriers. I watched the last couple eps and cleared the rest off the DVR. Now I miss it.
Fellow Freaks and Geeks fans, if you’ve never read it, TV critic extraordinaire Alan Sepinwall wrote long blog posts about every episode during a rewatch of the show. They start here.
My favorite episode is Dead Dogs & Gym Teachers. I won’t say why yet, don’t want to ruin it for the newcomers.
I have found that lots of the series mentioned above were just way too ahead of its time to really iniate with an audience. I know alot of people now who talk about how wonderful Firefly is but back in the day it was few and far between. I think we will get the same feedback on Dollhouse in a few years to come. I give a nod to all previous shows for their lame early cancellation. But if I had to choose I would pick:
Howl: The source matierial was this excellent book of short stories that came out in the early 80s about a town under the protection of a pack of werewolves. Its an amazing read, but sadly no longer in print. I remember reading them as a kid and was totally fascinated by the world of the supernatural and the horror elements of the story. When I heard FearNet was planning on turning it into a mini-series, possible series, I was stoked (if that meant also a re-released of the book). Sadly it aired on Halloween night, the same night as The Walking Dead, and FearNet did little to no promotion, and didn’t even air it in every timezone. So it never went beyond that. Making it worse for wear, the network won’t release it on DVD and is refusing to re-air or let go of the rights to allow them to take it elsewhere. If I had known I would have kept it on my DVR and posted it on YouTube for all the Howl fans.
No one mentioned Stargate Universe yet?
shakes fist at Syfy
Made it to that episode.
One of two reasons:
Total Who Soundtrack or the Squeeze Box and the Weirs. giggle
nice choice pike the one kicked butt
Worst part is, I can’t even find it (aside from the pilot) on DVD.
Is that scene with Bill’s latchkey snack one of the most moving scenes ever? Not to mention the rest of the episode. Man, I wish we could have seen Tom “Biff” Wilson do some more dramatic work.
my buddy had some dvd’s of them but they were not “official…” so bet its out there just not legally
I had many of those latchkey moments, totally related.
Bill is my favorite character. I love his honesty and straight-forward attitude. I would totally be friends with Bill. Every scene he is in is great.
Awww, man! Lindsey is turning into a Deadhead. frown
Cartman to the rescue. “HIPPIES!”
Helluva show, huh? Great ending.
Kim Kelly – she’s 18, right? Even if she’s not, she turns up in Undeclared, and she’s h-o-t-t.
If you’re a Busy Philips fan she’s on Cougartown.
Everything that had happened converged on that one moment when Lindsay put the Vice President on the spot. She had conformed her ideals for the sake of all, and then rebelled for the dream of one. Brilliant.
It makes sense that Lindsay would side with the fringe (Deadheads) since the freaks, geeks, jocks, nerds, adults, and parents had all disappointed her. Kim Kelly switched her alpha allegiance from Daniel to Linsay, having witnessed the impact Lindsay’s intellect had on her world. Daniel was a fading star.
Too bad this didn’t get a chance to expound. I think Lindsay was headed into the realm of manifestos and remote cabins, after the fallout of the war between Yuppies and Hippies. I could see her starting her own cult.
Anyone remember Starman? Lasted one season and I adored the story and characters.
Space: Above and Beyond was really, really, really underrated. It wasn’t the greatest show in history, and certainly had weaknesses, but definitely deserves mad props if only for how much it influenced the depiction of ‘space carrier’ life in future shows (e.g. Stargate(s), BSG). It really had the vibe of a Starship Troopers TV series, sans random and unnecessary shower scenes >.>
One show I’ve always wished there had been more of was The Jim Henson Hour. It was only on the air for a few months in 1989, but the episodes were incredibly entertaining. The show had a very bizarre format to it. The first half-hour of each episode consisted of various skits in the vein of those on The Muppet Show framed within the context of Kermit and a weird android running a TV network. The second half-hour was a (usually incredibly dark) short film that used puppetry to varying degrees in order to retell classic myths and legends, and these were framed as stories being told to the audience by a strange old ‘Storyteller’ played by John Hurt in prosthetic makeup. Occasionally, the full hour would be a single short, such as the classic film noir spoof “Dog City.” I’m still holding out hope that they’ll eventually be released on DVD. The Storyteller segments got a nice DVD treatment a few years back (largely because it spun off into its own HBO series), but the ‘Muppet Central’ half of the shows only live on as VHS bootlegs.
As I’m rejoining the forum I hope people can forgive all these multi-quote posts I’m doing. Just discovering the gold you people have all been writing in my absence.
As others have said, nope, not alone
This is the one that I am most bummed about. I thought it had a great mix of characters/actors, I mean Summer Glau as a Terminator. Plus there was a pretty big cliffhanger. Most people who know me don’t know that I am an absolute Terminator freak. T2 is my all time favourite, desert island movie - I have no idea how many times I’ve seen it, but it gets a run several times each year. So sad SCC got axed.
I agree, having the two Epitaph episodes really drew it all together. Still pisses me off though.
I love this!! What a great line.
Yep, almost goes without saying. Except we have to say it.
I second what others have said. Impressive plots in place for a second season by the end, however the pace was too slow for me. I only kept watching because I’m such a die hard BSG fan.
An extremely clever device by the show runners.
I thought the first couple of episodes were good, then about 10 in a row that were just a mess indeed. I kept watching because I was listening to Jay and Jack’s FlashForward Cast, which kind of paid off with about 5 good episodes to end the season. Well, the series as it turns out. Reasonable set ups for Season 2 were in place also.
Absolutely. The seasons they had were fairly short.
