Favorite Short-lived Series

What is your favorite series that should have had more than one season, if it was able to make it that far? (Browncoats, y’all have had yer say elsewhen, let the other kids have a turn. And by “y’all” I mean to include me.)

A couple of standout shows with permanent spots on my Box Set shelf are Keen Eddie and Sports Night. Another classic, in my opinion is My So-called Life.

And you?

(If there’s already one of these discussions out there, I’d be interested in an E-Ticket…)

I think Firefly is going to be the clear winner, but bonus points for Keen Eddie. I miss Pippin.

I’ll add Greg the Bunny.

Space Above and Beyond

I agree with Gryper, Space Above and Beyond was a great show that should have gotten more that one season. Also, Defying Gravity, was just starting to get good when they cancelled it

My no. 1 one-season wonder was always My So-Called Life, but now it’s tied with Freaks and Geeks.

And, of course, Firefly.

Welcome, Arph.

Couldn’t agree more!

As this is in the non sci-fi section though I’ll add Nathan Fillion’s excellent “Drive” which was cancelled after only four episodes had aired, yay Fox!

Space: Above and Beyond
Firefly
Virtuality (only a Pilot)

All cancelled by FOX.

Caprica

Thanks SyFy

Defying Gravity

Just when it was getting interesting.

It was a real shame that this show got canned too early.

Dead Last, which was an early prototype of Reaper

Threshold was a series I would have loved to see taken further.

And I really liked The Dresden Files, I never understood why SciFi did not continue the series.

And going way way back I was a fan of Quark, a funny SF series starring Richard Benjamin.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker (70’s) was an interesting series with tremendous potential, but it never got continued. The reimagined series released a few years ago was OK, I never really got into it like the old one which was much quirkier.

Combat Missions, it was a reality show that pitted various Operators of the Spec Ops/SWAT community against each other in force-on-force training missions. It was awesome but 9/11 happened soon after and the people involved in the show, and the contestant pool became way too busy.

So not a network thing but still sucky.

Not exactly Sci -Fi, but a fun show called “Wonderfalls”, again, a 1 season Fox show! Good acting, quirky stories, I thought it was fun. I’ve lent the DVD’s to a number of folks who seemed to dig it too.

Its not SciFi but Dead Like Me was so great and Joan of Arcadia although it got real dark at the end

Well, it officially ran for two seasons, but these were so abbreviated thanks to the writers’ strike that they add up to MAYBE just one: Pushing Daisies. I miss the Pie Maker and Chuck, not to mention Lil’ Gumshoe, wherever she may be…

And, of course, Caprica, just when it was getting its sea legs. UGH!

The Babylon 5 spinoff Crusade was my favorite short lived series.

Life (Not sci fi, and it had 2 seasons, but still)
Journey Man
Studio 60 (not sci fi, but nicely written)

Thanks NBC! d:

Flashforward (I’ll prolly be the only one to list it)

All are within the last 4 years.

The obvious:
Dollhouse
Terminator: SCC
Firefly

Another vote for Crusade and one for Legend of the Rangers (only had a pilot).

How about Mutant X?

Childhood series:
Mighty Orbots (kudos if anyone else remembers this one)
Superfriends (the one with the nuclear guy in it, not the Wonder Twins or Wendy and Marvin. Firestorm. Thanks again Google.)
Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends (I wanted to know whether Angela picked Peter or Bobby dang it!)
Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (cheesy effects, but I liked it, and the girl was cute)
What was the cartoon series where the guy turned into a car when he got too warm? (Turbo Teen, thanks Google)
Automan (Heh. Spawned by the popularity of Tron methinks)
Manimal (Yes, it was bad, but I liked it)
Blue Thunder (Airwolf knock off)
Street Hawk (sort of the motorcycle version of Knight Rider [which I think ended before it’s time too])
Misfits of Science (prolly sucked, but I liked it as a kid and Courtney Cox was cute in it)

Series that outlived itself?
Earth: Final Conflict

Space Above and Beyond (if theres a way to do a 'cast on this…)
Firefly (of course)
T:SCC
Caprica
Life (brilliant two seasons…)

I remember all of those, I LOVED Misfits of Science. I always thought Airwolf was a Blue Thunder knockoff;)

Oh and another good show that suffered from time changes and also a name change in mid season which is probably what helped kill it…

Freaky Links!

I may be the only person who even remembers it.

And one of my favorite spinoff shows that died waaaay too soon-

The Lone Gunmen!!

I was sooo pissed when they literally killed them off on the X Files.

Does Arrested Development still count, even if it had three seasons? (That show should SO still be on!)
