Eve Online

Well, four days into my demo, I lost my first ship.

Got my first Catalyst blown out from under me during a mission in the Level 1 epic mission arc. Apparently in this mission (and only in this mission), some rogue drones have warp disruptors, so I couldn’t run to recharge my shield and my capacitor.

Took the chance to upgrade my guns from 6 150mms to 8 125 mms, so some good came out of it at least.

On my second try, I toasted that group of drones. Had to warp out once from the last “room” in that mission because I was fighting a cruiser drone with a few frigate drones as support.

Have you done the tutorial missions? I ran through them awhile ago and made close to 18 million isk from them. And, you can repeat them because each race has three starting points which you can start from. So that’s about 54 million plus ships, implants, skill books, and random loot.

Epic missions should be done after you get a few skills under your belt preferably to level 3 or 4.

Yeah, I did all 3 ten part tutorials, but I didn’t earn that much from them.

After the 10th mission in each of them, they referred me to the starter person for this epic mission arc. This is the “newbie” level 1 arc, and I’m already most of the way through it.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. You can do the 3 ten-part missions again twice more. Basically, 6 ten-part missions (9 total), but they are all the same.

Amarr - Conoban, Pasha and Deepari
Minmatar - Malukker, Hadaugago and Embod
Gallente - Clellion, Couster and Trossere
Caldari - Todaki, Jouvulen and Uitra

Here are the guide for them. If you need help with translation, I’ve included a babelfish link.

Good luck and post again if you have any questions.

Well, I just finished the epic arc. Lost another Catalyst in a mission where I had to take out a battlecruiser, but still finished all 50 missions (with a little help)

Got to say, from the little I know of the backstory, this isn’t a group of NPC ships you’ll see together often (at least unless they’re blowing the hell out of each other.

Grats! Hopefully the rewards covered your losses. I’d choose a cruiser over a Catalyst. Destroyers are basically only good as salvagers and frigate killers.

Considering that each mission had a base reward ranging from 100k to 250k ISK, I’d say my losses were more than covered.

I’m training Frigate 4 right now so I can train cruiser.

I have been in eve since beta, if you have any questions or want to get together in game, my in game is CORDEN, and I would love to help you out. BTW, I am new to your site, but love what I have seen, while it remains unblocked at work…

See you in space,

Wolfman

Welcome aboard, WildWolfman. It’s always interesting to see what the tipping point is for people to sign up for the forums

Similar to the above, I’m new to the site. First heard your EVE episode of the poscast (this also lead me to the Honor Harrington books, which ARE awsome btw) from the Virgin Worlds site. I never saw anything else from you come up there, so I went lookin’ for ya.

I’ve been playing EVE since early 2008. When I started out, I may have had a bit of an advantage. As I was running a ~7yr old PC and wasn’t willing to even try to run anything even remotely recent on it; all I did when I first heard of EVE in summer 2007 (didn’t even know at the time that EVE started in 2003 ) was read forums (EVE-O, SHC, BattleClinic, EVE-Pirate, EVE-Files (lotsa videos), YouTube…): posts on ships, missions, ratting, exploration, economy, strategy and tactics, PVE, PVP, pirating, corp/alliance warfare, guns, drones, missiles, fitting, tanking, mining, production, invention… (ummm have I left anything out…?). Everything I could get my “eyes” on. I was hooked, and I hadn’t played a single minute!

So my start to EVE probably wasn’t typical…

I started my EVE-Life joining EVE University, probably one of the best starts for new players. Maybe not so much anymore that they seem to be under a perpetual state of war by corps looking for some easy kills, but pushing through the game alone can be pretty daunting, and get boring pretty fast, so finding a good group of players, in a good corp, will add ALOT to the experience, moreso if you actually have goals.

Can you believe that I’m hoping EVE sticks around until I retire…

that’s in 20yrs at soonest :D!!

Welcome aboard, Adam. Damn, EVE is turning out to be a great de-lurking thread.

You know, this is going to sound very dumb of me, but despite my three years playing, I have yet to figure out how to embark on an epic mission arc. Any pointers?

There are other arcs now, but that was the first. Google is your friend.

Gah!! Ya beat me to it, but here’s the EVE-Wiki for Epic Arcs

lol, I am actually loading up my orca to move my rigged ships and supplies so I can run all these arcs, should be a blast

Is there a way to transfer stuff from one character on an account to another? I think that once I get moved, I’ll upgrade to a paid account but I want to make a more focused character when I do.

You an make a contract, but you need a paid account to make it. Or, you can ask a corpmate you trust.

EVE Fanfest presentation. 1 hr 41 minutes long.

Check out other fanfest videos on CCP’s Youtube channel:

The Alliance tournament videos are there as well.

That’s awesome, 'cart! I watched some of the alliance tournament in real-time, but it’ll be fun to go catch up.

How’d the DUST presentation go?

I’ve only watched the 101 minute presentation so far. I’m watching the 51 minute CCP panel now. I’m personally not into Dust since I don’t own a console or heavily into FPS, but the 101 minute presentation made Dust look pretty cool. There was live game play (planetary flight!). There’s also an updated Dust trailer. Looks like the old one, but the graphics are improved if you can believe that.
