I got asploded last night! First time!
I had just finished off 3 rats in .4 space when a bunch of folks drop in & scramble me. I was already in low armor because it was a real slugfest, so they walloped me pretty quickly. Some dude named ‘Lord Erikk’ or something, can’t remember, blows me up and suddenly I’m in a pod. They keep me scrambled and suddenly I’m getting a ransom demand.
“5 million ISK and we let you live”. I don’t have any implants cuzz I’m a noob, and I tell them. They ended up letting me go, I think they were disgusted at how small fish I was.
Time for a new ship. I think I’ll get another Incursus, Cruisers seem way too expensive for the incremental increase in power. Thoughts?
hmmm, lo-sec is a tough balance. On the one hand you want the firepower to take out the “tougher” rats, on the other, you want the agility to gtfo that a frigate would give you.
So depending on your skills (and your wallet), a decently fit frigate can take out the “wimpy” battleship rats; make sure you kill the smaller stuff 1st though, as these will really be your biggest threat.
Anything larger than a cruiser is just asking for an “insurance payout”.
The key is to warp off to a safe if any kind of combat ship jumps into your system (a hauler or shuttle shouldn’t really worry you, but he could be a scout…), although this can be very time-consuming in a busy system.
As far as your frigate choice:
The Incursus is nice 3 blasters plus a mag-stab (or 2 :D) = some nice damage, not a very good tanker though.
The Tristan (with more slots) is a better tanker: SAR, DCU, resistance plate (ANP or EANM) not armour plates, but does suffer somewhat from the split weapon systems: 2 guns (blasters or rails), 2 missiles (rockets or lights). AB, Web, and maybe a cap-recharger, or a Warp-Disruptor (if you wanna fight players 
).
Anyway, sounds like you’re fairly new still, so keep it cheap, and lose ships by the freighter-load, and learn something every time

Make sure you go to the station with the 3 starter agents after the first tutorial. You’ll get free ships and currency.

Just joined the forums, installed SETI@home (thanks, guys!!!), and I’m listening to #194 at the moment.
On to EVE. In-game, my character names are Meyr (my primary), and Kari Anna (my Industrial alt).
For any of you who are thinking of playing Eve, Meyr is a long-time member of and part-time instructor in Eve University, and has been living in a Wormhole almost continuously since Apocrypha.:eek: Feel free to convo me in-game, and for those of you finding the learning curve a bit steep (reference the cartoon mentioned in one of the prior podcasts about it being a cliff), consider a short stay in Eve Uni.

I was a beta tester for eve-online (cookie please,thank you).I think the beta was ‘open’.I’m getting old,that was a long time ago.The game was very diferent from any MM i had ever played,especially back in the day.I loved it for that,and i’m sure it’s been improved quite a bit since then.Allthough i didn’t sign up after release,i’m glad to see eve has survived all these years.There’s alot of competition.

Oh,i tested WW2 online as well.The eves age reminds me of it.I wonder how it’s doing…it had such great potential (like eve).I’m going to look it up in a bit.Heck,i might as well try eve out again.I’m sure it has a 10day trial or something.

Ack - nothing worse than getting hooked on a game, having the free trial run out, and still be 5 weeks from Christmas. I guess bringing up subscribing to the game while my wife was telling me about the current budget woes probably wasn’t a good idea. I wonder if I can scrape enough change out of the sofa to buy a time code. Other than that, I guess I wait until Santa can grant me another fix!
Never did dip my toes in low sec, but I was ratting in 0.5 space in a Rifter by the time the trial ended. I was getting my butt kicked, but I was loving it!

The next expansion, Dominion, has finally released its trailer, which shows the expansion is ready for deployment on December 1st.
The trailer is really shiny. For the record, this looks a lot like a null-sec alliance wars expansion. Might just get me to try again with PvP after getting a new video card.

Been a EvE Online gamer for a few years now, currently very happy as a dirty pirate (Not the gatecamping kind tho, that truly sucks the life and fun out of the game)
Been around EvE for some time and cant see myself leaving for any other game out there, its scary really, CCP have managed to create more then a game, attended the fanfest in iceland for the second time this year and it was more then awesome, so many geeks drinking beer and laughing it up at the same place while they would have been cursing eachother and doing there worst to kill oneanother in game.
Being involved with the RP side of EvE really opens up the game even more, the backstory for the world we play in is huge and really rich with character and “darkness”
There is no happy fluffy lala land were everyone holds hands and sing together in EvE, everyone is packing heat and looking at eachother with shifty eyes, trying to outsmart the one next to you…and I think a lot like what we as humans are used to sadly, the conflicts and greed is what drives the game and also what makes the fans of EvE stay and play.
I dont know if this have been said, have not been reading everything in this tread but if you are new to EvE and dont have many friends or even if your joining with friends, best place to start is Ivy League / Eve University , a player made corp (guild/clan) that focuses 100% on teaching noobies, I am not sponsored by them in any way shape or form but they are the best at taking care of new players and help/teach/guide you into the deep and fun game that is EVE Online.
Anyways, I will stop writing now as this got rather lengthy, fly safe, but not to safe as that will make my day boring as well as yours

Back on with an ETC courtesy of Santa! I guess I need to take Grim’s advice and look up Eve University! I was tooling around Nakugard looking for rats. I ran into a nest of about 6 in an armor-tanked rifter. I made it through them, but I chewed up all my cap boosters in the process. Check a couple other belts for easier pickings, then on a lark, tried the first belt again. They’d respawned and I started mixing it up before I realized I had 0 Cap Booster left. Got out of there with 51% structure and limped back to Hek. Hopped in my shield-tanked Rifter and headed back (I’m still trying to figure out the best fittings). Obviously, shield tanking ain’t it for these guys as I got out by the skin of my teeth with 15% structure! That’s as close as I’ve come to losing a ship so far (no PvP yet - too chicken!).

Kinda in the same boat with you Boxy. I’ve been struggling along by myself for about 3 weeks. I’m taking Grim’s advice and joining up with Eve University for a while to get my bearings straight. Not sure want I want to do when I “graduate”, but some form of PvP is definately attracting me. Where are you hanging out in-game?
